  1. Not really. I just mentioned Scott County.

Most 6A schools are vastly smaller; that is a true statement.

That "they have nearly double the enrollment of most schools in their class is not a true statement." Some, yes. Most, no.

    Scott Co.

    Henry Clay

    Eastern

    Dunbar

    Lafayette

    Henderson

    PRP

    Bryan Station

    Manual

    Male

    St. X

    Madison Central

    Ballard

    Central Hardin

    Tates Creek

    Butler

    GRC

    Simon Kenton

    Ryle

    Nelson Co.

    Daviess Co.

    Greenwood

    Meade Co.

    Seneca

    Boone Co.

When doubled, have enrollments of 1,500 or greater.

    Words mean things.

I agree. But give me 13 picks you take 8 and I'll take my chances, especially when my picks come from all of Jefferson County and yours come from a specific area in most cases.

  2. I have two things because I'm tired of all this bash X and Trinity for being good...

    1) they are all 16-18 yr old boys no matter what school or class they are in. Let them play football and to be the best you got to beat the best...that's what I've always been told...

    2) I don't think California is whining this much about De LaSalle being great. And they've won 19 straight state championships!! Imagine the backlash that would occur if it were to happen in KY!

This is about 5 class proposal. I don't think anyone has bashed T or X. I agree it is teenagers playing football so thats why I think the more success the better. De LaSalle has won 19 straight North Coast section titles. The State Bowl games have only being on 5 years. LaSalle is 2-2 and playing again this year. They are also in the OPEN division which is for the best schols regardless of size.

  3. No stress here, just stating my opinion. I'm not so naive that I don't understand that football is a much more "size intensive" undertaking for a school than many other sports, and needs to be classified; but simply feel that too many classes lessens the achievement of winning a championship. If you and others chose to think otherwise, that's cool.

I understand a line has to be drawn somewhere and 6 classes stretches as far as it will go but I just think it gives more and opportunity to succeed.

  4. Talked with Dudley on Sunday after the Best of the Bluegrass game and he said he is indeed coaching the Boarder Bowl this year.

WOW. I would have thought there would be an NAIA rule against it. I bet the head coaches from U Cumberlands, Union, Gtown, Cville will all be wanting to coach next year.

  5. It also creates a joke of a playoff system, where winless teams make the "playoffs"?? Even the NBA or NHL aren't that silly!!

Heck I bet you think the Bengals should be a playoff team, just so Mike Brown's feelings don't get hurt?? :D

NO I don't think the Bengals should make the playoffs. You must be my wife because for some reason you keep wanting to tell me what my goal is and what I think. I bet the winless teams stay winless after their playoff game also. Maybe you should just stop watching and worrying about KY high school football and you wouldn't be so stressed.

  6. Comparing the NFL and KY HS football is the real joke?? So approximately 1 in 37 wins a state championship, 1 in 9 wins a regional, and 1 in 4.5 win a district; if they could only award "sub-districts", we could probably achieve your goal of awarding everyone a championship.

Regarding your last statement, show me where more kids are playing due to 6 classes??

I agree, comparing the 2 is a joke. Where did I say my goal was everyone win a championship, show me where that is? My question is simply whats wrong with letting more KIDS and SCHOOLS win a district, region or state championships. How does it hurt? I would like to know number of players now as compared to 6 years ago. Not sure that is something the KHSAA keeps records on.

  7. Chicken nuggets and oil changes - would coaches ever make a decision not in their own self interest?

6 classes creates more opportunity for kids and teams to be successful. This will create more interest and more participation. This is HS football the more kids playing the better. So what 4 teams make the playoffs, so what there are blowouts.

  8. Was there input from certain representatives of the coaches association or a significant portion of the state's coaches? At the time, some coaches I know were wondering where the push for six classes was coming from ... the "coaches" or the KHSAA.

I would like to know what coaches were/are against it. Of all the coaches I have ever had conversation with over the last 4 years there were NONE against 6 classes. I will say it isn't more that 30-40 coaches that I have spoken to.

