How in the world did you put Corbin over Middlesboro. They got thumped by them not even a week ago. And even though they haven't played, based on like opponents, I feel the same way about WC and Middlesboro.
My order of favorites is:
1. SL
2. Clay County
3. Middlesboro
4. Bell County
5. Corbin
6. North Laurel
7. Whitley County
-
The regional tournament will be at Whitley County High School.
-
North Laurel is on a little roll after defeating Whitley,Corbin and Harlan County over the past week.North Laurel is starting to show this region what a force they will be over the next three years.
I know everyone has a tendency to think that they are the team of the future but I do know that SL, Corbin, KC, and Clay County all have pretty young teams that have great potential.
The number of young players doesn't always translate into quality young players. NL does have a good group of young kids though. I look forward to seeing them develop.
-
Their are two alternates however, that could very well end up coming out of their districts and they are NL and Whitley County. If NL comes out of their district, it would be a disappointing end for the Clay County team no doubt.
I actually think NL has a pretty good chance of making this happen.
-
Who pitched for both teams? Does Harlan County have that catcher thats pretty good back on their team?

Someone started a thread for the 14th region to base their discussion on and I thought that would be a good idea for the 13th region. After the regular season games have been played, here is a short rundown of how all the 13th region teams stack up.
49th District @ Clay County
Redbird 0-9 vs. Jackson Co. 10-7 (5/18 @ 5:00 PM)
Clay County 19-3 vs. NL 9-12-1 (5/18 @ 7:00 PM)
50th District @ Corbin
SL 18-4 vs. Williamsburg 5-19 (5/18 @ 5:30 PM)
Whitley Co. 14-11 vs. Corbin 15-13 (5/18 @ 8:00 PM)
51st District @ Lynn Camp
KC 8-13 vs. Lynn Camp 1-12 (5/18 @ 5:00 PM)
B'ville 7-12 vs. Pineville 5-9 (5/18 @ 7:00 PM)
52nd District @ Harlan
Bell County 16-7 vs. Harlan 6-12 (5/18 @ 6:00 PM)
Middlesboro 16-6 vs. Harlan County 7-16 (5/18 @ 8:30)
I think that the eight teams that will come out will be Clay (1), Jackson (2), SL (1), Corbin (2), Knox Central (1), B'ville (2), Middlesboro (1), and Bell County (2).
On a side note, could the 51st District be the worst district in the country? I think it may be a possibility.

I am not sure who is playing SS for the Jags but I would agree on the best 8th grader. Marcus Carson is already performing at a high level and will just get better, ... and only an 8th grader (and a legit one at that).
This score surprised me, but didn't shock me. This NL team is very young, but is talented and has been up and down all year, .... often in the same game. This NL team tied Lex Cath and the very next night lost to Knox Central. This could be a very crazy postseason. Right now, I think that South Laurel and Clay HAVE to be the favorites to win it, but who knows. NL had a losing season in 2007, but got hot in the postseason and won the district & region for the first time in school history. That year, I thought for sure it would be Middlesboro or South Laurel, and boy was I wrong.
You weren't that wrong. If SL and Middlesboro didn't play a 10 inning game, the winner would have had some pitching left over for the championship. It was obvious that they were the better teams. NL just got the luck of the draw and got to play Middlesboro after a marathon the night before.
-
North Laurel moves to 8-12-1 on the year and Whitley County moves to 14-11. No doubt WC didn't throw there best with their big game on Monday coming up but NL didn't either as they have an even bigger game against Clay for their district tournament opener.
-
They have been very down. They hit the ball well but they have no pitching.
-
I saw Middlesboro beat them 16-3 tonight. That was kind of the score that was expected for the Whitley-KC game.
-
Impressive score.
-
Did Middlesboro committ alot of errors?
No, they really didn't actually. They had one throw from the pitcher to first base that could have been a toss if he had wanted to that just sailed over the first baseman's glove. They had one more, a throw from SS that probably should have been caught by the 1B that tipped off of his glove.
Other than that, they fielded several balls that they missed the other night. They also had a different defensive lineup in the game. Maybe that had something to do with it. But...they played very well defensively.
-
Sorry I didn't get this one up last night. SL played very well tonight with 0 errors and at least 10 hits against Middlesboro's pitcher Matt Cox. Middlesboro had some good hits as well but they didn't have any in clutch situations.
Bowling hit another homerun, his 3rd against Middlesboro alone. It was a well played game and actually, a little closer than the score indicates.
-
I would take a forfeit then. 1-0 W. Especially, if they didn't give your coach enough time to find another game.
-
Yeah this weather is terrible. We might be heading down to Middlesboro instead of them coming up here.
-
I think Corbin bounces back and wins by 4+ runs.
-
That's all we need- Pittman to be getting healthy at just the right time.
Imagine if they lose to Bell in the District championship and someone has to face Middlesboro in the first round of region with Pittman on the mound. Talk about worst case scenario.
-
Yes, and It looked like Corbin wanted to go home as soon as they showed up.
What makes you say that? I know Middlesboro hit the ball well. Did Corbin not play any defense? How was their pitching?
Did Pittman look healthy?
-
big impact, you go to the game?
-
Heard the bats came alive for Middlesboro and Pittman pitched a dandy. Anyone see the game?

:thumb: However, I don't think that this was his point in posting this. The point is that somebody on here really doesn't like Ledington, and chooses to downplay anything that he does positive, point to any negative and ignore the facts. REMEMBER, that they also said that the only reason that Whitley beat South the first time was that South 'threw off'. Regardless of the fact that Whitley scored 5 runs in the win AND the loss.
Sounds like Whitley couldn't plate enough runs. If they could have scored as much on them as they did South in either of their 2 games, they would have won. :sssh:
Don't get me wrong, I want South to do well. I live in London and the 2 teams I want to do well are North Laurel and South Laurel. However, it really bothers me when someone has an obvious agenda or vendetta and continually want to push it. The fact is that Whitley is a whole lot better than they were last year. Same thing happened when Ledington went to Bell. Fact is, he can coach. I am sure South has some losses they would rather forget about. It happens.
I simply stated a score. You all are the ones that can't deal with that score. And for the record, SL is the #1 seed in the district and I assure you, they earned it.
-
SL has a big advantage because we can save our ace for the championship. I think Corbin will beat WC (needless to say) which will set up a Corbin vs. SL matchup.
-
Clay is fairly solid this year. I still don't think they have what it takes to close the deal. And that isn't even saying that they don't have the most talent either.
-
Whitley lost to a pretty weak McCreary Central yesterday. Just when many thought they had turned a corner, they lose to (11-11) McCreary Central who had early in the season, been beaten by NL, Corbin, SL, and only beat Williamsburg 2-1.
Not the best game for the Colonels.

Corbin wins because of coaching and defense.
