Pitching has to be developed but it also has to have some talent and ability....everyone is not a pitcher.

Montgomery County baseball is not mediocre. Coach Combs total record(including his record at Montgomery)is not mediocre. 10th region baseball is not mediocre. What is your record????

The region has to change if the district changes! Fleming County and Estill are not in the 10th region now. From 1998-2006 Montgomery County advanced 3 times(3 times in 9 years). With rearrangement of the regions, they advanced to the region only once from 2007-2012 but was beat by the team I believe won that year. Jon Kirby was very talented but I do not believe he played for a division one school or was recruited by all the major league teams Mullins was. To have 9 major league scouts standing there watching the opposing pitcher is a little intimidating to say the least.

Yes it does because Estill only advanced in 2 times the rest was GRC and Montgomery...never had to deal with Bourbon and 96 mile an hour fastball!!! You need to look at the record. No comparison!

From 1998-2001 Montgomery Co was in the district with GRC, Estill, and Millersburg Academy. Basically a 3 team district. Then, from 2002-2005 there were only 3 teams with Millersburg Acad. out. a little easier to get to region without as tough competition. In 2006, Paris and Bourbon came into district and Montgomery Co did not advance that year. Combs first yr 2007, got beat by GRC in championship game of district and advanced to region. GRC won region that year. 2008-2010 were all close games. 2011 got beat by GRC by 1 run and they one region again that year. 2012 got beat in extra inning by GRC by 1. Quit a different scenerio!

Apples and oranges! Two totally separate districts and regions. There is no way you can compare the 40th district to the 55th...they only have 3 teams. Look at the schedules played also. I believe Montgomery Co played Wolfe in recent years.

Well Big Kat I do not know who your kid is but the ones that played and I spoke to said they never were there after 9 for practice unless they started late or working on field. Never practiced for 6 hours and never had two a days like some other sports at the school. School is not out until 3:30, practice begins around 4 and ended around 7:30. From what I hear was very structured with stations to move through to work on fundamentals everyday. Anyway, would not matter, some parents would say too much practice, some not enough. On the other statement related to the kids that quit baseball, that is their choice. It would be great if they could continue to play all sports throughout their high school career but a lot comes down to the child preference because of sports going year round. If their in basketball, soccer, or football it is hard to compete at the next level unless you begin to"specialize" in one sport in high school. It is very competitive. Yes, it is a shame they did not choose baseball but that was not the coaches fault.

Talked to some of the players BK and none of them said they practiced six hours a day. So, I do not know where that came from but anyway this thread is about the future right? Kevin Lee ' s team had Half the kids from other counties...that is why it was so good...when you can pick the best of the best. Kind of like the team that the Thomas kid is playing on now. All the kids have the choice to try out????

Could be...what do you think? I think she will have a big say in where her boys play and I know this has been very upset over the whole incident.

Sorry...78-65 in past 5 yrs..last yr was 23-13 and was not the weakest schedule. Past two years lost in district in extra inning to Clark by 1 run. Last year Clark went on to win Region. Harrison will not schedule...not Combs..will not come here. Most Lexington teams will not travel here either. Want MC to come to them but too far to travel to MC. As far as 14th Region...I am sure Powell who lost to the state champs in extra innings this year(who we beat 2 x) does not think they are weak. I am all for MC having a great next year but when I say people in charge..I am talking about parents and administration. Tackett like Combs will only have those kids for 2-3 hours a day...when they get home and mommy and daddy undo everything that the coach tries to do...MC will never win a district there is no I in team!

KHSAA does not have the complete schedule or game results listed for Combs. School had it...85-87 with 78-6

Well...someone high up in the Montgomery Co system has no idea what decisions is made within the Combs household and when I say boss I mean who runs the house! There are still alot of baseball jobs open and those boys are baseball players too. They will go where their dad coaches. It is simple math. What brought them to Montgomery County will be what makes them leave.

Combs leaving had nothing to do with wins or losses. I believe it was a winning season every season except the first with over 500 each. There are not many coaches in the state that has his record. Nothing against Hackett, he just has no experience and he is walking into a mess that was made by the people that are still in charge.

Combs' brothers will be going wherever their dad goes....that came from the boss!
