Not at all, he was not part of the current staff. I know Ben and my objection would be his ability to get a quality staff around him and his lack of head coaching experience. He is a very good coach, he should look to be a cordinator first.
With all that said, I would be excited if Ben got the job, his excitement and attitude would overshadow my concerns. I know the players liked alot when he was here!

So someone whom has been around the program for over 20 years can not do the job at Lloyd is what you are saying here. JD
Depends on which person you are talking about. There are some guys that have been around the program that I would love to see come back.
-
Well if this is true, according to Neverwrong this would be a terrible choice b/c he as well used to be a Lucas assistant.

Neverwrong do you have an axe to grind with the current Lloyd coaching staff? JD
It is my opinion that they need a fresh start and a new coaching philosophy.

There is a reason why this happens. Why would someone leave? Maybe that is what he was referring to.
There are alot of reason kids leave, perception of a bad program is one. A bad enviroment at the school could be another. My point is Lloyd has had proven success by going out and hiring a coach from outside the program. Mike Key was hired from Berea and he is doing a great job. He has started elementary school teams and Lloyd now hosts one of the best Christmas basketball tournaments around, all things that were not done by the previous coach! Basketball number keep going up. Ironically enough, Coach Key as the athletic director, has a great opportunity to give this program a new face and energy that hopefully will excite the players, students, parents and community.

Why are you so down on the existing coaches? I realize that maybe a change is due but to assume that the current assistant's are not a viable option to replace Coach Lucas is absurd. Just because they were under Roy doesn't mean they wouldn't/couldn't do a good job.
Roy Lucas is a good coach, it was his assistants that were bad. I have faulted Roy for surrounding himself with bad coaches, so in my opinion none would be a viable option.

BTW, more than changing the head coach on the football staff is needed to fix Lloyd. If you guys that are posting are from Erlanger, then you should know to what I am referring. If you don't, then you shouldn't be so adamant with what you opine. Such strong opinions without the facts make people less credible. JMO
So are you refering to to lack of participation or the lack of school spirit? Maybe the adiminstration? Are you refering to kids leaving and going to other high schools?

Lloyd gave up too many walks to start the game. CC hit the ball good, off both lloyd pitchers. We got it back to 10 - 6 but a 2 out 2 strike double cleared the bases. Too many errors too. CC's 2nd baseman made two great plays also, very nice team! I still like our team, its early!!

Hiring anyone that has been on the current coaching staff would be a total mistake! Lloyd needs a new coach that will breath new life into the program! Lets hope the search is wide and we get a new look Juggernaut football team next year!

Does anyone have any insight or know who may have applied?

I like Campbell County's catcher, he has a fantastic arm! Camels hit the ball good yesterday

I can't believe this is even a debate! Absolutely the coach should talk to every kid that tried out for his team. The kids deserve to hear why they didnt make it and what to do to improve, for me a coach that isn't willing to discuss with the kids that got cut why they got cut already had his team picked before the tryouts started. What if the coach showed up to practice and there was a note from Johnny on the dugout telling him he wouldn't be there, how well that would go over!

Job just posted yesterday and I think a couple of assistants have showed interest I really don't know anything other than that at the present time. I just hope they work at it quickly and get the job filled. Have talked to several players and they are hoping it is done quickly also. JD
I hope you mean assistants from other schools!!

How long did the entire process take for Holmes to hire Mr. Liggin? Just curious!

this is SO BORING..... Can we talk about 9th region baseball and not about spring break and Ft Thomas????
I agree...I can't even remeber who the team to beat this year in the ninth region is anymore?

Finally, someone calls me on Lloyd running the table!! Running the table may be a stretch, but this team will be a contender next year. We need to get back to just winning first and this new schedule will give this team a chance to put wins together, gain confidence and build momentum. I thought New Cath and Holy Cross lost alot to graduation this year. Brady Hitchew is a fantastic athlete, I love watching him play but that aside what do they have coming back? Newport too while Im asking?
-
You can't run the table in NKY 2A without getting real dedication in the weight room.
I dont think our problem will be in the weight room, as DARARK has mentioned several times, we need to replace some O lineman. If we fill those holes we will be very good running football team! Lloyd returns almost every skill player back, QB, running backs and recievers. We run the ball like I think we will next year ,Smith will have time to throw to Wood, Nunn and Tolle and we will have the balance that we never had last year!

JD, couldn't agree more with your comments. It is very aggrivating to get on any thread dealing with Lloyd and it turns into a coach/administration bashing session regardless of sport. I think Lloyd has great coaches in all programs (Key, Lucas, Moore, etc), would just like people to find other excuses besides the coaching.
I find it hard to talk about Lloyd football at the moment and not mention the coaching situation since the coach just resigned. I have said that Lucas was a good man and a good coach that surrounded himself with bad coaches, you may dissagree but thats your opinion. Lloyd is like every other school out there, they have good coaches and bad coaches too. I also said that Lloyd was going to run the table in 2A next year because of the quality of athletes returning to the program. Also, I dont think anyone will dissagree that when Yeagle was hired there was mass excitement! It was time for a change, for everyone and when a new coach is announced there will be more excitement, that is all I was saying. Where ever Roy Lucas lands that team will be getting a quality offensive coach, I hope to see him on the sidelines next year!
-
How does a coach go about making kids stay in the program?
By doing what he did..resign. Lucas surrounded himself with terrible coaches! The only way this program stays the same and continues to loose players is if they hire someone off the current staff to be the head coach! If they go outside the program and get a new guy and fresh start you will see an immediate change. I still remember the level of excitement when they announced Yeagle as the coach a few years back, although that didn't turn out the way everyone wanted, the fact of the matter is people were excited and kids wanted to play football at Lloyd again.
-
I see Lloyd making a real run next year, this will be a different team then this years!! I can only hope that they go outside of the current coaching staff to find a replacement, if they do, I'll go ahead and say it first, they can run the table in 2A in NKY next year! Any word yet on any possible coaches? GO JUGGS

Dexter Smith and Brady Asher were 2 and 3 in tackles for LLoyd last year at LB, Asher had 2 interceptions as well. Jackson Wood and Dakota Kid will be very good at DB. If Dillon Smith stays healthy he will be a force!
-
Best wishes to Coach Lucas. As the other poster stated above, Lucas tried to leave the head coaching position a few years back but came back when the school and team needed him. Kudos to him for stepping up and for all his efforts at Lloyd over the many years he has been there.
Lloyd needs to look at this as an opportunity to get some new energy into the program. Sometimes change is good for everyone.
Roy is a very good guy and I wish him the best. With that said he may have stayed a few years too long, I agree that change will probally be good for Lloyd and Coach Lucas!

They have to run the ball, Asher proved he is a very good running back, wonder how he would do at tailback with a healthy Dillon Smith blocking for him? Kidd really came on last year too, really runs hard and is deceptively quick. I also think with the addition of some kids that didnt play last year they will have alot of success with the new schedule. Dexter Smith will also be helped out by a good running game. Asher has the ability to have 1000 yards, if that happens Dexter will have alot more time to throw the ball, it will also open up his running game more too. There are kids onn that team he can throw to, he has the arm just needs time in the pocket, he is tough as they come! Let's hope they get the right coach in there! He has some talent there!
