  1. I will only go to Music City...Liberty and less is trashy to say the least! Really how many UK fans go to Shreveport, 10% that would have gone to Atlanta, Tampa, or even Nashville.

My money is on Nashville, they really got burned by not selling out and losing hotel revenue last year!

  2. It's not like there's never been a debate about woulda, shoulda and coulda's. I recall seeing tons of discussion about a hypothetical St X/Highlands game. I agree it's about matchups, but, imo, CC would handle Beechwood because of there size and strength and players like Berry and Gray are as quick as anyone that would be on the other side of the field. I think Beechwood would have had more success throwing the ball against CC than they did against Mayfield and it would definately be a closer game. Just an opinion.

I too think that Gray & company would beat the Beechwood team I saw last Friday, just too small up front to handle the farm boys blocking for Gray & Critt backs!

  3. Jonathan Jackson, freshman, arguably the tops the Commonwealth has to offer. He's a beast!

He is AWESOME...if he can grow two more inches could be a MAJOR D1 prospect from ALL the top teams in America...honor roll student with all the tools! Probably the top Freshman in the state I would say!

  4. How big and good was Crittenden County's line? If they averaged 250 or so up front AND have athleticism to go with it, then they would have a chance against Beechwood. But you absolutely have to be that big and good to have a chance against Beechwood.

That was Beechwood's challenge all year. They were undersized up front and the guys played with great heart. I give all the credit in the world to the Beechwood guys up front who played undersized, out of position and hurt all year but fought through it to get this team to the state semis. Tremendous effort by the Beechwood men on the line in the face of great odds and adversity. But size takes over at some point if the guys with size have the athleticism and execution to go with that size. Mayfield's line has it all - size plus athleticism and execution.

It was NOT Mayfield's speed that won this game for them. And I am not taking one thing away from their speed because they have it in bunches. They have excellent speed all around but this game was won by Mayfield at the line of scrimmage. Trade the lines on these two teams and Beechwood wins. Look what Mayfield did on their first two drives of the second half. They lined up and just played smash mouth and Beechwood just did not have the size up front to stop it. Mayfield virtually stopped passing the ball in the second half because Beechwood just could not stop them up front.

Shelton, Murrell and Guhy are all as advertised. I put Shelton right there with the best players I have seen in recent years - Quan Weaver, Austin Collinsworth, Xavier Shelton. I don't know how big Shelton is but if he doesn't get a D1 scholarship, he should walk on to a D1 because he can play on that level. Murrell reminded me a lot of Ricky Buckler but with maybe little more speed. Guhy did a very good job running the team and making good decisions.

But just to help prove the point that it wasn't Mayfield's speed, look at Guhy's completion percent - barely 50% at 13 of 25. And that was with all the time in the world to throw because Beechwood put very little pressure on him. Beechwood's speed guys covered Mayfield's speed guys very well. There was one downfield pass completed all night that I recall and one other intended for Shelton that was defended perfectly and intercepted by Vocke. Almost all of Mayfield's completions and passing yardage were on quick outs that Beechwood's defense is designed to give you. But then Shelton picked up the the yards after catch with his elusiveness and ability to break tackles. Shelton is an amazing player.

Very entertaining and really matured from what I have seen...Hearing that Memphis and UK want him to go juco route...I really think if he could make it through JUCO he could REALLY contribute on the next level.

  5. I am just glad that Coach Morris rediscovered how to coach again this year. There was a lot of negativity on the message boards last year about the state of Mayfield football. Looks like they have the ship righted

    . Congrats to them.

Biggest thing is he got Cliff Dew to come back from mississippi...he is letting Dew handle the defense and hatchell offense.

  6. Who will earn the 2009 state championship title?

(Please keep ALL discussion focused on the upcoming game. Other topics can be discussed in a separate thread. Thanks.)

Looks like a great matchup...if Mayfield comes out like tonight no turnovers and good field posistion battle we beat LCA! Looking at the stats #30 for LCA is their workhorse. If we contain the #30 for LCA and play well in the secondary as we did tonight...Mayfield wins over LCA...too many weapons for LCA! Shelton and Jackson both tweaked legs tonight, but should be ready to go!

What about the OL & DL for LCA???

    I'll just say:

    Mayfield 33

    LCA 22

  7. Congrats to Mayfield on the win. Mayfield had over 500 yards of offense tonight.

Mayfield's overall team speed was what won them the game. Beechwood not having a passing game hurt their running game something terrible.

Very clean game between two very classy programs.

Mayfield should have some very good teams the next few years. Mayfield only has 10 seniors and not all of them play.

William Higginson at DB played his best game ever and the Mayfield secondary overall was outstanding! Higginson broke up at least a half dozen pass plays!

  8. All I can say is WOW :eek::eek::eek:

Mayfield's coaches said this was the best week of practice and it showed!

Mayfield skill positions were just too much and the D & O Line's for Mayfield just flat wore Beechwood out...holding them to 2 first downs and 111 yds in first half!

I'm VERY proud of this team!!!
