Put a sign up for Whitley to "turn left for your defeat!" (LOL). Go Birds!
sign reference is a throwback to '08 FB playoffs!

He'd probably look like George Grote did. When is the last time you saw a pick-up hoops game being played in Ft. Thomas? Too many seasons blending together...that is the problem I see. Soccer, FB, Hoops all have blurred into one continual cycle...not to mention baseball, which has REALLY fallen off as a sport for youth. Thus, kids (with parental influence) are "specializing". And I haven't even mentioned the video game/facebook influence.

Congrats to Ryan, Austin, Ty and Drake. Well done Birds. Congrats to the rest of the young men selected.

We have had some discussion around the football program attracting kids from outside of the city. I seem to remember the bball program doing that also. Is that the answer? I think sealteam hit the nail on the head with his mention of Ken Shields. I belive the program needs a Ken Shields type coach. If that's even possible. When I came through, It was Shields Petty and Listerman. That is a HOF coaching staff. Probably will never see the likes of that again.
FINALLY, something I can agree with you on! LOL!

BS was a FOURTH seed in '08. Probably the best 4th seed ever!...but they were barely a .500 team. They definitely have the talent/athletes, they had good coaching (at least THAT night)...but often times the key is DISCIPLINE. Pulled them offsides twice in the final drive by going from their normal 2 pt. stance to snapping down to a 3 pt. stance....got critical first downs and kept the drive alive for the Guidugli to Collinsworth game winner! ( and on to #18). The right coach could really form a powerhouse there.

This game will be much different in March. Congrats to Dixie. Breds will be slow to develop due to being State FB Champs.
-
Maybe the Birds will find another big ole lineman to bash it through the end zone ala Rosenhagen!!
-
I can't even pick the best HIGHLANDS back from the list, much less choose one that includes the likes of Farris, Simpson, et al... :isurrender:
-
Congrats to Austin Abner and to Ryan Hahn! ANOTHER Blue team lineman making the All-Star team...4 years in a row!
-
Maybe some of the kids opted for Hoops?
-
At least depth wasn't an issue...backup mascot was ready to go!

The Birds BARELY beat Central in '07...the REAL "BTE" at HHS. They definitely would be a worthy adversary. They have great athletes and coaching...and a jammin' band, too!

Something that gets a little lost in all of this.
Number of career state titles won by the 2010 state champs:
Mayfield - 8
Newport Cath - 4
Central - 3
Boyle County - 7
Highlands - 20
Trinity - 20
TOTAL - 62
Number of career state titles won by the 2010 runner-ups:
Hazard - 0
Owensboro Catholic - 0
Belfry - 2
Allen County-Scottsville - 0
Christian County - 2
Male - 6
TOTAL - 10
There's something to be said for playing tradition-rich programs in the state finals, especially when many of the players haven't been there before (except Hazard and Christian County)
The SRs at HHS and Trinity have basically 2 extra years HS game experience than the other teams. (4 yrs of 15 games...60 games vs. 40). You can't discount the benefit of extra practice time and games for successful programs. It's similar to the college bowl system benefits. It helps perpetuate the success.

ESPN just had a segment on the Mascot, complete with video. It's one thing to have a losing season...it's another thing to be a national joke. How embarassing for the program. As Sam Wyche once said "you live in Cincinnati, not in Cleveland!"

Hey 2010 Birds...welcome to the club! STATE CHAMPS...you will wear that mantle forever. Doesn't matter who won how many/lost how many y'all won the last game and that's all that matters. You have EARNED your way into a select club and we are glad to have you as members. The march to 21 starts Monday!

Congrats to the NCC Breds! EXCELLENT performance!

This NCC grad is pulling for both teams. Go Birds. Go Breds.
This HHS grad is also rooting for a NKY "daily double" ! Go Birds! Go Breds!

The slime ball used his wife's treatment and recovery from cancer as a cover and blatantly lied to anyone that would listen. You are more than welcome to put me on ignore if you don't like my info...
Wow...wrong side of the bed, today? My remark wasn't a shot at you...it was a comment toward coaches ALL being on the "slimey" side in terms of recruiting and job prospects. How do you know when they're lying? Answer: When their lips are moving! I enjoy your "insider" info..sorry I honked you off!

Did some checking and was told this is a false rumor although Miami has put out feelers to gauge Strong's interest...
Kelly wasn't leaving either!
-
How fortunate for Christian County. They get to face a mediocre Highlands team. But then again, we saw how they did in '08 against "the worst o-line ever".
-
Is Dale Mueller then Jerry Jones?
-
Hwy warrior...once again,,,THANKS for the updates!

Are the Highlands internet radio guys doing the game?

I reckon the 2 NKY State Champs inspired the Bengals to FINALLY play as a team! LOL!
