  1. Can you elaborate on any of the 2 names that were there last night?
  2. Has anyone heard anything solid about candidates to this point. Mercer needs to get a coach now, any news of who they are interviewing or have interviewed?
  3. Do you know that for a fact? I think he is what Mercer needs. Hope he gets a chance to go home or they give him a chance. If this is the case, then you have to do what you have to do. Have they even posted the Mercer job for anyone to apply yet anyway?
  4. Which coach are you refering to Skilld-Kid? We want to know what you know!
  5. I think the real question here is this, Is anyone seriously thinking about the kids? It would seem that things could get done fairly quick but the administration does not seem to care about what the kids think or doing what's best for them. Hire someone, Yeast, Buchanon, Rains, or whoever and get them here in January so the kids that play have direction sooner than later. There are a few jobs that are open due to coaches resigning and they have been posted. I assume they will be conductng interviews sooner than later. We have known about this job being open for a few weeks now and they still have not posted the position. For the sake of the kids, make a decision and go with it. The longer Mercer takes to hire a coach, the worse the season will be for the kids next season. It will not matter who the coach is! It will be tough to have much if any success! No direction in the off-season strength and conditioning and no spring football spells another 2 or 3 year setback for a program that has promise, but not much direction right now. There are good kids over there, if Mercer is not careful most of parents will start taking their kids to other places. I hope that doesn't happen but it is certainly something that could.
  6. From what I hear from the people I know that know him, they say Yeast wants to coach at Mercer for a long time if they were to hire him. He has two young kids that he would want to see grow up and graduate. I believe his kids are young too, elmentary school or possible middle school. If he gets an interview it will be based on what he can bring to the table and not if he has family in the school system or not. In some cases those things can help and in other cases they can hurt you. IMO, Yeast would be a great hire and would be there for the long haul. As far as the merger goes, not sure how he feels about that but for him to want the job say a lot about what he thinks.
  7. Yeast has never coached at Danville to my knowledge and I keep up with what's going on in the area. I'm not sure where that comes from, maybe it's because he lives in Danville. I was told that for a year he did a lot of driving when he coached at Lincoln b/c he worked in Lexington, lived in Danville. Driving from Danville to Lexington, Lexington to Stanford, and from Stanford to Danville everyday would be tough for anyone. That also speaks to the passion and committment he has to coach. He left there because Lincoln had no positions or in the school and Marion offered a position in the school that he still holds but the coaching situation there was not good for him. The coach at Washington Co. played college ball at UK with Yeast and that's why he went there. I'm sure if he does not get the Mercer job he will be back in WC, and they will be pretty good again next year. He works at Marion Co. and coaches at Washington Co. anyone who knows anything about that rivalrly would know that he is in a tough situation. From what I have gathered he has handled a tough situation very professionally and with class. I would not be so quick to judge where a guy has been as a coach, I see production whereever he goes. Yeast is a young guy who I'm sure loves the area or he would not have come back. I'm pretty sure he would want to be at Mercer for a long time. It is home for him is it not? the old saying in "home is where the heart is." Who's to say he hasn't been trying to get to Mercer from the beginning? That would be a question I would like to know the answer to.
  8. I think we use the word "experience" too loosely sometimes. Just because a guy has never been a head coach doesn't mean he is not ready to be a head coach and lead a program. Every head football coach in the history of coaching had to start somewhere. I bet you they weren't a head coach before they became a head coach. When a guy goes off and proves himself as a player and as a coach what else do you need. It's to my understanding, every place Yeast goes the teams get better and they win. The proof is in the pudding, if kids love playing for him and they respond well to him, IMO, that all I need.
  9. Remember This, I do not know him personally, I know some of the parents of the kids he coaches at Washongton Co. By all indications he is a great one and they hope they can keep him around. They say he brings a lot to the table and like I said before, their kids love him. I agree that not all great players make great coaches, but from what I hear he is the real deal. Ir would seem that he would be what Mercer needs.
  10. Lets not forget that Yeast also grew up there and is a darn good coach. I think the community would welcome him as well, considering that he is a home grown boy that went on to set SEC records and play 8 professional years as a player. If he wants to come home that speaks volumes to me. As of now, he coaches at Washington Co and helped them turn their program around. WC was 3-8, Yeast joined their staff and they went 9-2 this year. He was the OC at Marion last year, they went to the semifinals and their offense was very explosive, he left and their season was not good (5-6). I also know some of the parents of the kids at WC and they say all of the kids on the team love playing for him. This says a lot about about what type of coach and person he is.
  11. I have no affiliation with any of the parties involved, I'm just a huge fan of the sport who is close to the surrounding area but on the outside looking in. Based on what I have read on this whole thread, it seems like their may be a ton of problems that will not be easily fixed. I think it is important that the administration get behind whoever the next coach is going to be. I also think that the parents need to cheer for their kids and the team and let the coaches coach. Mercer's next coach will definately walk into a mess and it will be important that he has time to build the program. Mercer will need to choose a guy that will be there for the long haul. A special person with instant credibility should be required for this position. The next coach will have to coach parents, players, and administration, he will have to be tough with discipline and genuine at the same time. Everybody throws out names and all the names are good, but we all know that's just what it is right now, names. Rains is a great coach that knows how to win. He's won a few championships. Buchanan has a great program at Mason County. He seems to reload every year with great talent. Craig Yeast is a developing into one of the best coaches around. I hear he gets the most out of kids and they like playing for him. Dennis Johnson is a good coach, but middle school is what he coaches I think? That's about all I know about him. I do know he along with Craig Yeast played at the highest levels. Well so did Jason Dunn he's from there, but I have no idea where he is or what he doing. If I had my pick, which I don't, I would have to say Yeast would be my guy. He is one of four guys that I mentioned that grew up their and he does a summer camp there already. He's young and up and coming with ties to the area. I think all those guys would be a good fit. Like I said, this is only my opinion!
  12. I agree with you guys. I can't wait to see how this all plays out. Any team in this region has a chance to get to the semi's and possible finals. Good luck to all!!
  13. Washington County beat a 4A top ten team, #8 Marion County a few weeks ago. To my knowledge MC is a pretty darn good football team. I know you may not have a ton of respect for a pretty good Washington Co. team but I have seen them play and they look pretty darn good to me. They have some playmakers on offense and a defense that has given up the least amount of points in all of 2A. They don't do anything flashy or exciting, they just play good sound fundamental football. They are not great athletically but they play as a team, they fly to the ball and hit hard, and that makes them faster than they appear to be. Plus, I think they are scoring about 30 to 40 points a game along with 3 shut-outs. Not to take anything away from any other team in the top ten, but these boys are solid.
  14. Hey Ryle Fans, I am tired of hearing Ryle didn't use any sets against Marion. What makes you think Marion run any of theirs? The day is coming Ryle to see where you stand. The countdown begins.:ohbrother::ohbrother:
  15. He also left off Kyvin Goodin-Rogers in the 2013 Class...Come on Ron:thumb:
