  1. When Elder won their first State Championship, Trinity beat them like they stole something that year. Of course the small schools in NKY will have trouble beating a D-1 Cincy school. They have as many students in one of their schools as NKY does in 2 or 3 of their schools combined. But to say that a KY school can't play with either of the St. X or Colerain teams that played Friday is simply, silly. Highlands doesn't shy away from any of them. They just don"t have the numbers of a St. X. school who has 100 Jr's and Sr's on their roster. If they did, there wouldn't be a team in Cincy who would beat Highlands.
  2. CovCath (1) beat Holy Cross 24-0 today. Pendleton County beat Woodland 19-18 today.
  3. Colerain was very young and fast. Tyler Williams #1 is only 5'7" 150 lbs but one of the fastest kids you will see in high school. He's only a sophomore. This kid is gonna be special. It was asked earlier in the thread how this Colerain team compares to the Colerain teams in the past 10 years. Not sure about the past ten years but IMO, this Colerain team wouldn't beat any of the Colerain teams in the past 5 years. They are just to young and inexperienced. It seemed that everyone who ran the ball was a sophomore and everyone who made a tackle on there lightening fast defense was a junior or sophomore. Colerain will have an impressive record this season because their schedule just isn't that tough. They should be a better team by years end but I really don't see them being a real threat to win state. But in the next two years, look out! If there was ever a year Highlands could beat a Cincy big school, this may be the year, although I wonder if Highlands will be able to handle Colerains speed, especially on that Colerain defense. St X. was a little tougher to gauge because Massa and the stud linemen were out. I do believe if Massa could have played it would have changed the whole offensive game plan for X. IMO, X. may have been able to pull off the win. The two back-up QB's did not play very well and made a lot of mistakes. St. X and Colerain's defense were way ahead of their respective offense's. Tyler Williams had a couple of big plays which resulted in two td's for Colerain but other than that, both teams struggled to move the ball at all on offense. Overall, a somewhat boring game. Didn't have the feel of the past St. X.-Colerain games. Maybe because it was the first game of the season and not a playoff atmosphere. St. X. better improve or they may walk away, make that limp away, from the Trinity game like Elder did a few years ago.
  4. Thank you. I heard they had a huge turnout. I wonder what schools make up the Covington Catholic Middle School Football teams. Anyone know how their looking?
  5. Does anyone know if CovCath had so many kids come out that they are actually fielding 2 middles school teams this year? We have CovCath(2) on our schedule. Was thinking the (2) meant there were more than 1 CovCath team.
  6. Yesterday we had what we call the county scrimmage. Twenhofel, Summit View, Turkeyfoot and Woodland all scrimmaged each other on the same day. This is the 2nd year for this scrimmage. This is held on Twenhofels new football field. What they do is divide the field in half and have 2 teams start on the 35-40 yrd line on one side of the field and have the other 2 teams start on the 35-40 yrd line on the other side of the field. That way they have 4 teams scrimmaging on the same field at the same time. Each team gets 10 minutes of offense and 10 minutes of defense in each scrimmage. Summit View-Gonna be a tough year for Summit View. Their numbers looked down compared to last years team. Couldn't get much going on offense and had lots of trouble stopping anyone on defense. Some of the 8th graders were asked/allowed to play for Scott's freshmen team this year. This really seems to be hurting Summit View. Could be a long year for them. They were 0-3 in the scrimmages. Turkeyfoot-Kids look very big but surprisingly they don't seem to be as good as last years team. Moved the ball decently on offense but struggled on defense. I do look for these kids to get better as the year progresses. They were 1-2 in the scrimmages. Woodland-This school did not win a game last year and only won one the year before. Different coaching staff this season and it shows in their play. They moved the ball well against Turkeyfoot and SVMS, not against Twenhofel (I'll get to them in a minute). There defense looked surprisingly good. They beat up on Summit View and Turkeyfoot pretty good. This is not the same Woodland team of the past couple of years. Very well coached team. They went 2-1 in the scrimmages. Twenhofel-Looked nothing short of awesome. Maybe the best defense I have seen the past couple of years in Middle School. Woodland and Summit View did not gain one positive yard in their respective scrimmages against Twenhofel. These kids are fast and hit really hard. They do play 8 men in the box and are vulnerable to big plays but these kids tackle well. Turkeyfoot was the only team who scored off of a couple of big plays. TMS looked good on offense as well, running and passing. This team is gonna be tough to beat this year. They were dominate, 3-0 in the scrimmages. They play the "B" teams (mostly 6th and 7th graders) scrimmages on Twenhofels practice field with the same format. Sorry, I don't have a report on the B-team scrimmages.
  7. I was there too. Scott's Freshmen (30 kids/some 8th graders) team is light years ahead of where they were last year. Rousch is a heck of a football coach. Don't know how many games they will win but they will be a whole lot better than last years team. Scott Varsity looks like it still has its work cut out for them.
  8. Starting off with St. X vs Colerain at Nippert on the 22nd. Can't wait!
  9. The young men I'm talking about aren't even the ones you mentioned. These kids still attend school and are very very athletic. They choose to do other things in their spare time rather than compete athletically for their school. Its really sad. They are missing out on a great opportunity that they will surely regret when their high school years pass them by.
  10. I'm a Newport grad myself and I'll tell you, it gets harder and harder each year to hear about all this talent that just won't play for the football team. Its a lot of thing's but mostly laziness and no discipline. Not naming names but I know of a couple of young men who could step in and really make a difference on this football team if they could just get their head straight.:madman:
  11. I was told that Scott's Freshman team scored one touchdown last year. I know that the kids really believe in their new coach. I'm not sure how many games they will win but they should be much better than they were last year. Then again, that shouldn't be to tough of an accomplishment.
