  1. I'll agree that the officiating wasn't great and the strike zone changed from one inning to the next. I didn't know the Shutt hit Deeds in the face, whether it was intentional or not, in a game of that magnitude with so much on the line you have to keep your composure to help your team. Granted he wasn't called out and there was a replacement, but that does take some of the wind out of your sails. I didn't say that because I was an X fan, I would have said that had X, Trinity, CAL or anyone else done it. I am an X fan, but I am also all about exciting baseball played the right way. I think you should protect yourself, but in a game like that you have to think of whats best for your team. Great job by the ROCKS this season!
  2. I'll agree it was an exciting game and the umpiring was not exactly what you would expect for a regional semifinal game. However, I do think Deeds should have been ejected, I don't know what was said between the two, but I think if it had stayed at words only Deeds would have remained in the game. The shoving was unnecessary and there was no reason for it regardless of what was said. The CAL kid maybe should have been ejected, but the pushing and shoving will be an automatic ejection. Overall, it was an awesome game to watch and was very exciting. Give props to Trinity on a great season and to CAL for fighting through the toughest region in the state. I look forward to tomorrow night's championship game to be equally exciting.
  3. On paper, this is David vs. Goliath. X has a powerful line-up with the potential to put up big runs in a hurry. They have a senior dominated defense that is one of the best in the state and a strong pitching staff. With that said, people didn't give CAL a chance to be in this situation. After watching them play a couple times this year, they are small and don't have a lot of power. However, they find ways to win. They are as good as anyone that I have seen at playing small ball and manufacturing runs. They put the ball in play and force you to play defense. I don't know a lot about the CAL pitching staff, but I know they used 3 different pitchers tonight against Trinity. X will likely come with senior right-hander Kyle Just who has a decent fastball and pretty good curve. WHo is CAL likely to throw? What does CAL have to do tomorrow night to pull off the upset? What does X have to do to avoid the upset? What are everyone's thoughts on this match-up?
  4. Awesome game, this game was the same as last years. X beat Eastern in the bottom of the 7th last year in the regional. Not much offense in this one, but a classic pitcher's dual. The word is that X is throwing senior right-hander Kyle Just tomorrow night in the finals against CAL. Ryan Moesby will be on in relief if necessary. He is elgible to pitch because he only threw 5 on Tuesday when X run ruled Ballard. X is finding ways to win and has survived to play another day. Good Luck Tigers!:ylsuper:
  5. Fern Creek had some chances to win this one. I take nothing away from CAL they hit the ball well and made the plays that needed to be made to win. FC had a couple mistakes on the base paths and had some miscues in the field that allowed CAL to come back. Exciting ballgame, lots of hitting.
  6. 11 X hits and 6 Bruin errors proved to be too much to overcome for Ballard. Ballard struck early going up 1-0 nothing and then I heard had 3 errors in the bottom of the 1st. One to allow Sweeney to get on and then I heard the catcher made a bad throw on the steal and the CF missed the ball as well. X would score 3 more in the 3rd or 4th off a couple hits and some errors going up 4-1. X's bats exploded in the bottom of the 5th. Ryan Cline ropes a double down the left field line to start the rally followed by several X hits. Cline would come up again in the inning and hit a walk off double to right field line to score Kal Scheler from 2nd. Ballard had a rough day in the field, but even without the errors, Moesby pitched well and X proved to be too much for Ballard to handle. X played a pretty solid game overall. Now they have to focus on Eastern tomorrow night. Eastern will be looking to take X to the woodshed tomorrow night. They will be looking to avenge a regular season loss to X's sophomores and hand full of juniors. According to some people around UofL today Eastern ran for almost a half hour after their game with Whitefield Academy after what I am guessing is a sub-par performance. If X comes out and hits the ball well, Amlung pitches well, and X plays solid D, then I look for X to move on into the 7th region championship. GOod Job by the Tigers, stay focused and fight to play another day.:thumb:
  7. Couldn't agree more, as much as I would like to see X win, this region is wide open. Should be a great week of baseball.
