  1. If Jude ends up being the All-Time leader in rushing yards for KY and has two 3,000 + yard rushing seasons in a row, what justification is there for saying he's not the "best" player in Ky? Please don't get me wrong, I've watched Towles and I believe he is an exceptional athlete. Playing within the system at Highlands doesn't give you the same type of stats that he could have elsewhere but being the ALL-TIME leader in rushing yards for KY has to count for something? I haven't watched Pike so I can't comment on him.

I needed to clarify that I fully understand that JJ has to have another season like last season to make this argument valid. Noone knows for sure if he can do that but if he does then this is my argument.

The justification is simple. Weight, speed, and competition that those numbers are going up against. Mr. Football is supposed to be the best football player in the state. Jude is a great player, but he is not a division one athlete.

  2. I see Lloyd making a real run next year, this will be a different team then this years!! I can only hope that they go outside of the current coaching staff to find a replacement, if they do, I'll go ahead and say it first, they can run the table in 2A in NKY next year! Any word yet on any possible coaches? GO JUGGS

You can't run the table in NKY 2A without getting real dedication in the weight room.

  3. It is however a dead point. It won't happen anyway. He will be told soon enough if hasn't already to knock it off. I asked Chuck Smith once, since you bring up Boyle, what the thought the 2 most important factors were in going on the run. He said coaches in the building was #1 (HC will not do that one), and the other was a good run of kids.

With that said, what will he do about staff...assuming he stays until season start?

Without coaches in the building, parents should be calling for replacements at other positions than head coach.

  4. HAHAHA! This ain't Highlnds, Trinity, or Boyle...you are trying to compare apples to grapes! Those programs have had GREAT talent, PROVEN coaches, and they can do that thing that we are not allowed to mention on here.

They aren't his football players, they are basketball players and now some are baseball players and track athletes. That's my point, his authority runs out after that final game. If they don't play another sport, do what you will, if they play another sport offer them the chance to get better by coming in the morning or weekends. When you try to impose something you CANT enforce you lose all credibility. If he tries to enforce this, the 17 kids he has left will hate it, and he will kill the program. Write it down.

If you look at those progams and what they do as "can't be done here", then you should also include their sucess as "can't be done here." What exactly can Highlands and Boyle do that Henry can't? Is Henry not allowed to accept tuition students? It can be enforced. If the coach so chooses, he doesn't have to allow those players to participate in the sport that don't meet the requirements. Now if the administration chooses to not back his requirements, that is a different story. I would think the parents would be excited about this type of discipline.

  5. I can think of several that are dedicated in that manner. However, i am not at Henry Co., so I am ok with whatever they do but they did match Central pretty well 2 years ago returning 2 kickoffs 80 plus yards for TD's.

We are saying the same thing, however, the dictator approach ain't gonna get it done. They will run him out...fast!

Two years ago, Central didn't win state. Henry has come up fast, but they still have to get better to reach that goal. I always thought that a football coach should be able to tell a football player what he is going to do, not ask him. I don't consider that a dictator approach, I just consider it reality in most good programs. When Bob Beatty, Dale Mueller, or Larry French tell the kids or parents group that something is going to be done a certain way, it is done.

  6. So what then about the schools that are completely dedicated to winnning a state championship in all sports? It SHOULD be left up the the current sport coach to weightlift his kids...not for another coach who is not in the building, in the county, or in the same area code to decide what is best. I AGREE that all sports should lift weights, that is that coaches job. By the way speed is GREAT substitute for strength, I would trade in a few strong kids for some really fast ones!!

Henry Co. doesn't have in school weights, it would take away from their test scores.

I agree. That is why it is called a strength and speed program. Both should be worked on if the program is ran properly. As for speed, you will never be as fast as a team like Central. If you want to have a chance to beat them, it will be done by dominating the trenches and making your team as fast as possible. This won't happen if your kids aren't working on those skills during the winter and spring. I am yet to see a basketball or baseball program in this state dedicate to speed and weight training in the manner required for sucess on a football field.

  7. Of course my basketball example is the same. Basketball helps all sports, change of speed, agility, eye hand cord...etc. Hey, if the football team can make it mandatory, then so can all the other sports. And in that county, those kids will choose basketball. My point is the football coach would be HOT if this were allowed. Seems like HC has won lots of games over the past couple years without that policy. TONS of state title hardware has come to many schools without this. Seems more logical to start in school weights. I've been apart of some successful programs and know MANY coaches...most don't do this. Many offer a weight session in the morning for those who CHOOSE to attend that play another sport, work in the afternoons, or have another obligation after school. This dog won't hunt in HC, and you can bet the admin will address it if they haven't already.

