  1. I hear these commercials a lot -- is anybody winning money?

I'm thinking about seeing what it's about but don't know enough about it. Most of the guys in my fantasy league seem to make pretty solid moves and I thought about trying to follow those moves with a DraftKings account. If I do it, I'll let you know how it goes.

  2. Hopefully he was well prepared with the big picture in mind.

I'm sure it's one of those situations that they knew would be brought up when taking the interview, and I'm guessing his people had him prepared for it.

I think he came off well enough. We're talking about a guy who was accepted into Stanford out of high school and got a respectable 26 on the Wonderlic, which is probably as telling about his makeup as anything else.

  3. How does everyone feel about Devon Travis and Dalton Pompey of Toronto?

Thanks to everyone's suggestions, my pitching is stacked. So stacked that I don't know who to drop (I picked up Joba for holds, which our league does and of which I have 0).

Here's my lineup for next week. Any suggestions on adding some power that I'm lacking (namely HRs and RBIs)?

I'm trying to trade some pitching for hitting, so any suggestions on some guys who'd be good buy-low, sell-high would be greatly appreciated.

  4. I really enjoy Thursday night games. One you get a chance to watch a game you otherwise wouldn't watch and two it is the only show in town so you can focus on the game if that is your cup of tea.

Frankly, with NFL Redzone, unless something is a big game it is hard to get the channel off Red Zone.

Totally agree Ru. Red Zone is the best invention since ice cream. The announcer (Hanson I think) does a great job and if you are into fantasy football at all, it is a must.

Don't have Redzone, but my brother does and he loves it. Once I have more steady checks coming in, it's something I'm going to try and get, but right now it's too high as part of my cable package.

Happy to get the SEC Network and in my TV market, you have to take the Longhorn Network and "college" package, which is enough as is, plus most of the pro sports are broken up (i.e., NFL package, NBA package, MLB package).

Don't know if it's like this in other places, but in certain zip codes here, you basically only have one option for a cable provider. If you are renting like I am, a satellite is basically out of the question, so AT&T has the market cornered.

  5. Winston explains crab legs incident - ESPN Video

Was a bit surprised that nobody had mentioned this one yet, but James spoke with Jim Harbaugh and explained the situation, and honestly, I think it made sense on a lot of levels. Obviously, Jameis should have known that the employee probably wasn't authorized to just give him all of that by management, but it also isn't as if he snatched them when no one was looking, hid them under his jacket and tried to sneak out of the store.

I've always thought that this was an issue where he was either given them by a store employee, but honestly thought that the most likely scenario was that it was some kind of set-up (Florida fans are crazy and a guy did just that to Todd Gurley).

In any event, I think people who thought that he was trying to shoplift them without any employees knowing are probably realizing that's not how things went down. I've always felt that someone in the store had to be in on it because I don't know any chain supermarket like Publix that sells delicacies like seafood and just has everything sitting out in the open-- in most cases it's handled by an employee who picks them out for you, wraps and weighs them, etc.

  6. I got the poster from the UK/Florida game and paid to have him sign it. I really don't do that a lot but couldn't pass it up with him. Got a pic and they have me a certificate of authenticity, I guess in case I want to sell it.

Hopefully he will win a few NBA championships in his career and it will increase its value lol

That's awesome. I have a feeling it will only go up. Awesome banner for the man cave.

  7. Its this poster. People were paying a lot of money on eBay for them. Mine is in a nice frame and signed. I like it.

    Who wouldn't?

Legit, that is an awesome find. That one would legit seek a ransom if you sold it as far as autographs go. There was a debate in the pro forum about whether Davis or Durant was the best player in the NBA right now. Definitely a once in a generation player who is a very popular pro.

  8. I'm talking the ones who have made money (Noel, Davis, Jones)

If they do it for free, then everyone's bothering them for them and all that. I just don't see the whatever about people just having to sign free autographs (which you know they'd be asked for). It probably gets old and tiring having to sign your name all the time.

