  1. You're right about that, it seems to be more with Ledington though than Whitley. South Laurel is probably #1 right now with Whitley and Corbin pretty much at a dead heat for #2, although if Martin continues to have shoulder problems for South Laurel, someone may overtake them at the top.

This Corbin team is a little inconsistent right now and not playing typical Redhound baseball day in and day out. Defense has let them down several games and the pitching needs to improve and probably will when Hendrickson is able to throw some and the Smith brothers get some more innings in after their late start.

I don't have a problem with Ledington. I just think he is a bit overrated. I find it funny that everyone defends him right now and brags about how well the team has been doing lately when Ledington hasn't even been coaching in the games. You all didn't have much to say about that on another thread. Anything to add? Maybe he didn't deserve it but don't go on saying "Ledington has this team on a roll" when he has been suspended indefinitely.

  2. I know South won both games, but IMO South is not better than Corbin! A. Corbin is just getting their basketball players back into the swing of things because remember they did go to RUPP, B. SOuth isn't even the best team in the District. If I had to pick the team in the 50th District right now it would be Whitley Co.

    I know you're not serious!!! :laugh::laugh:

South Laurel is the OBVIOUS frontrunner. Period. They have beaten some very good teams. Corbin is a close 2nd and Whitley is a very far away 3rd.

  3. Stated I was impressed with Middlesboro, and my comments had nothing to do with the lack of hustle or the errors taking away from that. Williamsburg is one of the smallest schools in the state, HS enrollment is only around 220.

Wow, I didn't realize it was that low. Regardless, you're right, they could have played much better.

  4. Williamsburg has some kids that are decent players. With that being said, they are very undisciplined (players not running out fly balls, loafing on dropped third strikes for just 2 examples), do not play as a team, and do not execute very well on offense or defense ( errors, mental mistakes, inability to move runners). I don't understand the lack of hustle on a few players part. I wonder why this is acceptable. I'm not the coach, but when I have coached you either busted your hump or sat down. I could get really hyper critical of a number of things I've seen this year but I won't in this forum. Suffice it to say Williamsburg is very dissappointing thus far, and the same old excuses of being a small school are getiing old. Size has nothing to do with hustle, effort, and discipline. If they were to lose every game, but would play with those attributes it would be a sucessful year. I was very impressed with Middlesboro's play as a team. They appear to be very well coached.

It seemed as though most of them hustled. The left-fielder was a bit slow reacting at times and the catcher didn't block everything up that he could have but for the most part, I think this win was more abotu Middlesboro being pretty good. They simply knocked the cover off the ball all game, especially in the 5th.

As far as size goes, they aren't any smaller than Middlesboro right?

Middlesboro has their old Coach Powell back I think. He always had them ready.

  5. I would have to say that the first pitcher for Williamsburg shut down the Middlesboro sticks I think he only allowed 4 hits in 4 and half innings, the problem was Williamsburg continues to make fielding errors on routine plays and allow teams to steal every base ( no team should get 3 runs on 4 hits). After the first pitcher departed Middlesboro did kill the baseball with many shots to the fence scoring 13 more runs. Also Williamsburg has no offense at this time. Good win for Middlesboro - Williamsburg need to shake things up.

This is not the case. I was at the game and Middlesboro had guys hitting the ball all game long. In fact, they had 5 runs through 4 inning and when they started scoring more in the top of the fifth, Barton was still in the game. Furthermore, although it seemed like Middlesboro's lefty wasn't having his best game, Middlesboro's defense made all kinds of plays.

Middlesboro can embarrass a team on the base paths. Man, they can flat out fly. Good win Middlesboro.:thumb:

  6. At this point you would have to think that Williamsburg has to make a decision as to whether they want to compete in the "All A" or in the 50th. Normally they would not be in this position but with the rainout, it definately puts them behind the 8 Ball.

Seems like it is that way for every team competing in the All "A".

  7. Cody Perkins threw well for Williamsburg and it was tied at 1 going into the bottom of the 6th. Whitley put up a 5 spot as they put the ball in play and Wiliamsburg made several errors to help Whitley along. Kind of a shame as Perkins pitched well and kept Whitley off balance. Williamsburg had their chances but left way too many on base. It was curious to see Williamsburg attempt sacrifice bunts with runners on 1st and one out already on the board. Seems your per centages go way down trying to score from 2nd with 2 outs instead of 1. I could understand a hit and run maybe, but a sacrifice in that situation??

