  1. Oh come on, stop being so sensitive. Is anyone in here seriously going to tell me they don't think it's funny that Mr. Football in Kentucky doesn't come from Kentucky? If you said, "No. It's not even a little funny," then I say to you, "Shenanigans." It has nothing to do with a "cheap shot" or whatever you want to call it.

He went to a Catholic grade school, he chose to go to the second-best Catholic high school in the area. :D There is nothing wrong with that. Besides... if you had the opportunity to get out of Indiana and escape to the Promised Land of the Bluegrass State, wouldn't you? They say the faith of a convert is usually deeper than that of one who never doubted. I, for one, am glad to have him in Kentucky. And we could not have asked for a more exemplary representative for football in this state.

It is fine to make a sarcastic remark but at a kid? Also the comment came from a T fan and I would find it awfully hard to believe that a Hoosier has never suited up for T. Just glass houses thats all.

  2. Not a bad feat when you consider he doesn't live in Kentucky!:dancingpa:dancingpa:dancingpa:dancingpa

ooch, pretty cheap shot to take at a young man, IMO. Expecially if it's possible you may live in a glass house.:D

Congrats Duece hope to see you playing on saturdays in Commonwealth stadium soon.

  3. Tony's right. The KHSAA makes nothing off regular-season games, but the finals are one of their biggest revenue sources, and they have to protect that.

And from a programmer's perspective, the audience would look pretty small when measure against those production costs and the costs for rights fees, especially for the two games that are played in the middle of a weekday.

I know nothing of the business but air time on a local public cable channel can't be that expensive can it? I understand that the KHSAA is trying to protect it's revenues but take me for example, I can't make the games but would love to watch them on TV. Is there really that many people who would not attend because they are on TV? Or is it a case that the KHSAA wants to steep of price to broadcast the games that local cable companies can't make enough ad revenue to cover thier expense? I would even consider PPV if it can even be done on a small scale.

  4. If it is all about numbers, then why are so many insistent that Ft. Thomas Highlands is better than both Trinity and X? What is Highlands' boy enrollment? What reasons do Highlands supporters cite as contributing to their superior position?

Who made that statement? I think HHS would no doubt compete very closely with T & X but clearly are not better year in and year out. Several people have posted that T & X would "destroy" Highlands which is highly presumptious IMO.

The numbers are they numbers, kids gravitate to the best programs especially top notch players that may be looking to get a full ride on the next level. You get to play an extra 4-5 games a year and win state championships and play at the top level in KY in front of recruiters. It just snowballs on itself. The only possible solutions to this problem(if you see it as a problem) is for the publics to take thier lumps in the finals and hope to catch lightening in a bottle once out of every 15-20 years or to go to a 3 +1 or 4 +1 format.

To suggest that the numbers don't help or that T & X "make" better players is high comedy from individuals who just may need to take thier blinders off.:walk: I will say that numbers aren't the only factor and they probably do spend more time on films and weights than most publics do. In other words numbers help tremendously but aren't the only factor.

  5. IMO you are seeing Simon Kenton reap the fruits of Dixie being unable to capitalize on some of the talent that has been through there in recent years. Maybe the good football players are giving another school with a new turf field a shot. I know someone who's son plays for Summit View middle school and they told me that a majority of the parents they talked to with the kids interested in playing football were planning on heading to play for Marksberry. This conversation took place back early in the middle school football season before this run to state by the Pioneers. Or it could be just an extrordinary talented class of kids at SK this year, who knows.

  6. I think Highlands' team this year is excellent, one of their better ones. They would not beat St. X or Trinity. Not this year nor any other year. Sorry. I am a N. Ky. fan but I am trying to be honest on this. When Highlands BEATS one of the top tier large school teams they play, then we can talk. Highlands is a 3A school playing in 5A and fantasizing about beating 6A schools. Good for them and I would love to see it happen. But they aren't there yet. I am afraid 2,000 plus students vs. 700 students is too much to overcome.

As to the debate at hand, Trinity and X are head and shoulders above everyone else in the state. Compare the rest of the Louisville schools to N. Ky. and I take N. Ky., even if you throw Highlands out. I would like to see some of the N. Ky. 6A schools play games against Louisville 6A schools (Trinity and X excluded...because we know how those will go).

Uhh HHS did beat Trinity in 2000;)

  7. Yeah we won the High school championship in 1929 against Highlands. :thumb:

For the record, I don't see how Glasgow is important in this situation. I'm bringing an un-biased view into this situation, unlike Louisville or NKY folks are able too. For the record, I voted for two of the NKY teams to win this weekend. I'm not totally set out to get them. I just think Louisville carries the better football.

They have two teams that carry the better football.:thumb:

  8. Colerain beat them 33-18... I'm pretty sure Colerain isn't the best the nation has to offer.

I guess you consider a 15 point loss a destructive loss, especially after losing your Mr. Football candiate running back. BTW if I am not mistaken they were ranked 8th nationally at the time and lost to the Ohio big school state champion in double OT in the playoffs. So they pretty much are one of the best teams in the nation, IMO.

  9. The HHS high road is good for promoting sportsmanship and discipline among their athletes. The high road (or even the roof) also promotes the acoustics of the cannon fire that goes off after each and every Bluebirds' home touchdown...regardless of the score. :D:D:D Highlands is the best team in northern KY, by far. They may well be the best team in the state.[/quote

Great post Flotsam, you forgot to mention that they are also the Faaaastest and the Maaaaadest team in the state as well. :D

    They are Awesome too!:thumb:

  10. Here's my thinking about this game. All five NKY 6A teams were very close in ability and Boone proved to be the best team during the regular season. Any of the 5 teams would be in the same boat in this game. However, hats off to SK for upsetting Boone in the playoffs and SK deserves to be playing for the state title. So, I saw SK play twice and was not impressed by their offensive firepower other than 4-5 great plays by Simpson in the second game vs. Boone. T's defense is better than Boone's and SK scored only 14 against Boone during this period when they are on a "magical run". To have a chance to hang around with T, SK will have to control the ball. SK will not be able to sustain long drives against T with just the run game and they do not pass the ball well enough to give T problems with the air attack. So, T will have the ball more often than SK likes. SK's defense, like most high school defenses, is very vulnerable to the pass (see recent SK-Conner game). T runs excellent passing schemes and routes. In addition, SK has not seen a back with Phillips' speed as they try to stop the run game. T is superior to SK on both lines, offensive and defensive. Are not most games won at the line of scrimmage? I'm certainly not rooting for T to win, they don't need my support. They are just plain good and the best coached team in KY. SK is in for a long night, but I know they will give GREAT effort. My best guess at score is 52-7. Prove me wrong, Pioneers.

I am pretty much in complete agreement with this post. I hope SK can pull off the upset but I see a 48-14 win in favor of T.

  11. They may just have the best player in NKY but this is the same team that had to squeek one out against Camel county late in the season to get the 4th seed in a very average NKY 6a district. They have had a wonderful run, I just can't see them matching up against the football machine that is T. I think it will be very similar result as when Ryle made it a few years ago.
