Height, or lack of, will definitely be Pendleton County's achilles heel. Their center last year was realistically around 6"1. However, from what I hear, strictly rumors keep in mind, there's a kid by the name of Aaron Bonar, who's around 6"5 who may be coming out to play basketball. He's a junior, and a football standout. I know nothing on whether or not he can play, but I know he's very athletic.
-
Deadeye shooter Timmy Cooper returns for Pendleton County and fellow senior Dillon Greene had a great summer for the team.
-
As of tonight, Corey Gregg is back in Pendleton Co. Trying not to read too much into this, could just be a visit "home".
The last thing we need is another rumor about Rose Hill, so let's kill this one before it gets started. Corey will not be back at Pendleton County i know that for a fact. From his mouth. He also plans on staying at Rose Hill, it just kind of depends on what happens from here on out with his teammates.

This is very good for the kid. I watched him play, and no disrespect to Dayton, but he may have been the only talented ballplayer on that team. Talented kid though for sure.
-
Not top 10. Top 10-15 maybe.
I would definitely consider Demetrius Avery a top 10 9th Region player.
-
Stephen was as good of a kid as you'll ever meet. He always worked hard on the basketball court and had the drive to succeed. This is a tradgedy that's hitting the whole community hard. The Elrods are a close family, just keep them in your thoughts and prayers.
-
I would say after Mason County and Clark County the 10th Region predictions is anybody's guess. I would think second-tier teams would be Scott, Campbell County, Bishop Brossart and Mongtomery County.
-
I heard that Martin is undecided at this time but is leaning toward playing basketball but will not be playing football.
Thanks :thumb:
-
I heard that Jared Martin wouldn't be playing to focus on baseball. Is this just a rumor or is there some truth to this?
-
Experts. Interesting. Samsel played point on defense. 2-3 zone now has a point. You're right, I need to brush up on my basketball intellect.:ohbrother:
I wish Barber luck this season. Look forward to his promotion.:thumb:

No one can argue Clark County and Mason County are at the top. From there, this region is pretty much up in the air.
-
Umm I'm pretty sure he did get some PT last year. I mean he did kinda start all year long.
I assume you're talking about Manship?
-
I know these kids mostly just through hearing their names. I don't think I watched a healthy Clark County team play once last year, if there ever even was one. Forget what they're listed at. How big are Purvis and Rogers really?
-
Will he even start at Mason? The name, I can't remember, and we played Montgomery Co 3 times last year. Barner leaving will hurt Mason.
GRC has returning:
Zollo
Purvis
Rogers
Stenzel
Daniels
Brewer
Martin
Add in Kendred, and all stay healthy...:ohbrother: GRC should be the favorite to win the 10th and make some noise at state.
Don't get me wrong. Clark County will be absolutely loaded. But I wouldn't consider them too much better than Mason County. Better? Probably. But not by a lot.
-
GRC will be the heavy favorite in the 10th region next year. This team will be loaded talent wise and could easily make a state title run in 2010. Robbie Stenzel is the best player in the 10th region and in my opinion will win Mr. Basketball in 2010-2011. With that said, this team will go as far as Stenzel can take them over the course of the next two seasons. To win a state championship you need that one player who can take over a game and hold a team together. A great front court is nice to have, but guard play is the area that dominates KHSAA basketball. If GRC develops a servicable point guard and Stenzel keeps doing what he does best this team can bring another state title to the 10th region. I compare Robbie's importance to this team to that of Chris Lofton and Darius Miller to their respective State Championship teams. A Mr. Basketball candidate and a good supporting cast is usually a recipe for success in the state of Kentucky.
I would consider Clark County the favorite too.. but saying they're the heavy favorite is a little much. I would almost consider Mason County and Clark County 1a and 1b in the 10th. Mason County returns Gilbert, Pawsat, Setty, Barner (if he's back) and has Manship, the kid from Montgomery County.