Does Williamsburg have anyone left to throw against Middlesboro tonight? Is there game down at Williamsburg or in Middlesboro? Hopefully Williamsburg, I'd like to see these teams play.

  8. The bases were loaded in the bottom of the 7th inning, with 2 outs. The batter hit a line shot that hit the runner at 3rd base. It APPEARED that the runner was in still in foul territory when struck by the ball (after being struck he fell in to fair territory). The HP umpire called the runner out. A controversial ending to say the least.

Wow. That sounds wild. Just wondering though, how can a runner on the third base line get him by a line drive in foul territory and fall back in to fair territory? I'm just trying to picture it.

Anyway, I hadn't exactly how they ended the game. I just heard one of the HC players went crazy on an umpire after the game and then on his own coach. This true?

  9. The difference: Coach Smith was handed a regional championship team. Coach Ledington was handed a team with little success from last year.

Expectations: Bell should have beat Clay by at least 6 runs

Whitley would have been expected to take thumping.

How is Smith doing with his "class"? I think he had a study hall at Whitley.

How is South Laurel doing this year?

Why in the world should Bell have beaten them by 6 runs?? Didn't Clay go to the regional championship last year? Didn't they beat Corbin once and WC twice already this year? Was Clay County a tough game for WC or not.

Earlier people were using the fact that Clay was a good loss to argue that WC has had a tough schedule and now they are saying that they are so bad that Bell should have beat them by 6 runs. Makes no sense at all.

  10. And I'm sure Bell County was chomping at the bit to get rid of a coach that won the regional championship

As an employer, they need him to be a teacher first and a coach second. Perhaps he got that confused. You can't even hide a bad teacher, they are always exposed.

And to call Clay the top team in the region is wrong. Bell County beat Clay earlier in the season and still hasn't lost yet. Maybe Ledington wasn't the key ingredient after all.

  11. Whitley County too put Ledington closer to home. As I see it Whitley and Bell just switched coaches to make things better for both coaches. However, I do feel Whitley got the better coach out of the deal. I have only heard good things about Ledington from the Whitley fans. As far as his record this year. Whitley County has played some really close games with a pretty tough schedule. I don't think anyone at Whitley is dissapointed with how Ledington has handle this years team. We play regular season games to get ready for the big ones. With that being said the Colonels are now 1-0 in district play. Go Colonels!

And I'm sure he was chomping at the bit to leave a regional championship team that only lost one player!:lol: I'm sure he went to WC because he "wanted" to.

And I've looked at this tough schedule everyone keeps talking about and I don't see it. I mean, one of their losses was to a 4-5 Southwestern.

  12. Yeah I have not heard that from anyone from Bell, AND Bell hired the Whitley's coach who had "limited" success at Whitley. Hey I like John Smith but I am VERY happy with Rob Ledington. Regardless of how he ended up at Whitley I think the Colonels will be better for having him.

As far as that goes, I don't think anyone really said anything other than he was getting the job done, or moving the team in the right direction. Which if you look at things is true, they have won three games in a row after struggling early, I would call that moving in the right direction and getting the job done. Certianly he may not have early but now he is.

Is there any doubt that Smith chose to leave WC? He is from Middlesboro right? I heard that once he made his interest of going back to his home area, they made things happened and opened things up for him. It was only then, after the position was vacant did WC contact Ledington.

Nonetheless, if you have watched WC and can truly same they are getting better then I cannot refute that as I have only seen them once. If this is the case, perhaps Ledington is taking them in the right direction.

  13. Although Whitley has only won four games, they are 1-0 in the district and only a 11 games into the season. The kids are really starting to understand what is expected of them. You can only teach so much in practice, you really learn during games and game situations and Coach Ledingtonn is starting get the Colonels headed in the right direction.

Sounds to me like maybe someone does not want him have success, and the comment was kind of like whistling past the cemetary.

What people neglect to metion is the fact that even though he did win the region last year at Bell, THEY LET HIM GO. This is not opinion, it is fact. Anyone close to the situation would tell you the same.

Whitley may be winning a couple of games now but Williamsburg is weak as well. Although I am a firm believer that good teams beat the teams they are supposed to and then some, I don't think there was ever any doubt that Whitley would kill Williamsburg.

  14. Despite the predictions of many on this forum, Harlan County has struggled mightily thus far this season. Their only win comes against a very weak Konx Central team and it was by a one run margin at that. I was wondering if those of you who have the chance to watch HC play can tell me why they might be struggling like this and if the morale of the team is as low as an outsider might imagine?
