  1. I'm a fan of both teams ,and I agree. Another question I have is ,when a player is driving to the basket and releases the shot and makes it and then charges , should the goal count?

According to my good friend who is a referee, In high school if a player attemps and makes a shot before coming back to the floor and charges into a defensive player who is set. The basket it nullified and there is no freethrow attemps because of offensive team control:thumb:

  2. Teams – 1. Montgomery County, 2. Clark County, 3. Campbell County, 4. Scott, 5. Bishop Brossart, 6. Paris, 7. Bracken County, 8. Mason County, 9. St. Patrick, 10. Harrison County.

Top players – 1. Mackenzie Lee (Montgomery County), 2. Jewel Rogers (Clark County), 3. Katie Kitchen (Campbell County), 4. Lauren Tibbs (Scott), 5. Emily Hinkson (Paris), 6. Mary Jehlik (Montgomery County), 7. Preshia Rogers (Clark County), 8. Hannah Haight (Bracken County), 9. Cora Chamberlain (St. Patrick), 10. Keller Menke (Mason County).

Nice to see long time BBA referee John Chamberlain's Daughter Cora getting some props...:thumb:

  3. Thank you for the kind words. Yes Travis is a great kid and was looking forward to basketball season this year. He had a great summer in AAU. Morehead State has already offered a scholarship.

Here is a article from the Winchester paper.

Prep Basketball: GRC center out for season

    By Keith Taylor/Sun Sports Editor

The season hasn’t begun, but the George Rogers Clark boys basketball team has already lost one of its top returning players for the season.

Sophomore center Travis Purvis, 6-foot-7, 205 pounds, tore his ACL during a practice session Tuesday and will miss the rest of the season.

Sunrise Hope to see him back on the court next year stronger than ever.

Good kid and I am sure the cards will miss him this year.

  4. I'm sorry but I guess where differences of opinion come into play. I just think he has problems with calling games the same on both ends of the floor.

I am sure he is glad your "differences of opinion DON'T come into play"!:sssh:

It is the coaches and Mr. Chasteen's opinions that count and from the looks of things, Bo Queen must be doing something right from the strength of the schedule he gets each year, and the districts and regional tournaments he has been assigned over the years. :D

  5. I try to pick some of the best games of the week and will drive to see a great matchup..Where ever it might be..Not so much in the Louisville area or Western Ky area. I love the atmosphere in and around the 10th and 11th regions , But there are always some good matchups in the mountains too.

I just love watching good quality basketball games.

  6. Getting back on the subject and not bashing any of these guys, I would have to say over the years watching and observing the great game of basketball, You would have to go with alot of the guys that have done Regional Championships and State Tournaments. Are these always the best the state has to offer? No probably not. But I will have to say they are close.

to name a few around the state for the regions I watch the most..

1st thru 7th Not really familiar with.

8th Region Terry Coldiron, Sean Knollman, Mark Howell, Brian Sandlin

9th Region Tim O'hare, The vet Charlie Chappie Jon Campbell

    10th/11th look at previous post.

12th Region Tony Gray, Scott Bottoms

13th Region Not so Familiar but believe Mike Ashurst is back there

14th Region Mike Melton, Tommy Hutton, Glenn Napier

    15th Region Johnny Webb

16th Region Bob Hall, Bob Kuhns, Marla Gearhardt

Yea this is a big list but all are deserving of the fact they are Good Officials in their respective regions.

    :thumb::thumb::thumb:

  7. I would remove Bo Queen from this list and add the much improved Bart Lennox. Jerry Thornsbury has also been a class act through the years but I don't think son Erik is there yet. I believe Bart Lennox has collegiate aspirations so he may not be around much longer.

I would agree Bart Lenox is coming and going very quickly and IS one of the best, But to REMOVE Bo Queen from the list would be only your opinion. When talking to the coaches in the 10th and the 11th on who they like on the floor, his name is always mentioned. I think he has called a bunch of regional finals including three or four in a row in the Fieldhouse. Didn't work the finals last year because of Montgomery Co..

  8. :jump:In the 10th/11th or Bluegrass Basketball Association as they like to be refered to, There are several guys that are year in and year out at the top.

John Chamberlain, Although he is not calling again this year because of health reasons I have been told, Is the one that all the coaches want on their games. He gives it his all night in and night out no matter if he is in Lexington or if he is at Augusta.

The guys that have risen to the top the last couple of years and have worked alot of the big games all over the regions both in the 10th/11th and the regional tournament would be Bart Lenox, Cary Lyle, Don Werner, Bo Queen, J.T. Taylor ,Clayton Brooks and Kirk Hudson. These guys seem to be there at the end every year. I have heard that this may be Bart's last year as he may move on to strictly College...Good Luck Bart. You have done well..

Others you would include in the up and comers class are Royce Blevins, Eric Thornsberry, Terry Smith, and a few others I have seen work but just have not been able to get names for them..

Also some very good officials but seems to work alot of the girls games would be Jack Whittamore, Sherrianne Shuey, Kevin Smith, just to name a few..

I think the BBA by far is one of the strongest associations in the state of Ky. They have the strongest play night in and night out and overall work really hard for the kids.. There are several good officials in the other regions but from top to bottom the BBA is the best..;)
