  1. I'm sorry but I guess where differences of opinion come into play. I just think he has problems with calling games the same on both ends of the floor.

Sugardaddy, what is your beef with Bo Queen, he has never, ever as long as I have known him and officiated with him not called the game right down the middle of the line, period. We all make mistakes and miss calls but I can guarantee you we don't miss them on purpose and we feel just as bad about a blown call as the fans that think we cheated them, so please don't insinuate that he or any other ref that I personally know would do anything of the sort of thing insinuated, we are in it to give something back to the sport we love, to give the kids a far shot and we could care less who wins as long as they have a fair playing field/court:thumb: and that is just the truth...

  2. All true statements.... but everyone needs to understand that even a bunch of telented juniors, are still just that.... juniors... GC can be about 6-5 next year, best case scenario... with the right coaches in place... people just need to stay positive, support the staff and great things can happen...

BigDaddy, I like your positive attitude, that shows me that the GCHS staff at the school is serious about what we need done and I for one appreciate that very much, count on my commitment to do whatever it takes to assist.

  3. How many Seniors, Juniors and Sophmores are projected to return for next season?

39 players returning with a really good junior class coming in, they dominated at the Freshman level and only lost to Ashland when they were Freshman in JV and Freshman ball, a lot of talent if they stay together and that will all depend on our coach that we bring into GCHS, I really think the future is very bright.

The really good thing is there are a lot of great athletes walking the halls at GCHS too and the right coach will bring them out too.

  4. I keep hearing all this money flashed around - but who is going to support the daily needs of the team i.e. cleats, arm bands, coaches shirts & hats, etc.? And where is the money coming from for a new position a strength coach and what type of transportation are you talking about? Isn't this a little a head of us right now?

No it's not ahead of us it is called progress and myself and a couple of other parents will volunteer their time to pick up the kids.

  5. I am not so sure about the "cop out" comment. There has to be a "commitment to Excellence" attitude in the boys and from those around them. That means when there is Spring practice, have your butt there. When Summer practice is going on, have your butt there. When you have a weight program in the winter, have your butt there. If you are allowing your kids to play, have their butts there when they are suppose to be there. If you have an "I don't care" attitude about your kid, don't waste eveyone's time by allowing him to come out for the team, because YOU will let everyone else down that is depending on him. Jmho.

I agree, the cop out remark was made toward the excuse of all the other teams around us having a loosing record, that is a cop out..

  6. How are the football players being fit into the mix since coming out?

Yes they are in the mix and the sophomores, they are going head to head with the varsity players, they are on the JV squad but Rister and Lyle are making the play a lot more physical on the varsity players, they are going at it in practice, hard...

  7. Just found out that GCHS has ordered $45,000 in new weight room equipment and going to move it from it's current location and turn that facility into a varsity locker room and also at the next BOE meeting I think $27,000 is going to get approved to put new sprinklers on the field, as well as adding a new crown, and putting Bermuda grass on the field, I would personally like to see turf but we have a plan for that too. We are going to work on the other facilities as well, bleachers, etc, I was also told that GCHS is hiring a strength coach if they haven't already for the entire athletic program... When we get our head coach he will also have input in what he wants for his facilities, Matt and Chris are going to be completely supportive of whomever they hire. They are going to be aggressive in their search, we will hear more rumors about folks being contacted but just because they have been contacted doesn't mean anything is official or promised to them. They want a strong pool of applicants to interview. All you coaches out there that are reading this thread, if you think you can make a positive difference and want to turn a program around, well right now is the time, the support will be there, the BOE will be behind you, times are changing at GCHS, apply for this position.

We will also be giving kids rides to and from practice every day so if a kid wants to play he will have a ride.

  8. I keep hearing about GC only having a 41.0 percent winning percentage, let's take a look at all the schools in the area. I believe they all would have a hard time breaching the 41% total. East Carter, West Carter, Lewis County, Fleeming County, Rowan County, Boyd County, Morgan County, Bath County, Fairview, Lawrence County and even Johnson Central had a rough time a few years back. The point is it's tough on all these schools. Folks, they are county schools and the culture of our county schools has changed in the past 15 years. Someone correct me if I'm wrong but the only schools in our area that has had strong football programs for the past 20 years are the independent schools: Ashland, Russell and Raceland. As far as revamping the football facilities, that would be great. The BOE has not revamped any of the other sports programs, but they have started in the right direction, they have an excellent high school. Things won't change overnight, so allow the right people to make good choices and don't get bent out of shape if the choices are yours. Thats' the first step in change.

That is a cop out and I don't buy it, there is no reason not to have a winning tradition, why do you think Raceland and Russell do, because kids that want to play at a winning tradition go and play there. If we keep this attitude then we will continue to have a 41% winning percentage...