From what I understand he left school and was getting his GED.He would have been a senior this school year. This kid had talent but could not figure things out. Its ashame I wish the best for him.
Didn't Brewer transfer away from Newport before dropping out of school?
-
I think he has some growing left in him only time will tell for sure. He is only 14
and has a year of playing varsity under his belt. He played well against some bigger guards last year and this year and has held his own. He has a big test tomorrow in Fucci with Tates Creek.
Here is what they say about Future.
"You may have a bright FUTURE:but we don't live in the future. You are judged on what you do NOW".
My opinion is he is doing very well Now against older 17-18 year old kids!
Also not worried about size but does a few of these small PC guards bring back any memories or thoughts. Gary Barnard, Bobby Lee Wyatt, Jerry Wright, Jimmy Gregg, Marlon Gregg, Talbert Turner, Mark Mains and Timmy Cooper??
One last quote I like: "Just because you ball doesn't mean you're entitled to it all".You have to earn everything; nothing will be given to you!
"It ain't the size of the dog in the fight. It's the size of the fight in the dog." :thumb:

Harrison County was missing Malcom Thomas, Jared Martin and Eric Sanders due to baseball. And Bracken County went 1-3. The win was over Pendleton County, and losses were to South Laurel, Beechwood and Newport.
-
Because of a dunk?
No, those were two seperate thoughts. His dunk was crazy. Also, I would think he's far and away the best player in the 13th Region.
-
Matt St.John from South Laurel had one dunk that appeared was going to rip the entire goal down. I would consider him by far the best player in the 13th Region this year.
-
I would throw Brandon Tucker-Newport and Cody Turner-Dayton into the discussion.
Is Brandon Tucker the lanky player for Newport that can absolutely jump out of the gym? I saw their game against Bracken County at Pendleton's team shootout and he had two thunderous dunks and two sportscenter-worthy blocks. If that's not him, what is that kid's name? No one seems to know.

NKY totally agree with that I was just giving you a little background on the kids as well. Saying they have been successful before so it won't be that they are nervous tonight because they have played on ESPN before.
I would take any state title regardless! LOL
Our football team this coming year will also have that tag since we are in 5A and well we would have to beat the mighty power Highlands.
Things are changing in Owensboro. Sweet 16's every year in basketball, state finals in baseball a great football program that people will come to know a little better this year. State track stars. OHS is starting to look like the OHS fom the 80s again.
It's just nice to see someone other than the usual suspects playing a role in state titles. I always have pulled for the underdog.
Overcoming nerves is half the battle in a game liek this, so that's definitely good.
I couldn't agree with you more on the underdog issue. When i see a team other than the normal Lexington and Louisville teams in the running for a title in any sport, I can't help but root for them. It's just so fun to see the big dogs go down. Best of luck to Owensboro tonight! :ylsuper:

Help me break this down Breds Fan. What will it look like next year?
Seniors- Shane Fowler, Josh Moss, Matt Dye, Malcom Thomas
Juniors- Logan Dailey, Eric Sanders
What would the rest of the lineup look like?
I know there's a really young kid that can absolutely mash the ball. Paul Jones I think is is his name?
-
Owensboro has a young team not a lot of seniors and for the most part if anyone remembers the Southern little league team that went to back to back little league world series.
Well those boys are now juniors and sophmores and they are finally starting to perform. Of course those teams were split up between Apollo, Owensboro Catholic and OHS but there is some talent there. They have had 3 head coaches in the last 3 years and apparently they are starting to come around.
The last time OHS won a baseball title was 1987 when they started the season in Florida and came back from there with 0-10 start but lost only one game in the state of KY that year to Apollo and went on to win it.
Records aren't everthing when it comes to baseball and for those that do not know the story of these players almost every one of thm are multi sports guys and when it counts they perform always have. The record may say cinderella but mos of these boys have done more at a young age in baseball than most baseball players in the state can only dream of.
Good Luck guys most everyone on here don't know but we do!
Despite what the kids have done in their past, with their sub-par record, they'll be tagged with that Cinderella title. Either way, it's tough to not root for a team like this! :thumb:

The Florence twins were the only starters. The kid from the junior class was a jv player.