  9. Kentucky needs no more than three classes in football. Being the best of 30+ teams and being declared a "state champion" is a joke IMO.

There are only 32 teams in the NFL so winning the "SUPER BOWL" is a joke? So what there are 6 state champions, 24 region champs, and 48 district champs. It's high school football and the more success that is available the more kids will play..

  10. I have to admit that I don't know if work study is on top of financial aid. It should be. Let me also offer one clarification of the 50 percent number. Aid is limited by the amount of money available. If there was enough money available to cover 100 percent of documented need, that is the number that would be covered. As far as enrollment dropping if we dropped football, so what? It is none of your business why a student and their family choose a particular school.

It is none of my business and I didn't try to make it my business. I simply ask ??'s I didn't know answers to and made statements that are true. Not sure why the jabs have to always be thrown but if it makes you feel better then go ahead. I have considered sending my child to private school but I think it's something I will reconsider.

  11. No one goes to T for free. Of course some kids go to T to play football. Some very good players leave because they think they are bigger than the program. But all pay something to be at T. Again, as i posted earlier, :deadhorse: , if tuition were not an issue star players form other programs would have found their way to T,and T and X would win every title in every sport every year.

I am trying my best to ask ??'s I don't kmow the answer to. Why offense is taken to it I'm not sure? Can a parent volunteer and student do workstudy to cover other half or part of other half of tuition. Trinity doesn't win football championships because of star athletes. They win because of NUMBER of good players.

  12. None of the aove. We will work VERY hard to make Trinity available to every young man and family that wants what we have to offer. Unfortunately, every year there are some that just can't afford it. We work very hard as a community to keep that number as low as possible. This year Trinity will give out approximately $1,300,000 in need based financial aid, thanks to the generousity of members of the Trinity community. In the future I hope we can do better. I won't be happy until there are no young men that can't go to Trinity for financial reasons. All of that financial aid is awarded in strict accordance with the letter and spirit of KHSAA rules. That means that athletics is not part of the equation. I know there are a lot of folks that don't believe that. I can't do much about that.

OK, half tuition can be covered by need based aid. This is given by the school through $$ raised and the parent has to come up with the other half. Can the parent volunteer and student use workstudy to cover that half or part of that half? Athletics may not come into the equation but boys DO go to Trinity to play football and if you stopped football enrollment would drop.

  13. OK...let's just break this down. First, "if they can't afford it" is PURELY subjective. Here's a hypothetical example.

    Parents-2

    Parent's Salaries-Mom-25,000.00; Dad-25,000.00-Combined: $50,000.

Assume they live modestly: Reasonable mortgage, a used car, etc.

    Assume the tuition is $10K

Assume they receive a need based tuition assistance award of $1500. Tuition is now $8500/year

Assume they make their payments over 12 months to the school (lowers the cost/month): Tuition is now $708.33/month

As you can see, a family can afford the tuition if the family chooses to live modestly, foregoing new cars, a bigger house, eating out, expensive vacations, tons of new clothes, etc.

From my own personal experience, I personally made less than $40K when paying tuition, and worked 2 jobs to do make that. And for 2 years I had 2 kids in 2 different schools...couldn't even get the "family" discount.

You cannot look at a situation and say "there's no way they could afford that". You have no idea. Maybe they've been saving for years and have a good chunk put away already for the tuition. Maybe they've foregone a lot of luxuries they could have had. Maybe they don't have that big screen HDTV.

Obviously if a family CAN afford, cars, luxury vacations, big scrren tv's they can probably affort tuition. What if I'm a single mother, on welfare, of an 8 year old, 11 year old and 16 year old who happens to be an excellent football player? I want my 16 year old to go to Trinity to further his education and his athletic experience. Will he A. be turned down. B. Simple go for free or C. will tuition be covered by some other means?

  14. Congrats Rocks on a Great Year. Welcome to the new district next year with Male, Manual and St X, along with probably Elder and Cincy St X on the schedule as well. Does any of your sophomores need an agent? My buddy Cam Newton knows somebody.....

I had read on another thread T was NOT playing Elder or CincyX.
