Calloway County suffered an embarassing loss to Marshall County and Lone Oak rebounded nicely against county rival Reidland. So who wins?

Reidland travels to Lone Oak for the final meeting between these schools before next year's consolidation. Reidland began the season with three wins (2 over Fulton County, and 1 over their other county rival Heath), but were beaten this past week soundly by Lake County (TN), 54-14. A win over the Flash would give Reidland the unofficial crown of 2012 McCracken County champions. Under the leadership of freshman QB Zyaire Hughes, Lone Oak has blown out two opponents (Hopkinsville and Marshall County) and lost a heartbreaker to #7 5A Christian County, 42-41. Hughes has posted some eye-opening numbers since taking the helm. Hughes had seven rushes for 101 yards and two scores and also threw for 3 tds against Marshall County and he was 20 for 28, 340 yards, 2 tds against Christian County. Could a QB controversy be looming for the Purple Flash? Stay tuned...

With the injury to Cole Ousley, the Lone Oak offense has transitioned to more run oriented. Zyaire Hughes is nimble and a serious threat to run unlike Ousley. IMO, Hughes has a much quicker release throwing and a little more zip on the ball as well. Hughes struggles a bit on throwing the deep ball, but that seems to stem from lack of QB reps during summer practice. Coach Jack Haskins made the statement to the local paper last night that Hughes knows about 40 percent of the offense which is about on par with Ousley's progression two years ago. Against Marshall, Hughes was 11 for 18, 118 yards passing, 2 tds and 1 int. He also ran 7 times for 102, 2 tds. Running back D’juan Sherrill ran 16 times for 168 yards, 1 td and Sherrill was ill on the sideline for a few plays on the first offensive series. For the game, Lone Oak was 29 for 301 yards rushing and had 419 total offensive yards. Marshall County missed six starters, four on defense due to the flu bug and had a difficult time on offense. The Marshals ran 32 times for 165 yards (57 yards came on one run early in the first quarter) and were 1 for 10, 8 yards passing, 2 interceptions. Once Ousley returns, Lone Oak could prove a difficult opponent later in the season and playoffs with two experienced quarterbacks that bring different skill sets to the field.
