From nkyfootball.net
Highlands senior Alex Veneman set a Northern Kentucky record for most
receiving yards in a season during his team's 30-15 win over Ashland Blazer
on Friday in a Class 4A playoff game.
Veneman caught six passes for 107 yards to raise his season total to 1,418
yards. The previous local record for most receiving yards in a season was 1,386 set by Highlands wide receiver Brett Hamblen in 2000.
Veneman also set a local record for most pass receptions in a season with 79. He surpassed Mike Setters of Ryle, who had 77 pass receptions in the 1999 season.
The local record for most touchdown receptions in a season is 27 by Hamblen and the state record is 28. Veneman has caught 20 TD passes this season.

What were his other offers Clyde? He a 4*? Just curious.
Not sure about offers, I do know Ohio, Cincinnati, Miami (OH) and Utah ST had shown interest.

BYU got a very good football player and even better kid!
Congrats Hoge Family!

There's only one back in the state Baker would backup.
Agreed! Not sure why this thread had me so unsettled last night since I think Baker is indeed a talent and I will be rooting for him in a couple of years no matter what position he ends up playing.
Heck he might have gone for more than 250 last night if the Tomcats staff would have listened to their fans yelling "stop trying to run it up the middle"
-
This game will be much closer than the first meeting for sure. I'm curious to see what adjustment the Cov Cath staff will make based on the first game. I expect more of a passing attack from the Colonels downfield.
Should be a great game and atmosphere with emotions running high with possibly playing your last High School football game at stake.
Birds 24-17

Guru - can we edit this thread to 230+ or call the Ashland newspaper and tell them they have the wrong stats?
I say this with great respect for #5, just think outside of 2 runs.........
No shortage of fight, but Tomcats fall - The Independent Online: Sports

So which rb's put up 250+ against highlands in the past. That was the question at hand.
Only one that I have witnessed in the last 4 years was the kid from Elder back in 2012. There may have been others but that is the only one that sticks out.
-
Baker had 250. Was offered and accepted stoops offer for a scholarship as a junior. But I guess you know better?
Kid is a baller no doubt!!!! And from I saw tonight ultra competive and willing to play defense as well (you don't see that a lot these days) I'm a fan! Just saying outside of 2 runs he was contained.
-
Baker was never going to go to Boyd, not sure why that's even a question.
Larkin for LaSalle (Ohio) scores 5 TD's tonight and the coach is praising the O Line in the post game interview. Baker has 4? runs all night for decent positive yardage (2 great long runs) and we start a thread?
O Line made some pretty good blocks tonight on those 2. How bout we talk about them a little?
-
If Baker would have gone to Boyd as alluded to in threads throughout the week does he go for 250 last week? O Line for Ashland was decent sized and played a good game tonight.
-
Doubt most fans predicted it since most said it would be a running clock by the end of the first quarter or first half. Neither happened. No running clock in the second half either.
Did Baker play defense all year or just tonight?
-
Pretty sure most Birds fans expected Baker to break off a couple of good runs and that he did. Kid is quick! Birds offense struggled somewhat, however in typical Highlands fashion someone stepped up (Kendall) great game by #8!!!!
-
Changing my pick on this one with or without the Wagner Twins.
JC's combined record of their opponents is only 38-78, only 2 with winning records (Ashland 6-4 and Belfry 9-2)
I'll take the Colonels by 14.
-
Thoughts?
RB for Ashland looks like an athlete to me from the limited amount of tape I have watched. Birds have their work cut out for them for sure Friday night.
-
Congrats Big Country!!!!
Was curious when I would see this thread after the "official" request for one was made late last week.

I believe someone used a good name in vain...
Didn't a guy named O'Leary lose his job before coaching his first practice because he misled a few folks with a few minor details:thumb:
If indeed this is a one and done, I hope the WC program take the negatives and turn them into positives and do not let such a very small detractor set you backwards.
He'll stick around for more than a year, I'm sure the move for him was more about needing a job than pulling his son from a state contending team with a Top 5 QB in the state just to play for him for one season then bolt. His acceptance speech talks about building a "program" so I'm sure he'll be around.

If QB Wags plays I'll say Cov Cath 35 - JC 28. If Wags does not play flip flop that score.

One and done for Coach Feggin @ WC?
-
Pretty good arm on the QB for BC, not sure why they don't throw the ball more.
Looked like the Birds got out of there injury free so it's on to next week pretty healthy.
RB for BC took a shot in the first offense series of the game and was down for awhile. Prayers out to him that all is ok.

I don't care what side of the fence you're on, that's pretty funny right there.
Hilarious!

This...
Is a true Highlands fan, not someone running their mouth about injuries, weaknesses, fan loyalty, etc...:thumb:
Them be posers...
Morning Sweep!
-
DragonFire - thoughts on the question posed to you in the predictions thread from Purple Nation?
-
What do you think? If Coach Feggins replaces Highland with BG do they use that as motivation? Jensen deciding to move and play with his Dad is a non issue, I think most if not all kids don't blame him for leaving. But let's be honest does he look back and second guess that decision? I mean Highlands does play a high profile schedule with a pretty darn good QB.Why so motivated for tonight? The Feggins video?#crownforcowboy

You trying to insinuate something buddy?
I'm sure he is talking about "fast/athletic" teams, nothing else.

Next question will be does he do mission work before he attends school @ BYU. I see where the QB for BYU that was injured earlier this year was 24. Curious if mission work is an option or mandatory.
