All A Classic - Getting Away From It's Roots?
Guys the All-A was started by Stan Steidel of Dayton High school in NKY. He thought there should be some sort of tournament for small school teams that never get invited to tourneys like the AIT or LIT. The first few years the format changed a few times but it was basically small NKY teams and some invited small schools from downstate. That format was fun but really started getting expensive and did not produce a true small school champion because it depended on who was invited. The dream was expanded in the early 90s to a format that resembled the Sweet 16. Each region would hold a regional tournament and send a champion onward (Boys only at first.) In order for each region to have enough teams to have a tournament that could sustain itself the size of enrollment was established at a number that would allow more than the Class 1A football size schools to participate. I do not think you will see any kind reduction in the numbers of teams because it will not work financially. In short, eliminate the larger schools from the All-A and it all falls apart and then you have the whole basketball classification problem to deal with.

All A Classic - Getting Away From It's Roots?
When they named it the All-A Classic they didn't name it the All-Class 1A in Football Classic. So yes a lot more teams are eligible than if the schools were divided into 4 classes with an equal number of teams in each class. So yes ever since it went state-wide it has kind of gotten away from its roots which was to have a tourney for teams that had little hope of winning their region and basically no chance of winning the Sweet 16. But it comes down to $$$ and there would not be an All-A anything if you took the larger schools out. Remember anyone can start their own tourney. You can start the Bluegrass All- Medium Classic and invite teams not in the All-A and not named Trinity or St. X or Male. Hold it in January and play it at Memorial Col. in Lexington. Maybe the semis would come down to Mason Co. versus Lexcath and Highlands versus Eastern. Sound like fun?

Jordan Nevels to Highlands?
   I vote for #2. I think they like to sled ride together in the Guru's backyard and have a hot cocoa around the fire afterward.

Why is X yelling in all caps? Why is Jason oops I mean the Guru off the subject of the thread?

Jordan Nevels to Highlands?
Ouch bad example about the Christian S. thing as someone will point out that Boone Co. was team #3 and Highlands was team #2 and Bellevue was team #1. Anyway kids transfer all the time. I would dare to say, without any stats other than what I can recall, that it is much more common for a marginal athlete that will not see playing time at Big-time school to transfer to Small-time school and become a starter for them. Sometimes this transfer could be done for athletics alone, sometimes it is partially due to athletics, sometimes it has nothing to do with athletics. However, I could cite numerous examples of this. I cannot think of many where great star athlete transfered from Small-time school to Big-time school to be a bigger star.

How do you rate the state?
In the 2000s. 1. Louisville: But mainly because Trinity and Male are the top 2 in the state. 2. Central Kentucky: Again their best is better than any one else below. 3. NKY, Northern KY: Depth at 1A and 3A levels and improving 4A. 4. Eastern Kentucky: Good 2A and 3A teams and a little depth there. Hurtin' in 1A and 4A. 5. Western Kentucky: Just not consistant enough in all classes and depth is suspect. Quick who jumps to mind in 1A after Mayfield? Some good, not great teams. 6. Lexington: Best team (arguably) can't win a region. No 4A threat to Louisville. Not depth much in 2A and 1A.

Dixie 63 Beechwood 52
I don't think a jump into Division II would be the way to go right now for Beechwood. Look at the schedules for St. Henry, Newcath, and Holy Cross and find win-able games for Beechwood. There aren't many if any. A couple of 3-20 seasons could really mean problems. Going independant might be a killer too. The best scenario would be to become a dominant team in Division III and then make a move. Of course that isn't easy either.

The NKAC Division III problem is a Catch-22 for Beechwood and the other Division III schools in NKY. Yes, to improve you do not want to be "locked into" 2 games against each team. However, if that stipulation were lifted good luck filling out the schedule. You won't find many of the Division I or Division II teams willing to play Division III teams. They won't want to give up quality games against each other or down-state teams to win by 15 in a bad year and 30 in a good year. So get ready to travel a lot to find quality games in which you can improve. Plus take a big hit money-wise at the gate. Since the All-A expanded into a state-wide tourney a NKAC Division III has not won the 9th region All-A much less the 9th region. Is that because of the schedule? Or is it because with no classification in KY for the Sweet 16 it is hard to establish a sucessful program at a small Class A school?

All I can say is that the correct answer to a certain Bonus question in the Snappy state championship games contest was 247 pounds. Now I would say anything less than that number would entitle me the right to have George Clooney playing me.

You can sing that and star in the video. It is going to be the first single from the Conjunction Boys movie soundtrack.

True story: George and I were classmates at NKU in Dr. O'Keefe's Political Science class and we both hated it ......and now for the rest of the story... A group of us had that class as our first class and there was no class in the room before us. George would get there a few minutes early and about 5 of us would sit around and talk. One time he mentioned that his dad Nick wanted him to come to Los Angeles to live. (Nick was doing the nightly news on KNBC in LA then.) We were like, "Dude, why wouldn't you go? It is like 10 degrees outside." He said he didn't want to give up living alone in his aunt's huge house (Rosemary's) because he can come and go as he pleases since she was on the road so much. If he moved to LA he would have to move back in with his mom and dad and that wouldn't be cool. Anyway everyone kind of said, "But it is still LA!" He said his dad thought he could get him some auditions and he could work at the news station too. He left for LA after that semester and the next time I saw him he was on "The Facts of Life" TV show.

New Movie based on Bluegrasspreps.com
That's right this just in....... ESPN will be presenting a new movie based on Bluegrasspreps.com very soon. It is based on the story of a dominating GURU who loaded up a bus with 120 Moderators and took them to the library for what they thought was a little vacation before starting a website. Only 30 survived that torture trip. Once they got to their destination it was two weeks of constant writing, editing, sentence structure, and moderating. They became known as: THE CONJUNCTION BOYS Conditions were cruel that November of 2000 when the GURU decided that only a Championship website would do. We all thought we wuz taking a nice trip to the library but when we got there it was a chilly 68 degrees. The first thing the GURU said was, "Clear off these tables and desks. We need a place to practice." Many of us suffered Carpel Tunnel Syndrome early on what with the constant writing. The docs tried to send us off to the hospital but all the GURU would say is, "I need my Moderators to practice". Once I heard this heated exchange 'tween Birdsfan and the GURU after a tough editing session. "You dang near killed my friend!" Birdsfan exclaimed. All the GURU could say was, "He ain't quittin". After two weeks we Moderators knew that GURU was the real thang and we wuz gonna have a Championship website. The GURU said, "You boys that made it through, you all are Moderators!" THE CONJUNCTION BOYS A BluegrassPreps.com production in co-operation with ESPN. Starring...John Goodman as the Guru with George Clooney as password, Brad Pitt as Birdsfan, Martin Sheen as 72birdman, Hulk Hogan as nWo, Sly Stallone as formerkywrestler, David Keith as buckmann41, Tom Hanks as Oldbird, special guest appreance by Lou Holtz as National Scouting Report, and featuring Bill Gates as swamprat.
