  1. I didn't say my team was #1 in the region. I just said that I thought NL wasn't and that Middlesboro was. Coming out and watching NL play a very down SL will not change that, even though SL has won 4 of the last 5 meetings between the two teams.

Isn't it bad when the only thing you have to hang your hat on is that the score was tied 1-1 in the fifth with Lex Cath? They got beat 11-3. That shows me that it was only a matter of time.

Looking at KHSAA, 4 of Middlesboro's 5 losses came while in Florida, playing Florida schools. The only common opponent between the two schools is Corbin. Corbin pitched Vorbeck against Middlesboro and lost 15-6. The next day, they pitched someone who was not their ace and only lost 6-5 to the Jags.

  2. Since Ben Jones is gone on senior science trip, will Vorbeck turn around and start today's game if they don't get rained out? If not, who will start for Corbin?

I would imagine that he would. It is very common to bring in a kid for a 7th inning appearance to close a big game and use him as a starter the next day.

Not that it means anything in this case but by rule, a pitcher must only sit a day if he pitched 3-5 innings, which clearly, is not the case here. I would assume it depends on how he feels.

  3. The score really suprises me because I know Williamsburg doesn't have much, but still yet, I figured South would run rule them!:idunno:

Williamsburg isn't terrible. When they have Perkins or Barton pitching well, they can keep most games close. They just don't have the offense to outscore anybody.

  5. The team to beat this year in the 13th region is going to Knox Central with the additon of Tyler Bailey and Arron Smith to go with Justin King with the picthing they should have a pretty good rotation.

Heard Bailey pitched and Knox got beat 10-0 by Middlesboro in just 5 innings tonight. Ouch.

  6. Let me ask you this question then, what always do you find on a championship team? You find a player who is not flashy, he just makes every kid around him perform higher than ever expected. Think about that for a second.

You also, coincidentally, find a stud pitcher, great catcher, and good coaches. You can only get so lucky.

  7. Actually, this basketball season showed that consistency is absolutely necessary to win a title. Sure you may win in the first round or even second, but if you're an inconsistent team, you could very easily lose the third, even if you do have more talent.

So, I think it boils down to who is most consistent during the second half of the season.

  8. Is it time to take SL off the contender list? I'm a former player of SL, I will admit, but dang, this year has been frustrating after such a good season last year. As mentioned in another thread, I know think that Clay, Middlesboro, Whitley, and NL are the clear contenders.

Knox Central, HC, Corbin, and SL are definitely spoilers though. They would not be a good first round game for anyone.

  9. South Laurel 3-9 (wins over Knox Central, Wyclyffe OH, & East Carter)

Corbin 7-6 (wins over Clay, Barbourville, Rockcastle, McCreary, Hilton Head SC, West Oak SC & South Laurel)

Neither team has torn it up. South has disappointed me, but I do expect them to start improving with several young players. Corbin has a first year coach and I expect them to start improving as well. Neither team is at the half way point and it is hard to tell how they will finish up.

South really needs this game tonight over Corbin. South has not been able to score a lot and if the offense can get on track, they will be okay. Corbin has been able to score but has shown the propensity to give up a lot of runs so far. Both teams have a lot of work to do.

In the region, Whitley, Clay Co and North Laurel are the only teams who have already topped 100 runs scored. Between those 3 teams, they have only 1 regional loss.

I think it is going to be a fun run down the stretch.

Actually, Middlesboro also has 106 runs.

But really, a better judge of a team is runs given up. Any team can go out there and run it up on an inferior opponent. And perhaps their hope is that by running it up in as classless a way as possible, people may tout them as a great team based soley on run production.

Of those tops teams in the region, coincidentally, Clay County and Middlesboro are tied with just 68 runs given up. I actually think these two teams are strong contenders at this point, along with Whitley and Corbin on some days. Look out for a team from the 50th district to get hot though!!:sssh:

  10. I read where Coach Ledington said that Corbin did play pretty well in that game, they were just beaten by a much better team. Blessed Trinity, GA has one of the best programs in Georgia and have several former players who are currently playing Div 1 baseball, a couple playing minor league baseball and another in the majors. I think that Corbin faced a pitcher who has already signed with Georgia Tech, so sometimes you can play well and still be beaten soundly.

    And the Knox Central game?

And from the Wolfson website, their most recent results show them as being 6-8. They played good ball in that loss as well?

  11. I don't have a problem with the list, I think it is just as easy to say who has the best coaches and work from there. Take it easy and relax, you have your opinion and I have mine, its all just speculation at point in any event. I would rather sit back watch some games and then make an informed decision.

The more important question is this: Who has the best concession stand? and Why?

Got to be SL, Whitley, or Corbin.

As far as coaches go, top 3 in no particular order:

    Wynn Harris

    Rob Ledington

    Bill Powell
