  1. Curious as to what this Sullivan fellow has done in camparison to some of the heavy hittes that are rumored to be pursueing this job (Steve Wright, Booher), etc.). Other than the fact he is from there I believe, why would anyone think he could beat those guys out for the job? Not bashing anyone, just curious.
  2. AFR, suggesting we deprive the kids who want to play football the chance? Where did I ever say anything remotely close to that? My original post was only to dispute your belief that football programs carry the costs of spring sports in the majority of high schools throughout Kentucky. I beleive for most schools basketball is the one that pays for spring sports. Plus, your estimation of basktball teams in Kentucky vs. football is way off. There are 265 school in Kentucky that field a basketball team, while only 220 field a football team, which is quite a bit of difference (45 high schools). Since Class A football has the highest number of teams of all the classifications, perhaps it proves my point that numbers are not why schools choose to not have football. It plays a part for some I'm sure, but the expense of football is the main issue. Last thing, how does gate receipts not equal profit? Without payed behinds in the seats no one can make any profit.
  3. AFR... no way most football programs make money. I would estimate less than 1/2 in Kentucky actually make a profit most years. Proof lies in the fact that many schoold don't fool with it because of costs not number of kids. As I mentioned in my last post, football costs an arm and leg to equip each kid. They do use equipment over some, but repairs are always needed. Plus, they only play about 5 or 6 home games period each year, and the weather can really effect profit. This is a basketball state, and even though the crowds may not be like they used to, people still come out and support hoops (especially at tourney time). The current playoff format with football is very costly for most schools too.
  4. Very few football programs in Kentucky "fund" spring sports, most lose money. It's basketball that funds most spring sports. Less cost to field a team, more games played throughout the year, etc.
  5. Probably because to find out about the job... and all that goes with it, one would probably have to apply first. Once the school decides who they want it's their job to sell the program to the prospective coach too. I would imagine that schools sometimes drop the ball on this part.