  9. I've read a lot of posts calling for a "disciplinarian"... the problem is everyone wants a disciplinarian until their kid is disciplined... or more accurately, until some "key" parents are told they can't do something that they want to do...

That's what we need Bigdaddy, plain and simple, he needs to come in and say this is my team, this is the way it is going to be, the first time someone says something to him about playing time, he needs to tell them to take their kid and hit the road, no matter who it is, that is what needs to happen.:thumb:

  10. There is no question that lights are needed... sometimes they don't even stay on during games.... anyone remember the Ironton-Raceland scrimmage a few years ago??? Or the GC vs. Sheldon Clark game a few years ago... I thought Matney was going to have a stroke.....just remember these improvements are extremely expensive and are BOE and supt. decisions.... not building admin. decisions....:ylsuper:

The BOE has told me they have the money and will vote to give it to the program if asked and there is justification behind it and all they need to do is look. We need someone that will come in and take charge and have complete control over the program, from the JFL all the way up the chain and have FULL support of the Admin, not 3.5 years and then tell them see you later, not just a hand full of assistants paid, give him as many as he needs and wants, need the school's grounds crew to do work on the field, a new facility with turf (bermuda is good for somewhere more south) the entire program needs an overhaul and it is going to take a strong disciplinarian with a very strong football background to get the job done. I would venture to say that while we have heard some good names of coaches on this post but I would bet we have not even heard the name of the person that gets the job as of yet...

  11. As of now, yes Elliott and East are without a doubt favorites. IMO Elliott and East are at their peaks though and i dont think they can or will get much better. Greenup on the other hand has alot of growing in them! Expecially with all the young talent they have on the team and they will grow as the season progresses and come tourny time GC will be up with Elliott and East carter!!

They will be able to compete with those two this year as the season builds but they are going to have to really improve to be able to beat Elliot, I have seen them play up close and personal, they are one of the best teams in the state, no doubt, now saying that I do believe that GCHS will eventually be the team to beat in the 16th, maybe not this year but watch out the next two...

  12. There are a lot of posts on here with very little insight. We have a number of posts stating change is near, soon and coming quickly. We have posts that state it will be January. We have people bashing coaches for who knows why and they are just names brought up and possible good fits and people bashed for presenting information to the board.

I think it is good to bring up names of who you think would do a good job. I strongly disagree with people speaking negatively against the people being brought up. What is wrong with just stating you disagree with Coach A coming or you think Coach B is not a good fit in your opinion? But stating personal beefs or just not liking someone for their clothes or where they used to coach and/or left is down right disrespectful.

The way people are posting on this thread and the previous one that I started and Ram had to lock are the exact reasons that it is hard to find a coach or keep one.

Now, when are we going to discuss the coaching possibilities in a constructive manner? When this occurs, I'll start posting again. I am friends with Coach Preston and he does not deserve to be spoken about in this manner. As a matter of fact, some owe him an apology. I have spoken to him myself to apologize, just because my post made it look I was bashing him, too. This would not have been necessary if people were not "under armouring" him and the like.

Greg is a friend of mine too, great post Doc, this type of thing is the Exact reason GCHS football is in the shape it is in today...:irked:

  13. Can Greenup develop a football powerhouse? Just wondering if it could attract a big name coach or not? Not knocking their program just wonder if the talent is their and support of the administration is there?

The talent is there, strong sophomore class and some young players coming up always through the JFL (we have great coaches at that level for the most part), however because of the program's issues through the years some of that talent has gone to other schools in the county. The right person comes in and gets all the talent in the school to come out there is most definitely potential. There were a lot of athletes walking the halls during football season.

  14. I agree, the new coach has to have the support of everone involved. I wonder, though, when it is mentioned that Sammons did not recieve the support of the administration, are we talking money??? (for equipment, travel, etc.)

Don't know about that but I would guess, again, that he had to deal with everything the rest of the coaches dealt with before him, just look at the facilities, weight room, field nothing's been done to them worth mentioning...

The nay sayers may believe that the political situation at Greenup can not change, but perhaps with new leaders at the top this is possible. For starters, how about closed practices or not letting dads in the locker room. Is Greenup the only school where the parents are mowing and painting the Field? Shouldn't the administration step up and take responsibility for maintaining the field? Purchasing uniforms? Taking charge of these types of things would show "support" for the new coach and also take the power out of the hands of some of the sideline coaches (parents.)

    Great point!:thumb:

  15. Don't feel too sorry for Coach Maynard, he's in a much better situation right now. The names I've been hearing are Coach Dowdy, Tackett and I think people are holding out a prayer for Coach Maynard's return. There's been talk of a coach from Ohio, just don't know who.

There are more coaches than those mentioned interested in the position. When the playoffs are over, they will start coming out if our admin gives the coach all the support needed to bring this program where it should be...
