  1. I don't think any of us would hesitate to have a team comprised of the young men that were named. Fine tuning it with a swap here and there depends most likely on who you saw the most/least of during the year. As for the ones that didn't make it, I know some of them had some monster games and took their team and put it on their shoulders at time. However, maybe they weren't as consistent in their production as some of the others. After all, it's based upon opnion (which is not very scientific to begin with) and you have to draw the line somewhere.

Congratulations again to all that were named.

  2. This loss will make SO's path tougher but "to be the best you have to beat the best". Good luck to both teams.

Hate to see a game decided this way, and hopefully SO will rebound emotionally in time for next week. Could potentially set up a huge first round game against Simon Kenton or Shelby County. But, sooner or later, you'd most likely have to face one, or both, of them.

    Good luck to both teams.

  3. I think they would do us proud in Bowling Green. Just disappointed that the Lady Bearcats didn't put up more of a fight. I really think they have the talent to play at a much higher level.

They have the talent, but they just didn't match up well in this game. SK too physical on defense, especially at the guards, for WV. Somebody that's content on playing half-court defense or a lot of zone, Walton could fare wll against. (Maybe against Owen??)

Congrats to SK, though. They came in and took care of business. Girls looked focused and ready to play in both games, taking nothing for granted. Should provide some interesting matchups in the regional. Imagine South Oldham vs. SK in the opening round!?!?!?

  4. IMO, Dressman was certainly the difference in the ball game. WV had no answers on how to keep him off the offensive glass.

I agree. That's what I thought made Simon so difficult for Walton to beat. You could focus your attention on Maegley, but there was always someone else that was also talented to slide in there and hurt you. Same way in the backcourt.

That being said, both teams deserve congrats on making it to the region. There's some tough (but not unbeatable) teams that they'd have to go through...but maybe we could have a 4th meeting in the finals at Henry County?

  5. It will be a difficult night for Walton Verona. You can't just draw up stuff and practice them for a couple of days and expect it to work at in a district final against a quality opponent like SK.

Maybe grab 6 or 7 guys off your boys team and put them on the court at the same time??;)

Honestly, Hargett's the only ballhandler that Walton's got that might be physically able to handle SK's defense. The thing that would/could help her is her height, and the ability to throw over top. If the others try that, it'll end up in a steal or a lot of tipped passes.

  6. Any knowledge of how the game came down? Owen jump out early...or pull away late? Either way, good win for Coach Duvall and the Rebels. Sets up a big game with the Wildcats now. Isn't this the way it's supposed to turn out...two best teams of the district battling in out in (what should be) a packed house (for both sides) with the championship on the line. Should be worth the price of admission!!

  7. IMO from what I saw out of SK this year they were a better team with out Layne..

Don't know if they were "better" without him...but they do know, now, that they can win without him. Grant played a pretty good ballgame, and yet the Pioneers still win by 10+. Does that make them lucky or good? Perhaps a litte of both. But, Walton will have to bring their "A+" game as SK has too many weapons for all of them to have an off night. Hot shooting outside by one team coupled with cold night from the opponent could make this a blowout. Don't think that will happen, though. I'll take SK by 9.

  8. At least there wasn't a Big fight in this one!

Thought this game, and the one that followed, were two of the best officiated games I've seen all year. There's always ticky-tacky stuff that each coach will usually complain about here and there. But, I don't think any of the four coaches tonight should have any problems with the way the games were called. Nice night for the guys in stripes!

That being said...congrats to the Bearcats! Being able to get the Demons caught up in your tempo, and hitting those 3's (11 of 'em?!?!?) helped seal the deal.

Good luck against Simon Kenton on Thursday night.

  9. Offensively, both teams bring a lot of weapons to the table. Grant may have a slight edge down low...Walton, likewise, on the outside. Will be interesting to see what Grant does defensively to Hargett. Maybe a chaser? I'd also expect Walton to pack it down in a zone and dare Grant to shoot it from outside. If Johnson and Plunkett (and Hopperton) hit some open shots, they could make the Lady Bearcats pay.

Because of Grants better depth down low...and since it's on their home court...I'll take Grant by 5.

  10. Kinmon doesn't judge his season on wins and losses. If he did he wouldn't scheldue Anderson, Shelby(2 times), Oldham, Ryle, Ashland, and other teams on those teams level of play year after year. He prepares for post season which is all that matters. For example, Last years Owen team was on of the better teams they have had. Won 20+ games but could of had a tougher scheldue. If I remember correctly, they didnt go far in postseason. You can say he needed a win, but their are bigger fish to fry come Monday Night. An out-of-district game that is 2 days away from Grants district is not worth a chance to injure one of their main players.

    AMEN!!!!

  11. I think Walton will have to much all around for this game to be close. Even when the 'fight' happened at Walton a few weeks ago, Walton still won by 15 or so.

But what was the margin when the "fight" started? If memory serves me, it was only 4 or 5. As a result of it, Walton got the following "help"...

    - 6 free throws from the technicals (plus the ball?) I thought it was an 8 point swing or so.

    - the ejection of Williamstown's starting backcourt (Anglin & Spoonamore), plus the absence of the Demon's only two "big men" (Caldwell & Vice).

I'm not saying that Walton may still not have won the game, even if the "fight" had not occured. And they may still win Monday's game by double digits, too. I just don't know if we can put a whole lot of stock into that last game between the two.
