  1. You might be surprised how good he could have been had he played RB all three years that he started. As it was, he only played about 2/3 of his Sr. year at the position and had some pretty good #'s in a very balanced attack that did not rely on the run like that of the offense that Miles Simpson played. Alot of ways to look at it. AC is apparently good enough of an athlete to be getting playing time at ND. Simpson may never see the field at UK. He may be getting recruited over as we speak. Hope not though, as I think he will be a good college RB.

I am not talking about AC. He is definately in the same category as Simpson. I am talking about Kramer. Also, after talking to UK coaches this past weekend, Simpson is moving to safety like many thought he would prior to signing. They feel like he could be a likely starter next season at that position.

  2. We will be good. Should be very good. I am unsure if we will be 2008-2010 good but like you said, we'll find out one way or another. I expect us to be that good but if we aren't I'll still display the pride you all are accustomed to seeing. I'll be surprised if we aren't that good. I am looking forward to seeing if Highlands is as good as proclaimed. I have stated and still believe we would beat you in 2010 and 2009. Of course I believe we win in 2011 as well. We shall see.

I have not dog in the fight for either team. However, it was very noticable this year watching both teams play that Highlands had far superior team speed over Boyle. IMO, it will be a long night for Boyle playing Highlands early in the season.

  3. I think you need to check your facts, Larry.

Only two kids on this years' state title team didn't play in the FTJRFL.

They are as home grown as they come.

Also, Highlands is a public school so what are you talking about as far as tuition goes? You also failed to mention that Highlands loses a lot of kids to Newcath. Don't make it sound like they benefit from a kid here and there moving in to the area because my guess would be that 35% of Ft. Thomas kids go to Newcath as well. I grew up on West Villa in Ft. Thomas with a Newcath kid living right across the street from me. (Jack Gruenschlager)

AS to the comment of them playing 6A, you do realize they have the numbers of a middle of the pack 3A team, right? They won one and lost one against a 6A semi finalist that gave Trinity their best game of the year, inside KY. How you can say Highlands' run isn't impressive seems like a sour grape, IMO. Playing up two classes and they go undefeated over 4 years in that class. What else do you want?

Do you believe what you are saying. Having any kid that doesn't come from your town is a huge advantage. Also, Highlands loses no one to NCC that isn't from a Newcath family. However, I know plenty of schools that have lost kids to Highlands through the years from Kenton, Campbell, and Boone county. Also, they even had a couple of kids from across the river in one class a few years ago. As far as being a public, they are an independent. That means they can choose to accept anyone from out of district and are also able to set their tuition according to what they want with help from local base. Therefore, they have an advantage over privates who have to keep tuition set high enough to operate due to a lack of a local tax base. Their run being impressive is them taking advantage of their situation, both in being able to get athletes, and being able to set work standards high due to their community tradition. However, they also have a lack of state competition in 5A. Overall, 5A has been weak since the six class system started. Who is the 5A state champion not from NKY? You also can't talk out of both sides of your mouth. Either you think they are the best program in the state, or you think they have been impressive with their lack of draw and numbers. Which is it?

  4. Highlands has dominated that rivalry over the past few years. Outside of this past season when Highlands beat them 27-20, it hasn't been close. That's why a lot of fans, some Covcath fans included, would be surprised if the Colonels knocked off the Birds.

Highlands is in the middle of a dynasty right now that may never be seen again in Ky fooball history. If they live up to the hype this coming season and win #21, making it 5 in a row, they will tie the consecutive record for state titles, set by your Rebels. What makes Highlands' run so impressive though is that they've done this while playing up in class.

I don't think it is as impressive as you say it is that they have accomplished this while playing up in class. We all know that Highlands has a much lower tuition than private schools. We also know that while their numbers are not that high, they have a very select football teams with players that are not all living or from Ft. Thomas. It is not only numbers, but the specific quality athlete that your institution can attract and allow to attend. It would have been extremely impressive if they would have played up to 6A.

