The difference in the game, to me, was the running ability of HHS QB, Donovan "Moose" McCoy. Lots of nice athletes out there on both sides tonite. The rivalry lives!!!!!

When is game time?
-
Bob catches a lot of grief at times from Highlands folks, but he really is a fine person and gentleman. We've had our disagreements, but they have been few and have always been handled in a respectful manner.
Coach, if you read this site, get well soon and get back on those sidelines. Prayers for your speedy recovery. :thumb:
Well said! Best wishes to Coach!

I hope everyone comes out for this titanic tussle. It will have that "CC-HHS rivalry" feel that the varsity games have been missing for the past few years. I predict a GREAT game and Birds win a nail biter at home by TURNING THE MOOSE LOOSE!! (McCoy). Go Birds!
-
I saw that on the school channel. I wonder why they moved it back.
Is it due to the expanded SR Night festivities? If so, fans get there early to give the Mom and Dads their just "props"!!
-
Since it was a team win, lets add all contributors who were not only major contributors to this game but all games throughout the season. Add McGhee, Rosenhagen,Trapp, Houston, Napier, Hollingsworth, Rouse, Sheehan, Gall and Schultz to the "team win". And least we forget that this jv team stepped it up when Towles was called to varsity duty, but with whom they will join forces again next year.
...and I'm sure there are MORE names you could add to THIS list. Let's just say "Great game Birds"!!!

From what I've heard Coach Campbell is a first class guy!
And a good tactician! One of the few teams that didn't wait until they're blown out to try "trickeration" to keep their team in the game. They came out and punched the HHS defense right in the mouth on a very nice scoring drive. They then tried an onside kick. It didn't work, but the strategy was sound...pull the unexpected when you are decidedly the underdog. Besides, field position is better than having Bardo, Streeter, AC, True, et al run the ball back to the other side of the 50...and you just may retain possession!

O-line..So Fine!! Good to see big games from "Froggy" Seidel and "Moose" McCoy!! 1 MORE TO GO!!!
-
I personally LOVE to see the linemen get some props. But getting to the second level and blocking is EXPECTED from them. If they don't, and the WR's don't sustain engagement downfield, the "glory boys" don't have much for the highlight reels. Fortunately, there have been many, many highlight moments these past few years!!

Noticed the same thing... great play by Garnick. His dad Mike was one heck of an athlete! I am fortunate to work with Mike and I am sure the apple does not fall far from the tree. :thumb:
It's all Momma, Streak..it's all Momma!! LOLOLOLOL!!
-
Bardo at Highlands, Garnick at CovCath, McDole at Brossart.....How does NCC keep winning with "STUDS" like these deserting their father's alma mater??? LOL!!
-
21-7 Highlands. 99 yard bomb.
We call that the "Guidugli-Buten" special!!
But in JV it's the "New-Shehan" fly!!

I was impressed by QB #45 for Covcath (Lankheit?). Very nice command of the field and threw some very nice balls. Also, #9 (WR) did a nice job running routes and made several fine catches w/YAC. He also stepped up bigtime as a fill-in QB to lead the Colonels to a big late score which set up the kick-off/time out stand-off.
Sheehan-New connections were HUGE! True ran well. HHS D was erratic...sometimes stellar, some plays/series...less than stellar. O-line needs alot of tinkering. Punters for BOTH squads were varsity quality!! Comment: I HATE seeing punts not fielded! I totally agree with previous comment on the punt snaps! Good, solid and clean game by both teams...the rivalry continues!!
As for the music, pre-game was hard rockin' tunes...the during game was for the cheerleader routines, I believe. Or it may have been "special request" for LN!! lol As for the scoreboard...it is NOT a case of shenanigans toward Covcath. The board has been having "issues" the past few games (national TV included!).

Did Uncle Ted ever make a tackle that far away from the LOS??? LOL!!
-
I can't believe that there were seats available on the Highlands side. There must have been a big band competition Saturday! Was that the one tackle that Roller DIDN'T make?? (j/k "AA battery" has been fully charged lately!!) Anyone notice the Cincy St X v. St. Iggy score? 3-2 X wins (X scored all 5 points...preventative safety late in the game!) Go Birds!
-
SK big...Simpson gets his "average" (250+ yds / 5 td's)
-
St. Thomas COULD HAVE had a very fine FB team. I remember some absolutely brutal blacktop parking lot games! But we're going waaaay off thread here!

Clearly people have different ways of defining "worst loss in HHS history." When I think "worst loss," I equate that with "most embarrassing loss. Highlands losing to Male at home 30-0 in 2001 (a game that was ended at halftime on account of weather, so there's no telling what the final score may have been if the full game had been played), Highlands losing to Rockcastle County 45-6 in 2002 (RC then got beat pretty handily by Boyle County in the finals, making this loss look even worse), Highlands losing to Boyle County 44-10 in the 2003 state finals (especially given how high-profile the game was, with it being a state finals game), and Highlands losing to Louisville Saint Xavier 45-0 in 2005... these are games in recent memory that stick out to me as being among the worst (i.e. most embarrassing) losses for Highlands.
Losing to...Campbell Cty in 1975

Let's reverse the question: Would a victory by CovCath Saturday be bigger than the Mud Bowl for CCH?
-
jar45, I'm so very sorry to hear of your great loss. I can't imagine the pain that you and your loved ones are going through. May the Good Lord find some way to help ease your pain and deal with your loss. LN
Ditto!

Would a victory by CovCath Saturday eclipse the Mud Bowl victory as the "worst loss in HHS history"? (by some).
