  1. I heard today that 35-40 players are expected to be on the football team this season. If so, that’s good for numbers. They graduated 15 players from last season’s team, which was more than I remembered. I believe Nickell will be back at quarterback and on defense and that some of the OL will be back Jimenez will be a big replacement to fill from last season in the backfield and defense too. It’s going to be a younger team for the most part. As I find out more, I’ll post.

  2. And maybe the most beneficial thing of all about this, Dayton could very well do better with retaining students/families who leave and with gaining. People have been buying in Dayton more again and the newer rentals behind the flood wall are gaining people too.

  3. Good picture of Jack Moreland at the groundbreaking, Dayton’s former superintendent from longer ago. Jack Moreland was a BIG part of Dayton during that time, before, and after, as well as for a lot more in Northern Kentucky. Speaking of a neat picture from before, the picture he’s holding is the groundbreaking for Dayton’s current high school. How things have changed since.

The video is actually incorrect when it says the field opened in 1937. Olin W. Davis Field was dedicated on October 26, 1934. Here's a newspaper article from October 27, 1934 about the dedication and football game that took place the evening before.

For a little context, this is what Calpreps says about 2023:

Owensboro Catholic 35 Paducah Tilghman 34
Boyle County 42 Paducah Tilghman 14

    ===================

So if OC does hang with PT that could mean OC is the top 2A team in Kentucky and PT has no chance against Boyle.  Or put another way, you could say the same thing about Tilghman (using Mayfield) from last year.  Mayfield was right there with PT but PT probably didn't have much of a chance against Boyle.  So to come full circle, if Tilghman doesn't mostly dominate against OC in their scrimmage I am not sure Tilghman would have a very good chance of beating Boyle.

    I agree.

So based on the design plan, there does not seem to be a locker room for either team. I assume both teams will prepare/change in the field house?

That’s what I would think unless the school locker rooms are used, which aren’t far away.

Nice project.  Have they considered parking?  Will there be a parking lot?  Was always an issue at the old stadium.

Street parking will be the main source, particularly up 3rd Avenue, 4th Avenue, and maybe 5th Avenue. Parking lot space is small between the high school and elementary school. With everything going where it is, there won’t be capabilities for new parking lots. Also keeping in mind that Greendevil Rd will not be driven on once the project is done. There will also be plenty parking on Berry Avenue by St Bernard Church, behind the fence of the baseball field, and around where the older location of the Dayton Eagles used to be.

  8. Aside from the turf field and plaza, there are plans for two entrances, one on 3rd Avenue and another on Greendevil Drive. They also will be including a field house and fitness center. I believe there’s plans for a little more, which isn’t official outside of what I mentioned.

  9. Regardless of outcome on the game, I believe that it’s awesome that Boyle County is playing St Edward! This is great for Boyle County and the rest of Kentucky as far as high school football fans are concerned. This game will only make Boyle better as the season continues, regardless of outcome. I might have to make a trip north for this game, haven’t been to St Edward in a long time.

  10. Can’t wait for the 2024 football season to get on its way! I believe that Dayton should have reasons to be excited about the season. Last season didn’t finish as strong as the 2022 season, but they still won a playoff game. They return some talent from last year’s team and have some new faces who should contribute fairly well. Once I have more information about this, I’ll share.

As far as the new stadium is concerned, I know that the official groundbreaking being done by the school is scheduled for Friday, 4/29/24. I know that Greendevil Lane will no longer be used once the project is completed to drive on like previously. Once I have better pictures, I’ll upload onto here.

I know that Davis Field gets at least one more season for the one coming. If anyone is interested in catching a game from a neat old stadium, this might be the last one to do so. As I get more information, I’ll post on here.

  11. I think that this was a good decision by UK. Whether things take time or not, this was a good choice in my opinion. It’s about being open to new things and change, which is more important now than ever and will remain a constant. I know different people were hoping for a bigger and more accomplished coach, but they aren’t as about the changes, particularly those who have been out of college basketball.

  12. I’m going to say the 1990’s and 2000-2010. I believe that the nineties were great for the fans and crowds. Everywhere I watched or played was filled full of people. Even though the crowds started declining between 2000-2010, there was a lot seen offensively and other changes that took place. Of course changes have continued since 2010, but the two times I mentioned were my personal favorites.
