CC Purple 6th and 7th grade LOST to Twenhofel tonight. The Purple 6th grade coach is a moron. He doesn't have a clue. His zone offense is pass it around until someone is open. He presses and watches the other team score basket after basket, but still presses. 6th grade purple beat Twenhofel by 23 last time, but this time they ran a box and 1 on Geiman. He only scored 5 in the first half with the team total at 8 - FOR THE HALF! In the second half Geiman scored 14 (4 - 3's), but no help from anyone on the floor = LOSS. Final score 28 - 25. McGovney started off strong, out jumping Racke for the tip, then making a ridiculous play where he chased down a loose ball showing off his quickness, then slashing to the bucket getting fouled on the way up. However, the 7th grade coach suffers the same condition as the 6th grade coach - He's a moron too! He only plays 5 kids (only 3 of them deserve to be on the floor)the majority of the game and wore them out, while Twenhofel played 9, maybe 10 staying fresh. He has a kid on his bench who can knock down shots and handle the ball, but doesn't play him because he thinks he's too small (5' guard) He'd rather play a kid who's 5' 4", can't dribble, can't shoot, can't play defense, can't rebound, doesn't have a clue, but he's taller. MORON! CCMS better get a clue or they will not be represented in the NKMSBL championship game at any division.

6th grade Purple should not have a problem with Twenhofel, winning last time by double digits. They did not have an answer for Schneider or Geiman. The only loss Purple had when Geiman's wrist was broke that they have not been able to avenge was to TRMS. They lost to them by 1 with Geiman in the lineup after losing by 20 without him. 6th grade tournament should come down to CC Purple and TRMS in the finals.

I have seen a number of references the last couple of days to individual team won/loss records this year; those records seem to include non league and tournament games. What are some of the 6th and 7th grade teams' league records? 7th Grade CC Purple is 7-5 in league play, 3 of their losses were close overtime losses and not included in the win column is 2 forfeits by one by Newport and St. Pius.

The roster for Sayre is impessive. IMO a true big man is all the Bulldogs are missing, however, your guard play is tough for the middle school and AAU level. Good luck at the state AAU tournament.

Southernkyhoops congratulations on your finals appearance at 6th grade state. As I said before, your Albany Bulldogs are an excellent team! I was actually shocked that you guys didn't win the tournament. Sayre must be tough or you guys had an off game??? I hope we are on opposite sides of the D2 bracket at the U12 AAU state. Again, Congratulations!

No offense 3BREDS2B, but the officiating at the Holmes on Saturday was pathetic. Clyde the glide doesn't blow his whistle and the other guy was asleep. I watched both 6th and 7th grade games and it was that way in both games. Titans coaches and Camels coaches were both barking and complaining about the refs. Clyde is horrible and shouldn't be reffing. He doesn't want to be there. He will always say "let's get this game over". If you don't want to be there, stay home! The Titans are athletic, but lack any shooters. As well they only shoot about 20% from the line. I think Highlands should get the W in the rematch.

Well, I'm not his parent or a school representative. I'm going off of 2nd party info. Regardless, they are going to have to play against the kid in high school. His name is not Michael Jordan or Lebron James or LaDanian Tomlinson. From what I am hearing, his school team is not overly dominating anyone. So regardless, I don't see the point of not playing all the schools across the board (Boone, Campbell, Kenton, Pendleton).

I heard the same thing and know the kid they are speaking about. He was held back for academic reasons. However, I heard that Boone County representatives didn't like the situation. I thought that was a fable and not the real story???

Can one of the smart gals/guys in the back explain to me why the Boone County School System doesn't play it's teams in the NKMSBL? It is perplexing...

They are fun to watch. McGovney made some ridiculous moves getting to the hole and then gingerly laying the ball off the glass after splitting 3 defenders! My favorite is when opposing coaches yell out to their players to make McGovney or Geiman go one way or the other when they dribble. McGovney is ambidextrous and Geiman shoots left but does everything else right so they think he's a lefty. Too bad the CCMS SBDM council wouldn't let them play together. On a side note, what was wrong with Kitchen last night?? He was very sensitive!

