  1. It happened right in front of me and I was 5 rows up. Based on the effort of Venneman to track down that throw and corral it, the referee should have given it to him. One of the best catches I have ever seen in HS football.

As far as the implications it had on the game, I would say it was HUGE. IMO the Birds get that completion and they roll into the endzone for the GW TD. Even the Elder fans who were sitting around me were amazed he hauled that catch in and not once argued it hit the turf.

You must've had money on this one, Ryche......jk In all seriousness, I agree with you. It was the greatest grab I've ever witnessed in high school football next to AC's catch in '08.

  2. The 2 Elder guys standing with us in the same end zone said.....It was a catch!!!....I thought so too. When the Ref awards HHS with the catch, it's game-set-match. HHS would of had to play some good D to keep Elder contained but we will never know....Great game and darn proud of our boys!

What does the kid who caught it say?

  3. Highlands Defense was outstanding imo.

They basically held Elder to 21 pts and the 9 was not on them. They held Shroyer to under 100 yds and not many teams have done that in a while.

They scored an obvious safety to their credit and played basically 30 mins of the game on the wrong side of the 50..Those are facts imo..

Ramsey got his yds passing and Iam ok with that. I wouldnt necessary call out the DB's and say that Ramsey had his way with them. If anyone knows Highlands philosophy regarding pass defense they would understand.

Oh yeah, Jackson Bardo scored two picks in the game.

I would take Highlands alll day long in a game like this if they can pull off what they did on Defense...Just sayin:thumb:

I think a whole bunch of credit needs to go to Elders Defense for making big plays and shutting down Highlands potent offense...

Sweep, What were Ramsey's numbers passing? How many times was he sacked? He could have baked a cake back there. I'm not knocking the defense just telling you what I saw. He threw like a sophomore but the Bluebird DB's made him look like Peyton Manning. Not trying to offend, just is what it is. Birds will still run through 4A without question. I think the Bluebird offense is of Moeller's caliber but the Moe defense is why they won by 21. Highlands D just could not stop them. They left it all on the field last night and gave it their best. Good bunch of kids for sure.

  4. I saw where Moeller went into the pit and dismantled Elder, and St X from the Ville gave Moeller all they wanted. So my question is how good is Elder? Jusy curious.

Elder won the game. Why? Ramsey vs. Bluebird DB's was better than Houliston vs. DB's. Highlands found themselves in a lot of 3rd/4th and long situations compared to Elder who appeared to move effortlessly down the field on the shoulders of Ramsey. Obviously the fumble was the difference and the fact that the Bluebirds looked like a deer caught in the headlights during the 1st qtr. Feggins: offensive player of the game. Wrobleski: defensive player of the game.

  5. And the Birds are 2 and 1 in those games with the backup QB...Just sayin

Maybe Donovan should have faked one last yr and the Birds would be 3-0...LOL

I agree it is a fact but as Spiceman stated the Birds will just go to the next man in line if necessary as we have two dandys in the waiting:thumb:

All I know is last year Donovan got the Mr. Tough Guy award after the Elder game. They abused that kid and he just kept goin' and goin' and goin' and goin'. Elder just doesn't hit like Harrison Co.

  6. Great points, I tell ya if they stop/contain Ramsey, Highlands controls this game.

It appears that there is alot of emotion involved in many of these predictions. Elder fans see it 60/30 and Bluebird fans see it 30/60. Practical fans see it as THEE must see game of the year. The Pit factor may be what tips the scale.

  7. Talking to some Elder guys they seem pretty confident on defense that they will prevent Highlands from long sustainable drives. I don't know if I buy it or not. Chris Schroer is banged up, probably not a big secret, if you look at his last few games they have been not good to say the least, albeit against good teams. I think they plan on using him a lot to see if he can shift the game, if not they go to plan B. A big key to the game might be who can get the early lead. Elder is counting on the tough schedule they've faced and that they will terrorize Houliston all night. I wish the game was in Ft. Thomas, that would give the Birds the edge I think.

Yes, I see Ramsey having a big night running the ball as well as passing. Birds always seem to play off the ball and the Panthers throw a lot of slants and screens for easy 5's. Schroer is good for several yards a carry as well even if banged up. When I saw Holmes getting to Houliston last Friday, I thought, "oh no".