  5. I still don't understand why we need to play Ryle if we are playing Highlands. I thought Highlands was better than Ryle.

Other than a Boyle victory is there anything Boyle can do to earn any respect from Highlands? I expect us to win. I expect us to win every game but if you guys are returning 9 overall starters and we are only returning 8 overall starters then you guys obviously have a HUGE upper hand in this game. If we lose by less than 14 points will we have earned your respect? You guys are treating us like Covington Catholic like we I've never beaten you before. We are 2-2 against you guys. We have beaten you for a State Championship before and won State Championships with you in our class. Do you guys really believe you would have beaten us by 3+ tds this year or last year? If not then why should you guys automatically become 3 tds better than us? We aren't losing as much as you want to believe we are. Maybe it's just weird for me being the underdog and getting so blatantly disrespected but we have beaten you before and we'll beat you again.

Covington Catholic has beaten them many times as well.

  6. You perceive this as a problem. The Kentucky school system does not and it is allowed. Therefore you have a qualified student, who should be given every right of every other qualified student.

Actually, the Kentucky school system has nothing to do with it. The KHSAA has made no change due to the fact that they don't want to upset constituants of certain state politicians, not because the group as a whole doesn't see this as a problem. It ceases to become KENTUCKY competition if someone is competing in it that does not live in Kentucky.

  7. Now let's go over Boyle Co's schedule again:

    Johnson Central- Legit

Danville- Gave up 61 points to a team that Newcath beat like a drum 42-0 in the state finals.

Corbin- Again, beat like a drum 42-0 by Newcath in the 2A state playoffs. What was the score of the Boyle-Corbin game again? (BTW, Highlands was a better team than Newcath)

Lafayette- Finished 7-6...Lost to 6-5 Tates Creek and 3A Central, but you want to thump your chest about them being on the schedule? :idunno:

Christian Co- Same team that Boyle gave up 33 to, Highlands smoked 50-0 in the finals. The same Bowling Green and John Hardin teams that you speak of, Highlands has had no problem with in the state title game the past few years.

As far as the 9 having winning records, outside of Johnson Central, none of those teams really played anyone other than Lexcath....oh yea, the same Lexcath team that lost to Covcath 54-21.

The Boyle 4A district indeed had a better showing in the playoffs than the nky 4A district. NKY 4A wasn't very good this year, outside of Holmes. It took a phantom "holding" call however for West Jessamine to beat Holmes in that first round. I spoke with an official at the Ryle/Trinity game and he said himself that after reviewing the film several times, the crew out of Eastern KY definetly wasn't a playoff caliber crew and that hold call was hogwash. It is what it is though.

As far as Boyle/Ryle...I believe Coach Warner tried getting a game with Boyle next year, with a LESS talented team and French said na, I'm good. Oh and go to google maps...geographically Ryle is MUCH closer to Boyle Co than Highlands is. (Ryle to Boyle: 114 miles ...Highlands to Boyle: 132 miles).

I know that schedules are made up for two years. My point is, that Boyle's schedule isn't as tough as you just tried to make it. And their scheduling has worked the past two years...largely in part because they weren't in the same class as Highlands. :sssh::thumb:

I don't jump on your bandwagon very often, but these are all good points.

  8. 1. Besides Highlands and Campbell, what other schools are in the county?

    2. Does Campbell County have the same limitations as Boone County regarding out of district students?

Brossart, Highlands, Newport Catholic, Newport, Bellevue, and Dayton. No they don't have the same limitations, but they don't have very many tuition students.

  9. That's the first I've heard of that.

As to next year's schedule here's what I know:

    Allen County-Scottsville

    John Hardin

    Highlands

    Danville (Crosstown Rival)

Christian County (I believe that one is confirmed and renewed I think)

(4 District games that are set: Marion, Taylor, Lex Cath, Mercer)

As to why, why should they? What would they gain by playing Ryle that they don't gain from the rest of the schedule? :idunno:

A game scheduled between two teams who are having trouble filling their schedule. Not to mention, good competition.

