  1. Been to both the Rock and Roll HOF and the Football HOF, was not impressed with either.

Baseball Hall of Fame is the best bar none!

I would like to see the RnR HOF. I've been to Canton, and enjoyed it ... worth the trip. I hope they still have Y.A. Tittle's shoulder pads on display...looked like two pieces of cardboard tied together!

Agree on the bolded. And to add to that comment (not to hijack the thread), the Cincinnati Reds Hall of Fame and Museum is every bit the equal to Cooperstown. Cooperstown itself is a unique experience, and the fact that the Hall/Museum encompasses all of Baseball separates it, but the Reds hit it out of the park (pun intended).

  2. Touché. :lol2:

I have my doubts as to how much MLS teams care about the Open Cup until the final few rounds, but it's impressive that someone from Div 2 is still around.

It's not a tournament set up for the lower divisions to succeed, with the schedule and format really favoring the MLS teams with their massive reserve rosters. It would be hilarious if a Div 2 squad won it.

But honestly, they're in the Open Cup quarterfinals. Quit dropping points at home to Orlando City B.

Recent form at Home has been much better than earlier in the season.

If anything, Cup success has probably hurt them when it comes to USL competition. I doubt we would have seen last nights lineup had they not been playing 3 games per week.

  3. Cleveland Municipal Stadium, 1985.

During the height of the Dawg Pound, I was there for a Raider game. At halftime, me and a few thousand extremely intoxicated fans head to the restroom under the stands. As is typical at a football game, halftime crowds are quite large. I get in line, 6-8 abreast, a good 25 patrons deep. When I get near the end of the line, I realize everyone in all 6-8 lines are relieving themselves against a cinder block wall, with one drain in the floor!!! So, when in Rome, ......

  4. That's a pretty solid take. Sums up what I like about the Open Cup and why I like where American professional soccer is heading.

The key is to be able to maintain the enthusiasm when MLS isn't interested or says no.

St. Louis voters just rejected MLS' demands and they're one of the country's few storied soccer towns. MLS isn't coming without a new stadium and they won't pay for it. What happens now will be interesting to watch.

FCC, thanks to its owner's relationship with UC, has a great stadium situation. I'd argue one of the best in the country.

Why shouldn't that be good enough?

Congrats to the FCC supporters out there. If they get past Miami next round, I might even find it in me to pull for them in the semifinals.

I've been to many FCC matches, and wholeheartedly agree with the bolded. No new stadium will be able to come close to the atmosphere currently at Nippert and the Clifton community.

A friend joined me for the Fire game ... one of those guys who "doesn't understand" soccer ... and said it was one of the best sporting events he ever attended. The Match was that compelling.

FCC has built a solid case around its' MLS candidacy. It seems the only roadblock is the stadium. Right now, there is zero appetite in Hamilton County for public money for stadium. That leaves Newport, unless ownership can somehow twist MLS' arm regarding Nippert. Let's hope that comes to fruition.

  5. I dont think UL fans should totally jump ship , but there have been a sizeable number who , from the get go , said the story was a hoax , then said nothing would come of it , then said it was just overzealous UK fans making stuff up , and the excuses continued to roll , now its " appeal appeal appeal" and the whole group of them look so bad it isnt even comical , its just sad . Yes support your school but take some ownership on what a hot mess of garbage the mens hoops is , and what a shell of a person Rick Pitino has became . If it happened at UK , I'd be saying my fandom is on hold until the head coach is fired .

The problem with that statement, is the person who would do the firing is Jurich. And Jurich has already proven he's willing to "look the other way" (with Pitino's first indiscretion, then the Petrino hiring). And the university President is willing to "look the other way" regarding Jurich, because of the money machine he's turned the athletic department into.

Jurich is is the root of the problem. He, as well as Pitino, would have lost their jobs at any other university a year ago. Both should be canned, and the university should start anew.

  6. It's my understanding that there is a coin flip to see who would have home field for FCC's next game? After last night, I've never wanted a positive result in my favor of any other coin flip.

What a great time last night. Besides @theguru, anyone else in attendance? What did you think of the environment. Sure seemed crazy!

I was there, as well as the LouCity game. Amazing there was +30K for a professional soccer game on a weeknight.

Surprisingly, the energy was different with 6K at the LC match. That match there was an "if we win this we get the MLS team from up the road" excitement that was really cool. Last night's atmosphere was a "nervous" energy. A "... can we compete GET IT OUTTA THERE" kind of energy. When Djibi's header hit the back of the net, the place exploded. Bedlam.

I've been to several games the last two years, and always have a great time. If you've never been, you should check it out. You won't be disappointed.

  7. I've been to Ohio many times and while it's awful, I don't know that I'd call it hell...

In reference to a religious billboard on I71 linking the cities that's been there forever. That, and Cincinnati's subtle dig at Columbus and their (now eroding) inroads to the Queeen City.

  8. Depends on how into this thing the Crew are. Most MLS teams play severely weakened sides full of reserve players until the later rounds when only other MLS teams are left. However, with this being Cincinnati, a franchise attempting to move to MLS right in their backyard (which I'd assume they'd prefer never happen), the front office might have different ideas about how seriously they'd like the coach to take this one.

In the end, I think the Crew will just edge them out, 2-1.

Inaugural "Hell Is Real Derby". Can't wait!

  9. I've been a Magic fan since I saw him in person as a freshman in the 1978 Midwest Regional at UD Arena.

I was that guy, who grew up a Celtics fan, but "had to choose" in the early '80s, and went with the Lakers because of Magic. As great as he was, I had forgotten those brutal possessions in '84 .... selective memory, I guess. Painful. If that occurred in this era, he would have been crucified.

  10. I am going to bring the hot take guy. But can you be the best player on the planet when your team got get beat in 5. I know the triple double but still was the tourch passed. Hot take in the moment but man did Durant look awesome.

With all due respect to KD and LBJ, that's just a dumb stance. If KD is not on the Warriors, Cleveland wins that series.

KD could not put a team on his back and win a championship, so he went to that team he couldn't overcome. Fantastic, awesome player, but he was able to do what he did because of the talent he teamed up with. LBJ is still the King. justsayin

I love the movie, Field of Dreams to the point that one year on our family vacation we visited the movie site and I have to say, this book (ok I am listening to the Audiobook) is much, much better than the movie. So much more in this book than the movie told you about, so if you like of loved the movie, read the book and you will thank me latter.

I've read it, and would agree. Great summer read.

  12. Just pulled up this thread and can't believe what I'm reading. There is NO POSSIBLE WAY that game was a tank job by the Warriors. Um ... did you watch that game? CLE hit 24 threes. Let's not forget ... in the regular season, CLE shot 38.4% from three, better than what GS shot (38.3%).

Bottom line, CLE shot horrible first two games, choked away game 3, and played great with backs against the wall. Should be a 2-2 series.

NO POSSIBLE WAY Warriors laid down in that game. None.