  8. Don't underestimate Manual a bit. They have whipped X once and came 1 inning away from doing it again. X has beaten everyone in the tourney except for Trinity. With that said and it being one game elimination, I would not be surprised if X, Ballard, or Eastern sees Manual in the 7th region title game. Fern Creek could also be a dark horse team if they play good baseball. I am not saying they are the favorite to win the tourney by anymeans, but they could make it a rough last week of May for some teams. People are going to say different teams are the favorite based on paper. But this is baseball, one game elimination and everyone is fighting to survive. I wouldn't look past anyone. This will be an extremely exciting week of baseball with arguably 5 of the best teams in the state battling it out. Look for the team that comes out of the 7th region tournament alive to make a big run towards Applebees.
  9. I know X drew Ballard on Tuesday at 3:15 and Eastern has Whitefield Academy. Can anyone update me on the other side of the bracket and what days the 7th region tourney is going on?
  10. Eastern Ballard Trinity St. X Whitefield Academy Fern Creek Manual CAL Who is the favorite in next weeks 7th Region tournament and why?
  11. I believe they usually make the draw on Sunday. With the exception of maybe one or two teams, it doesn't matter if you are a district champion or a runner-up. All the games are going to be tough regardless of the draw. Is there any other region that is overall going to be as tough as the 7th with so many teams in the top 10 and top 25?
  12. Really a tale of one inning for St. X. The Manual starter looked very strong early on, he struck out 2 or 3 and got 5 or 6 batters to pop up in foul territory. Manual had a couple of good hits off of X starter Ryan Moesby, but a few St. X errors and some lackadaisical plays helped Manual go up 2-0 early. Alex Oswine hit a homerun in the bottom of the 5th to send Manual up 3-0. X exploded in the top of the 6th for 6 runs. They scored 6 off of 5 hits and 2 Manual errors. Manual pitchers hit one or two batters in that inning. X was finally able to put the bat on the ball and take advantage of some Manual mishaps. Ryan Moesby dominated from there, striking out the side in the bottom of the 6th. Overall the game was pretty sloppy on defense both ways. Both teams had some hard hits and good plays. Both pitchers threw very well, and there were some unearned runs on both sides. Does anyone know how things played out in the other 7th region districts? Good win for the Tigers! Good luck next week in the regional.
  13. Not a lot of offense in this one, but pretty good defense by the tigers. Hopefully they can pull out another win in the district championship tomorrow night.
  14. Riverside, I graduated about 5 years ago and he is still using that same saying, but its still great. There is not enough that you can say about Marty Donlon. He is a class act in every since of the word. He has taken students that don't have a whole lot going for them and made them into outstanding young men with all the potential in the world. He has huge shoes to fill, and honestly, I don't see anyone filling them. I don't think there is anyone that can come close to his career, both on and off the course, and achieve the things he did. My family and I have been fortunate enough to know the whole Donlon family for many years and they are some of the best people around. He was not only a great golf coach and teacher, but an outstanding individual and human being. And for anyone who is married or plans to get married...these are Donlon's 3 rules of marriage for men: 1. Your right 2. I'm wrong 3. It will never happen again. Anyway, Congrats to Coach Donlon on all of his achievements and his outstanding tenure at St. X High School.
  15. Ryan Cline was the SS, Ryan Moesby was the pitcher.
  16. WOW!!!! That is all you can say about this game. This was byfar the best baseball games I have ever seen, if you weren't at Tiger Park tonight you missed a defensive exhibition. Each team had 5 or 6 hits in this game and both had several chances to score throughout the game. We are talking bases loaded, no outs, and could not score. Tonights game had some of the best defensive plays ever displayed by high school athletes. Justin Amlung threw the best game of his career tonight, its a hard to pitch that well and get the no decision, but I think the win was much more important. Tied 0-0 in the bottom of the 10th, the Tigers get a couple basehits and a walk to load the bases. After a strikeout, SS Ryan Cline comes up and hits a deep fly ball to right field to sacrifice the game winning run home. The game should have been over in the bottom of the 7th after the PRP 2nd baseman booted a ground ball and Kevin Brinkman beat the play out at 1st base by atleast a step and a half. The umpire saved the game for PRP by calling Brinkman out, and keeping the game winning runner from scoring from 3rd base. The game was definitely a rowdy one, but a very strong performance by both teams. I'm glad St.X was able to pull out the win and bounce back after a tough weekend. GREAT JOB TIGERS!!:ylsuper::dancingpa
  17. As much as I would love to see Amlung blow PRP away tonight, I agree with Roc4ever and Homerun that that may not be the case. I don't think he has enough variability in his repetoire to keep PRP off balance the entire game. He is usually very strong at least the first time throught the lineup, but PRP is one of the best hitting teams in the state. The game should be very exciting and interesting with two of the top teams in the state battling it out. I will definitely be at Tiger Park this evening.