  10. I love it Walter. Last thread didn't teach you to look before you leap? :idunno:

Do we have to go over Boyle's 2010 schedule again for you??

    Played and defeate

Johnson Central (you remember them don't you?)

Danville (Class AA semi-finalist if memory serves)

Corbin (Class AA semi-finalist again, if memory serves)

    Lafayette (Class 6A Regionals)

Christian County (Class 5A Finalist who got smoked by HHS but did defeat Bowling Green, Warren Central & John Hardin along the way)

Out of 10 Regular Season games, 9 had winning records.

As to the District; the Rebs District won every playoff game against outside competition in the playoffs. A lot better performance than the NKY 4A district had. :D

Now as to Ryle. They had an excellent team this year. They only lost to HHS and Trinity. Solid schedule too. They played Trinity closer than anyone did in the playoffs.

As to Boyle's scheduling: Everyone's schedule was made over 2 years ago, you do know that don't you? Why should Boyle "step up" (your words) and schedule Ryle? They aren't geographically close to them like HHS is. They aren't class rivals. It makes no sense. Why didn't Ryle call Boyle? Because there was nothing to gain by either. Everyone's schedule is designed to get them ready for a run at a title. Looks like Boyle's has worked these last 2 years rather well.

Ryle did call Boyle. As for a run at a title, the formula for a title will be different with having to beat Highlands. The point about the Ryle game, as someone bought up earlier, is that Boyle is having trouble scheduling games. Why wouldn't they play Ryle who is also having trouble scheduling.

  11. I will say again, if a student is qualified to go to a school, enrolled in the school, attending classes at the school, and meets all academic and behavioral standards of the school, he or she should be allowed to participate in the extracurricular activities of the school.

Some time in Kentucky we screwed up when we let the KHSAA lead the schools instead of the schools leading the KHSAA.

Believe me, if the schools were leading the KHSAA there would be no out of state attendance, let alone athletic participation. They are not just extracurricular activities of the school, they are part of a state institution. As I have stated, they fixed this problem in Ohio years ago.

  12. I couldn't tell you nor will I speculate. If you want to think we are scared then go ahead but it doesn't make sense to schedule Highlands in week 0 and run from Ryle in week 3 or 4.

I am asking a qestion. They were asked to get a game. They declined. Both schools have the same two weeks open and could schedule either week, so why would they decline. It would be a good game for both teams.

  13. Thats just great............deny a student, who is qualified to attend a school and meets all academic standards, the equality of extracurricular activities.

Perhaps it should be taken a step further. Perhaps you should have to live ina state to go to high school in that state. In answer to your question or statement, yes it is great. I think you should have to be a resident of a state to participate in that state's athletic competition. Call me crazy!

  14. Highlands also wasn't fully healthy for that second game against Ryle when they lost by 2 (on missed 2 pt conversion tries). It took Ryle's best team in school history to beat Highlands by a missed 2 pt conversion. Nicely done, sir.

And fwiw, had your team stepped up and played a team like Ryle, we wouldn't be talking about a 30 game win streak heading in to next year. :sssh:

What does Ryle have to do with Boyle Co/Highlands 2011? Nothing.

20 state titles allows you to be just "a little" arrogant.

Highlands had everyone who played in the finals, at least at the start of the game. Also, Ryle was missing four players who had started at the begining of the season. Ryle's best ball carrier didn't play for 19 minutes of the game due to a deep thy bruise. I think they found a way to overcome that adversity. Highlands was beaten by a team who was better up front that night.

  15. They had a player tapping his helmet to come out the first time the oppenent put together three first downs. Stances were poor. They lined up incorrectly several times. They lost at the point of attack and bounced it several times during the game, something that you won't do against a good football team with sucess. They also had a celebration penalty and multiple offsides. IMO, they didn't look like a very good football team.[/QUOTE]

To me they looked like the best 3 A team in the state. On Saturday, that was good enough.

Hence being a product of six classes.
