  1. That was pretty cool. 2 thoughts though:

    1. Trinity is from Texas, not Hawaii, right?

    2. Plano has more cheerleaders than our 5A schools have players.

Trinity is from Texas, however there is a large population of Samoan immigrants in the Euless area. The Haka they do after every game is awesome, very similar to what Hawaii does.

  2. My comment is the lack of games against the GCL and Tennessee schools hurts in getting prepared for the GCL and the Tennessee schools. My other point is as long as T views the out of state games as "preparation" games, then the other Ky schools needs to step up and beat the teams to uphold and further Ky football. If UK can beat the national champions with a kid from Manual at WR, and a QB from North Hardin, along with a host of other players from Bluegrass Nation, then why can't we beat ( not compete!) the best regional teams in high school?

    Is it facilities?

Is it coaching? Is it the pre-high school development programs?

Is it talent? (Couch, Redman, Lorenzen, Brohm, Woodson, Bush at QB in the last few years, etc)

Is it the use of two way players versus 22 starters?

Or maybe we just don't believe we can beat them.

Having coached in Kentucky and now coaching in Texas, I would say these three are the reasons for a lack of victories by Kentucky schools over some teams from other states.

Texas high school football coaching is on another level. A lot of guys have college experience both as a player and coach and that makes a difference.

Any school that uses two way players will struggle against a team in the GCL that two platoons all of their guys. Fatigue makes cowards of us all and combined with the talent at these schools, the combination can make great teams look bad on a given night.

When Kentucky schools start having more success, then their will be that expectation of winning, which will lead to a different mindset during preparation and a better attitude going into a game. This can make the difference between winning and losing.

All of this said, I know I hopld Kentucky football in higher regard than a lot of posters on this site (based on comments in some other threads I have started). I believe Kentucky has some great programs that can compete nationally with other top programs. The question is depth. Highlands, X and Trinity can compete with almost anyone, and some of the smaller programs like Beechwood, NCC, Danville and Belfry can hang with any other small program in the country. The problem lies in that in Texas, there are 12 or so state champs in smaller classes that can compete with the smaller programs like Beechwood, NCC, Danville and Belfry and that doesn't include the top teams in those divisions, so there are probably like 40 or so teams in Texas at that level. You can say the same thing about the larger schools. I don't think the problem is at the top, it is in the lack of depth of great high school football teams in the state, overall.

  3. Couch threw thirty screen passes a game. And I'm not so sure that woodson had better recievers, remember Yeast? Now he was an athlete.

I'll see your Craig Yeast and raise you Steve Johnson, Dickie Lyons, Jacob Tamme, Keenan Burton and Rafael Little out of the backfield.

I still think Woodson is better, but he has a better skill position supporting cast than Couch had.

  4. Hmmm...

    1. Miami - Darren McFadden

    2. St. Louis - Glenn Dorsey

    3. Atlanta - Chris Long

    4. Oakland - Jake Long

    5. Kansas City - Matt Ryan

    6. Jets - Sedrick Ellis

    7. New England - James Laurinaitis

    8. Baltimore - Brian Brohm

    9. Cincinnati - Keith Rivers

    10. New Orleans - Mike Jenkins

    11. Buffalo - Derrick Harvey

    12. Denver - Vernon Gholston

    13. Carolina - Kenny Philips

    14. Chicago - Andre Woodson

    15. Detroit - Sam Baker

    16. Arizona - Malcolm Jenkins

    17. Minnesota - Malcolm Kelly

    18. Houston - DeSean Jackson

    19. Eagles - Dan Connor

    20. Bucs - Calais Cambell

    21. Washington - Jeff Oath

    22. Dallas - Aqib Talib

    23. Seattle - Early Doucet

    24. Pittsburgh - Bruce Davis

    25. Titans - Limas Sweed

    26. Giants - Ray Maualuga

    27. Chargers - Ali Highsmith

    28. Jaguars - Kentwan Balmer

    29. Packers - Barry Richardson

    30. Dallas - Tommy Blake

    31. 49ers - Mario Manningham

    32. Patriots - Ray Rice

You are missing some top talents, like Ryan Clady from Boise or Felix Jones from Arkansas. You have some guys way high too. Blakes stock has been WAY down!

I hope Maualuga lasts for the Giants! He is a BEAST!

  5. I don't think Jones will be there next year. The fans in Dallas can't stand him. Jones is an Ark grad and is crazy about McFadden supposedly. Not saying it's the best move but I am saying don't be suprised if it happens.

I'd go work on my DB situation if I was them but it will be interesting.

I live in Dallas. The fans like Julius fine, they just believe Barber is better, which he is. Dallas doesn't have what it takes to move up to get Run DMC, I believe.

However, you may be on to something. Jones is a Free-Agent and they need a change of pace, so Dallas takes Felix Jones from Arkansas. This is more likely.

  6. The only question mark I have on Brennan is his size. Will he be able to see over the NFL sized linemen. I believe he's more a product of the system. What's the scoop on that kid from Delaware? Never heard of him before.

He will be the hot QB name coming from the draft this year. I'm not as big on him as some other folks. He went to Pitt and could not beat out Tyler Palko, so he transferred to Delaware. He had a nice career there, winning a National Title.

Good size, good arm, he will need to distinguish himself at the combine, much like Woodson.

  7. How could a guy who had a year like he did, and win the Heisman not go in the first round? I may be an Ohio State fan, but that's just the facts. I know his size may have hurt him a litte but come on.

Charlie Ward asked the same question when he came out in the draft years ago. So did Danny Wuerfuel (sp). It happens. The NFL looks for a very specific type of QB and anyone outside of the mold gets left in the dust.