  18. The game is at 7:30 at X. I think this game has the potential to be a high scoring affair given the strength of both teams line-ups. On the other hand, It could be a very low scoring game depending on who pitches and how well the defenses play. I have a feeling that defense will play the major key in this game. Both teams are capable of putting up chunks of runs in a hurry. I think the team that minimizes mistakes in the field will succeed tomorrow evening. I don't think Cox will pitch either, I watched him pitch Friday night in their win against Henry Clay in the FCIT. I am interested to see how Amlung does, he is very heavily dependent on his fastball and overpowering the opposition. With a team that hits as well as PRP, I don't know if a good fastball and a decent curveball will get it done. I look for someone like Ryan Moesby to also pitch tomorrow if Amlung is to get into trouble. Who are PRP's 2nd and 3rd pitchers that are likely to throw tomorrow? Just wanted to know if anyone could give me some stats? I look for this one to be crowded and exciting. I know those around the X community are ready for this game. See everyone at Tiger Park tomorrow at 730. GOOD LUCK TO THE TIGERS:banana::banana::dancingpa
  19. After getting swept by Henry Clay on Saturday can X bounce back and have a strong game tomorrow night against the #1 team in the state. I have heard that Justin Amlung is going to throw for X, who will pitch for PRP? What are the keys tomorrow for X to pull the upset? WHat does everyone think about the match-up?
  20. Strong outing by senior right-hander Kyle Just gets the Tigers another strong win and boosts his confidence. Some timely hits and capitalizing on many LexCath mishaps helped the Tigers win easily. The game was still in striking distance until the bottom of the 6th until 2 hit batsmen, 2 walks, and some tiger hits help X put up a 5 spot. X had a decent game, but scored 8 runs on 6 hits and 5 LexCath errors, plust several walks and HBP. Overall I think X is the better team, but I think LexCath is a much better team than what they showed tonight. They were just having an off night, but good luck to the Knights the rest of the weekend. Two big showdowns tomorrow for X, they take on E-town at 4 and Henry Clay at 630. Good Luck X!
  21. X Friday 8pm vs LexCath Saturday 4pm vs E-town Saturday 6:30pm vs Henry Clay All games are at Henry Clay.
  22. What are some of the big matchups in the Fayette County Invitational this weekend? I know X has Lex Cath, E-town, and Henry Clay. It sounds like a tough schedule for the weekend, especially with the showdown with PRP Monday night.
  23. I agree with rock in a sense that Fern Creek may pull an upset and should definitely not be overlooked. X beat them 2-1 after scoring 1 run in the bottom of the 7th. I think the overall favorite has to be X, especially after this weeks games. I think if X shows up to play and hits the ball well they will be very hard to knock off. Their defense as a whole may be the best defense in the region. I have yet to see anyone that is any better than they are. The key for X is to stay healthy and to make sure that they show up to play every night. I don't think anyone in this region can afford to overlook anyone else. The post season should be a very exciting time in Louisville.
  24. At this point in the season where we have seen several big 7th matchups? What are everyones feelings on who the top team or teams are in the region? Who has the best shot at making it through the district and competing for the 7th region title? WHo is the favorite at this point?
  25. Sounds like a very impressive win for the young tigers? I know that all of the X seniors were gone which is all but 2 starters. This should give a boost of confidence to some of the young players who don't see the field often. Was anyone at this game, that can let me know what went down? I heard Eastern threw their 2 best at X. Good win for X!:dancingpa
