  1. TJ is a great coach, no doubt but I would venture to say he had to deal with the same things that have been going on at our program for years, that is probably one reason he doesn't want to come back, don't know TJ very well, just a hypothesis. That being said we need a Big change in every aspect, when this coach is hired, everone needs to give him the support needed to get his program on the right track, again 41% winning for the life of the program is not a successful program. If we don't give this coach everything he needs to be successful, we will have continued failure no matter how good of a coach he truly is, we have had some great coaches but the football program has been the redheaded step child at the high school, stats and history don't lie.

  2. The new coach, or hopefully one of his qualified assistants, will need to bring a focus on defense. This is one area that could see some impovement with practice on hitting and tackling. Very little practice time, under Sammons, was spent on defense. The boys have a great deal of talent, and most have played together since their early JFL days. I saw alot of bad tackles this year...

One other suggestion is that the new coach be required to get involved with JFL and the Middle school programs. When TJ was here he went to the JFL and middle school games and practices. He shared information and was there to encourage the "young musketeers in training." Sammons never left the High School. :walk:

As for all the negativity, and boy there is more politics here than I have ever seen in my life, I really hope it will change. There are quite a few parents who were discouraged from volunteering because of this.

    Great post!:thumb:

  3. Sammons absolutely deserves credit for the nice playoff run last year... he put in a nice little 2 back set with two good athletes on either side of Craft that was very hard to defend....I'm not that familier with Nathan McPeek.... but after what Gary did at GC, who can doubt the coaching bloodlines in that family..... come to think of it.... how about a second McPeek coaching at GC???

The new head coach will be given the opportunity to bring in some assistant coaches with him... hopefully this will help improve the applicant pool.... and for the record, Sammons was given the same opportunity but didn't take it...

How do you know Sammons was given the same opportunity? and in what ways? When was the last time anything was done to the facilities that is worthy of mentioning? How many of the folks around the program were cutting him at the knees, including some in the admin? My point being, things are going to have to change in every aspect of the GCHS program, attitudes by all involved, facilities need upgraded, and the support needs to be given in every aspect or there will be a continued 41% winning average in our program, that is the stat and that is the history, time for an overhaul in the entire program.

  4. Maybe I should have said, younger, inexperienced players.... I agree that there were some pretty good skill position players for GC.... I think the Musketeers could have a bright future with the right coach... they have a strong sophomore class... most of which will be starting next year as juniors.... those kids will need to step up bigtime... and need to get in the weightroom NOW!!!

Good post! And we need to hit that weight room right now, hard!:flame:

  5. 1. Preston was replaced by a first year teacher...

    2. the talent level at GC dropped dramatically from last year... they lost almost the entire offensive and defensive lines and their top 2 running backs....I also read some of your previous posts were you talked about GC being inexperienced.....

    3. we'll see how long McPeek keeps him around....

    4. what does a membership to the Greg Preston fan club cost??? figured I'd ask you, since you're obviously the president....

    5. I don't have anything personal against GP, he's a nice guy and a good family man... he's just not the guy for the job at GC

No bashing of anyone, please, or we will get shut down and as far as the talent level, it didn't drop dramatically in the skilled positions, yes, we were young but there was not a drop in talent, experience yes, raw talent absolutely not..

  6. IMO Greenup will be fine this year. They have alot of talent and a excellent coach. The only problem i can see with this GC team would be lack of confidence and inexperience. If nethier is an issue greenup will be the front runner in the 16th!

I agree, could be in the top eight in the 16th region by the end of the year, possibly semi-final contender

  7. Matt and the GCHS site base committee are going to have a lot of very qualified coaches to choose from since they are going to do a search. The word has spread through the KHSAA office and there are several very qualified coaches interested in interviewing for our coaching position that are from disciplined, traditionally winning programs throughout the tri-state and as soon as the state playoffs are over we will be hearing names. Change is coming if we want it! As I have stated in previous posts, we need to give this coach all the tools to succeed, from facilities, staff, to unwavering support from everyone in the community, including the administration, or we are just setting this coach and our program up for continued failure when it comes to winning.

  8. There are a number of people from inside the program who want Coach Preston(presently QB coach at Fairview). Know for a fact every kid on the team would play hard on every down for him. He's a good coach, experienced, has the personality to work with gc and the players want him there. The question is would he be interested???

He is very interested, know that for a fact.

  9. I would say recpark nows as good as anyone as he says in other threads that he officiates in the BBA. If recpark is who I think he is' date=' Him and Queen have several big games in the 10th and 11th. I would guess he wouldn't want to go out there with lesser officials when he can go with him.:thumb:[/quote']

You dad gone right, Diddy is the man!:thumb:

  10. I am sure he is glad your "differences of opinion DON'T come into play"!:sssh:

It is the coaches and Mr. Chasteen's opinions that count and from the looks of things, Bo Queen must be doing something right from the strength of the schedule he gets each year, and the districts and regional tournaments he has been assigned over the years. :D

    Very true!:thumb:

  11. Wow, the Sophomores are that good?

Yes, they are that good. I was at practice last night, Baker was shooting the lights out, Fraley was pumping his confidence, telling the entire team, "Baker is a shooter", I am jacked up about this team, young but have a ton of potential, Hampton and Williams are players, I'd like to see Trey go ahead and dunk it instead of laying it in, Coach will get him there.