I agree it would be tough to teach in 2 - 3 weeks, however, middle school teams, ours anyway had practice 5 days a week for a month before games started and now practice 3 - 4 days a week during the season. I also agree that middle school should be building from year to year with skills that are taught, however, no middle school program works it's way up. Each coach kind of does there own thing and the 6th grade coach may be teach m2m fundamental then the 7th grade coach only pays zone. Smart high school coaches will work with middle school coaches to enforce teaching m2m defensive fundamentals from year to year as well as offensive fundamentals of pick n roll, give n go, back cuts, off ball picks, etc. It all comes from the top and if a high school wants to have a continuously competitive program they will require middle school coaches to do this. Highlands IMO does a good job of this. Schlarmann did the same thing when he was at Brossart in dealing with the St. Mary's coaches. The program at Boone will begin to become more of a force because of this. Unfortunately, my beloved dumba** Camels will never get this concept and always float in the oblivion of an okay or what could have been basketball program.

Moeves coaches AAU and Ted has coached AAU and school ball. The point of AAU is to collect talented players. The point of school ball is to play with the students you attend school with. Two different styles of ball. However, I have watched 4 school games this year and Grey played 2/3 zone the majority of the time and knowing the Ryle coach he has not given Ted any of his system or any middle school team coach for that matter.

He coached an AAU team last year - not sure about this year. Was never successful with AAU. Don't think I would give him credit for success at Grey. I've watched him over the past couple of years and he doesn't have good game management skills and his players didn't really possess strong fundamentals as is with most school ball coaches. You always hear school ball teaches fundamentals. But then you watch a school team play zone and full court zone press and wonder what defensive fundamentals they have learned. Where are the high school coaches? Why don't they demand that their middle school teams play man and nothing else? On offense, I haven't seen a good ball screen set yet this year and never do you see off ball screens in school ball and boxing out is a fabled story that is told over and over in school ball. Nothing against any particular coach but middle school bball coaches are lacking in NKY currently!

Any word when the tourney brackets will be out?? Purple 6th and 7th grade lost heartbreakers on Saturday at Holmes. While it shouldn't be an issue - the refing was horrible. Nothing to do with home cooking - it was just bad officiating. Clyde the Glide - not sure of his real name (clyde is his first name), just my nickname - has to be the worst ref in the area!

While that is some crap by the CC coach (who was not brought back), the 7th grade Gold team is totally different from that team. I would hope that adults wouldn't try to exact revenge on unwitting 7th graders. I could understand the players having a chip on their shoulder, but the exacting revenge because the color of the jersey is the same isn't exactly a stand-up position. That same type of idealogy caused alot of historical miscues over the past couple hundred years. The Birds should play their game and not worry about unreputable coaches who are no longer around. The Birds 7th grade will destroy the CC Gold team without much effort at all.

Interesting...CCMS Purple will have a tough time coming out of their bracket in 7th - The 6th grade purple should come out of their division. Their only losses were when Geiman was out with a broken wrist. 7th grade on the other hand - unless they clone McGovney or the coach figures out how to use his players efficiently (and quit playing that stupid 3-2 trap) - will be watching the championship.

Just got back from the Camels purple vs. Summitview. I watched the 6th and 7th grade play. The 6th grade Camels won by 2, 25 - 23. Logan Schneider (post player) and Garrett Geiman (point guard) were able to hold off a quick summitview team (must be something in the water). The 7th grade game was ugly. Summitview jumped out to a quick 12 point lead in the first half and never looked back. Although, the 7th grade's struggles were related to poor coaching. Pressed early and allowed a quick big lead and EASY buckets. McGovney was the only bright spot for the purple scoring 20 and being responsible for 10 more points. Summitview's 1st 5 are tough. Coach Mark Franzen seemed to revel in getting revenge on the purple squad from the Camel Classic loss. Anyone know the outcome of the 8th grade game???