  9. Tell me more about Maze Stallworth.

Played at John Hardin and took them to their first state tournament, then on to Morehead State (IIRC, he was on most of the Faried teams). He has the most 3's made in Morehead State history and made it as far as the NBADL.

He was also an assistant at St. Catherine's College at one point. More recently, he was the head coach of Team Manimal during AAU, and they seem to be doing pretty well so far.

This past season, he was the head coach at Casey County High School last season, his second as a high school head coach. I saw them play at the Lexington Catholic holiday tournament, and while they weren't the most talented team, he seemed to get plenty out of them.

I can see why he'd be an attractive young candidate for lots of schools. He played in both college and the NBADL, has been a college assistant, and has been a head coach of a successful AAU program, so it isn't as if he's some guy from AAU who has latched onto kids in hopes of getting an in for a high school job.

The biggest knock on him is probably going to be that he doesn't have a ton of head coaching experience, but that doesn't mean I think he'd be a bad coach (again, his Casey County team looked fine given what he had to work with and I don't really know how much more anyone else would have gotten out of them), but I'd say that he's a guy whose staff is probably going to be important until he gets a few more years under his belt.

  10. I think it's cool to get autographs, especially for the kids, but I'll be darned if I ever pay a $20 spot for a signature. And don't get me wrong, if there's a market for it, they have the right to make the money. It just won't be from me. I think what bothers me the most is when NBA players come back to Kentucky and charge for autograph stops.

I agree with all of what you've said, save the bolded. Why does it bother you when NBA players come back to Kentucky and charge for autograph stops?

To me, it's not like they owe it to fans to go do free signings, especially when lots of those would inevitably be sold online by the person who got it for nothing. One of the worst parts about having that degree of recognition would be that you couldn't go do normal things without people hounding you for pictures and autographs. I'm sure it gets pretty old to them, and for me, if you really want it bad enough, paying for it is a fair way to compensate them for the time/aggravation.

All that said, the only autograph I want for myself that I'd actually pay for would be something signed by Cousins. Davis would be cool because it's probably going to be worth so much, so I'd pay for his as well, but probably hold onto it and sell it to some collector or something if the profit were right.

  11. I paid to get the Anthony Davis poster everyone went crazy about autographed, as well as a basketball.

Haven't ever paid for one before that and probably won't again.

I do like autographs. I think it's a neat thing to have in a den/sports/man room.

    Agreed on all of that.

If nothing else, I'm sure you could turn a nice profit on the Davis autograph given the way he's blown up.

I have a Patrick Patterson and MKG autograph. I got each cheap and a picture of myself with Patterson while he's signing the ball. MKG's is an autographed pic of him cutting down the nets for #8 . I have a football autographed by most of the 2007 team from fan day as well, but those were free.

One day, things like those and a stuffed bobcat/wildcat that I have, and some memorabilia like the "Measure Up To Big Cuz" insert from the Herald Leader and small things like a print of the corner of Woodland and Euclid after the '96 title will be in my office/man cave.

The only autograph that I would want to add to that which I'd pay money for would be a DeMarcus Cousins signature on some UK memorabilia.

  12. The problem is not exactly AAU per say. Its the loss of morality and the state of society as a whole thats affecting all this. The problems are much deeper than just AAU.

Agreed that problems are much deeper than AAU, but I did think it's telling that I was talking about how much he talked back to coaches, showed his frustration on the court, etc. To me, those things imply a lack of discipline. I wrote about that nearly a month ago, and now it looks like there was possibly something to that.

He was also cited in a place that was ~40 miles south of Dallas, but the high school he attended was in the 'burbs of North

Dallas. With all the movement on his team and all that, I wouldn't be surprised at all to learn that the place he was cited is/was much closer to where he'd actually lived.

All that said, the majority of the charges were no longer listed by this afternoon. Per the link above:

"The online records showed that Jamabo was charged with evading arrest with a vehicle. Earlier Sunday, those records had listed several other charges, including disregarding a stop sign, minor consumption of alcohol, minor in possession of alcohol, driving without possessing a driver's license and speeding, but those charges were no longer listed by the afternoon."
