  1. True. My point is that there will be someone higher on the ladder than GC if you look at past history. However, what I'm concerned about is this; What will the GC faithful say if this standout group of kids doesn't make it to Rupp? Will they call for Fraley's head?

No, Fraley is a quality coach and will keep them on the right track with the support of everyone involved.

  2. The administration, coaching staff and community all play a vital role in the success of a football program. The talent is present and there is no reason Greenup could and should be competitive. A huge problem for Greenup is the loss of some very talented players in recent history(Troxler, Reed, Beach, Terry) to the highly successful Rams. Hopefully, Mr. Baker will keep this in mind when hiring the next head coach.

  3. The powers that be need to go after who they want whether they say they have or haven't approached anyone. Don't sit back and wait on applicants, go tell them that "We want you."

I agree and when that person is decided upon he needs to be given all the tools that it takes to make a program successful and not be handcuffed at the knees or you are just setting the program up for continued failure. I truly believe that is one of the main reasons our program has a 41% winning average.

  4. Now, let's try this again without bashing anyone.

I was told today that the site base council, Matt Baker and Chris Alister will be the ones to interview for the position in early January with Matt making the final decision on the position. No one has been contacted yet by the administration, however I am sure there are some folks they are going to go after very hard after the playoffs are over. Anyone that is interested needs to officially apply at the BOE.

  5. Unbelievable, truly... Everyone has their strength and weaknesses, who are we to put someone down for not doing a certain thing during the week after 2 p.m. Maybe that person doesn't want to be around some of the people involved in that activity because they don't want to hear all the negative talk or maybe they are doing other things behind the scenes that no one really knows about just maybe they have some personal issues that are keeping them from doing what they really want to do. Why would you talk negative about anyone until you are in their shoes. I was always told if you can't say anything good, don't say anything at all unless you face the issue/person head on with what you have to say negative about that person or issue. All of this negative talk about Rister and anyone else is the exact reason the football program has been in the shape it has been and that attitude has got to change or our program at GCHS will never change no matter who is in charge of the program. I do now as of this afternoon have full confidence in Matt Baker and Chris Alister to hire the right person for this position and I mean that, they know what they are up against in our community, Matt has hired a great baseball coach and a great baskteball coach, I look for him to do the same with the football program but until this type of attitude changes that surrounds the program, GCHS football will not improve, this is truly sad.

  6. I can tell you one thing about Coach Fraley, after refn his games when he came to play top competition in Lexington at the holiday tournaments, he gets his team ready, is a class act on the floor with the refs (he gets his points across in a professional manner), Greenup County is very fortunate to have this type of coach in charge of the basketball program.

  7. Hey, I just glad Rob did the power point presentation instead of getting on here calling some GC parents cancer or telling a mom she never wore a jockstrap. Rob does have a point, we need to improve the GC football facilities. :D

If you take a look at this power point Rob did the stats don't lie about our program at GCHS. We need to hire someone that will come in and lay the law down and have full support of the administration and the community. It would ideally be someone from outside of the program that has been part of a winning tradition and a strong disciplinarian, a Jake Bell type of a coach in that aspect.

  8. I have previously posted on the Greenup basketball thread about the fact that the school motto and the absence of it since the early '80's. But I do not think it is fair to jump on Mr. Rister. Coach Sammons was hired , what, 4 years ago and I don't think the need for a power point was necessary. However, the administration has chosen not to support the Coach and now the search is on for a new coach. I applaud Mr. Rister on presenting information to try and reverse the 'old way' of hiring a coach. The school needs to be proactive and aggressive towards finding a new coach and the new coach needs newer facilities and equipment, etc. So to question why the presentation was done now and not two years ago is not a worthy argument. The case is that no one has ever presented to or ask the BOE for the newer ways to think or had any input on how to go get a new coach. In my opinion, someone should be doing the search, i.e the AD, because they are sports related. What do any of the current board members know about coaching or who would make a good coach? NFL owners hire the new coach but they have advisors and a GM that tell them who will be a good fit for the program. So, maybe, just maybe this step taken by Mr. Rister will start the proverbial ball rolling in the right direction.

Let's not bash someone or call them names or assume alterior motives just because he took the time and cares enough about the school to put this together. I do agree with one thing, parents and school administrators and fans in general need to be more involved and trying to 'do their part' in order for the program to sustain a sucessful status. That brings up one last point, 1 winning season is not a turn around, it is 1 winning season. Sustain a positive turn around with multiple good years and add in some district crowns as well. The pieces are there, they just need someone to work the puzzle.

  9. Greenup beat Rock? I dont think so, if that's what you are refering to here recpark.

I think it will be a better game than you folks think it will be, Rockcastle has great tradition and a solid football team but GCHS is starting to click on all cylinders and have some young talented players that are getting confidence each game and I do look for it to be a close ball game.

  10. Rockcastle County will open with an eminently winnable game at Greenup County, but would have to travel to Bell County for the second round.

Mercer County will get the bottom-finisher in the tiebreaker between Letcher, Clay and Perry (likely Perry Central). A second round game would be with the tiebreaker winner or Southwestern. I think Mercer County could make a run at the state semifinals, but I don't like the way they are playing right now. Four losses in five games (albeit to good competition) is not a good way to finish.

Don't count your chickens before they hatch.