I am simply saying that if the program is completely dedicated to winning a football state championship, that dog should hunt. To say basketball helps all other sports is surely in jest. There is no substitute for strength, and competing in another sport shouldn't be an excuse for the lack of it.

  8. Because they aren't in football right now. Let the coach of the current sport do his job with those kids. Again, if I coached one of those kids and they were dragging butt through my practice because they had been up since 5 am to go lift weights we would have a problem. If a kid pulls a muscle or hurts his back or is injured lifting weights and I lose him for a game...it would get ugly. That's why it doesn't cut it. If he makes it voluntary I have no problem, and by KHSAA rule it must be made voluntary. He won't have a leg to stand on if the cuts a kid for not coming to morning weights during another sports season they were involved in.

On the flip side, you think a football coach would be ok with his kids being made to play pick-up basketball at 6am while in season??? Not a single coach I know would go for that.

This also isn't helping his image with admin and other coaches in the building, parents are mad, boosters are mad, admin is not happy, this won't end well.

Perhaps parents, boosters, and administration need to take a look at what programs are doing that are wining championships. It is a common practice. Lifting helps every sport. I don't think your basketball example is the same. Also, there is no KHSAA rule forbiding mandatory lifting. Many districs have that rule, but it doesn't come from the state.

  9. I don't disagree Maroon, but telling kids that play other sports that are currently in-season that they better come or they won't play doesnt cut it on the 3A level. If I were the coach of an in-season sport and another coach was telling my players they had to do things other than what I told them to do, we would get nose-to-nose aweful fast! Besides, who is giong to run these 6am workouts? The new coach who shows up once a month?

I would say with the job situation and the fact that the special ed director had no idea they hired a teacher for a job that doesn't exist and doesn't look like will exist is bad sign. Will this be Ray Graham all over agian???

Why doesn't it cut it? There is nothing wrong with making kids lift in the mornings if they are in another sport. It is what sucessful football teams do.

  10. Correct me if I am wrong but I believe he was the OC at Washington County, Marion County and Lincoln County over the last 3 years. All 3 schools offenses improved when he got there. I could be wrong as I am using memory recollection but I think that is the general belief. I have no ties to Bryan Station but it seems that some of you want to see him fail just to say 'I told you so'. Everyone has to start somewhere and Station is giving him that opportunity. Why not wait and see how he does instead of just saying what he can or can't do. We have no idea what he can or can't do at Station but I wish him well and nothing but success in the future.

OK, He was not the OC at Washington County. The head coach called the offense.

  11. I'll judge this after another two years or so. Lots of people were saying Rich Brooks was the wrong guy for the job too. But he was given time and in time he became successful. Sooo, we shall see.

I disagree in one premace. This is not a new coach coming in and establishing his identity with the players, including an entire new staff. It is a man that is continuing the program that he was already a part of. The season was suspect at best, and the preparation for the bowl game against a team that was in total chaos was terrible.

  12. I'm curious as to who you think Kentucky could have gotten, that was better than Joker. Do you believe a big name coach will come to Lexington and compete with basketball? I personally don't see them getting anything better than what they already had as an OC.

BTW, I believe in promoting from within, and that is essentially what happened to Joker. He deserved a chance at a head coaching position, and I would just as soon have him do it at the school he knows and loves, as opposed to a rival.

Also, Joe B. Hall was promoted when Rupp retired and that worked out pretty well. When Hall retired, UK decided to change direction. How'd that go again?

I think they could have gotten an offensive genious who had done a fine job at Texas Tech.

  13. It better be or it will be even worst than I think it's going to be..Last year was Ryle's make or break for a few years..Jv and frosh were awful this past year. They have no qb, lost the whole line etc etc..

Hopefully the coaching staff will use your expert opinion and analysis when they implement their offense next season.

  14. Yeah Scott County is ducking the team from Union. They scrimmage Trinity every year but they scared to play the team from Union. The team from Union is probably not even going to host a playoff game next year, but teams do not want to play them. Dixie, CC, team from Union, and SK will be the finishing order of the district next year. Tell the coach to call one of the 3 teams from Louisville if he is having trouble filling out his schedule.

In fact Male is offering to pay travel expenses when you play them at home and guarantee a number of tickets sold when they come to your field.

Scott County is looking for 2 games, week 0 and 6, and will pay a large monetary sum if you come to them twice.

Sorry, Male has been contacted and is not interested either. If you think that will be the order of that district next year, you are sadly mistaken.
