  1. The fabled Lexington Catholic has a U12 team at the KBA this weekend. Does anyone know anything about this team? I talked to the coach for the U12 NKY Wolfpack and he will have all 8 of his players for this weekend's tournament. Too bad the Legends, CKY Warriors or Tarheels aren't playing in this event. Considering when the 3 guards are together, the Wolfpack are averaging 55 points per game, they will be tough to handle for alot of teams at state.
  2. Just got back from the Camels purple vs. Summitview. I watched the 6th and 7th grade play. The 6th grade Camels won by 2, 25 - 23. Logan Schneider (post player) and Garrett Geiman (point guard) were able to hold off a quick summitview team (must be something in the water). The 7th grade game was ugly. Summitview jumped out to a quick 12 point lead in the first half and never looked back. Although, the 7th grade's struggles were related to poor coaching. Pressed early and allowed a quick big lead and EASY buckets. McGovney was the only bright spot for the purple scoring 20 and being responsible for 10 more points. Summitview's 1st 5 are tough. Coach Mark Franzen seemed to revel in getting revenge on the purple squad from the Camel Classic loss. Anyone know the outcome of the 8th grade game???
  3. The NKY Wolfpack play the Albany Bulldogs at 4:15 then the Lexington Panthers at 6:45 on Saturday. The Wolfpack beat the Panthers a couple of weeks ago by 15+ at the BCI. Should be fun to watch!
  4. KBA Winter Classic schedules aren't coming out until tomorrow. Anyone know who is playing in the different age groups??? I know Omega is playing in U10, Wolfpack will be represented in U11 and U12. Anyone know any teams for any divisions? Who are the players to be watching at this event? :dancingpa
  5. The Wolfpack 6th grade is playing at the KBA this coming weekend.
  6. My posts were more about the attitiude of some of the ref's. Refs are humans they are going to miss calls. But when a ref wants to soapbox or jaw with coaches, players or fans, that's when it's bad. Being a ref is choice. If you make that choice you must consider the consequences of that choice. If you don't like the consequences don't ref.
  7. The Legends are the real deal and can compete with the Warriors and Tarheels for D1 state. Our coaches and players did the best they could do with the limited squad. The Hoops facility is the best in the state and probably one of the nicest basketball facilities there is. It is definitely better than anything around here in terms of a basketball facility. You should definitely go there to play at least once.
  8. The streak came to an end for the 6th grade Wolfpack. Missing starters Nate Verst and Zac McNeil (because of school conflicts), the Wolfpack lost to the Legends bringing their record to 22 - 1. The final was 55 - 46 at HOOPS. The score at half was Wolfpack 27 - Legends 22. But with only 1 player on the bench, the Wolfpack ran out of gas in the 2nd half. Moeves and Geiman scored all 19 points in the 2nd half. It was only a 6 point deficit with a little over a minute remaining and the Wolfpack had to start fouling, then couldn't convert when they got the ball back. Moeves missed 2 wide open looks from 3 and Geiman had a "bomb" rim in and out.
  9. Are you talking about the CC Gold 7th grade? They haven't won a game yet. Unfortunately, at CCMS, except for McGovney and 1 or 2 others, our 7th grade has NO talent.
  10. Some of those "top" referees have to deal with the crazy coaches/fans of the 9th and 10th region whose antics are worse than any AAU coach or parent/fan. I see some of the same refs at 9th and 10th region games doing AAU games. I think the real reason why some ref's won't do AAU is because of money. A high school game pays double or triple what an AAU game pays. The ref's who have seniority get scheduled more for high school games, so they don't need to do AAU. The newer guys who want to make money have to do AAU and middle school ball. That's the real reason.
  11. I have ref'd close to 100 games in the past 3 years. Mostly AAU, some middle school stuff. I mainly have done it to help out. I would never choose to be a ref because I would not be able to handle the questioning of calls or the complaining by fans, however, that is a part of basketball. So if you are a ref and can't handle those things, you shouldn't ref. Every profession/hobby has it's pluses and minuses. It's too bad that some (not all) ref's choose to use their position as referee to antagonize coaches, player and parents with their ranting and jawing. I bet I could guess one of the ref's in HoopDr's post about the ref'ing at Summitview. On the flip side of that, I was at the XU beat down of Virginia last night. A ref made a horrible call against VA that brought the entire coaching staff up off the bench. Not one of those 3 refs on the floor even acknowledged the coaching staff, they focused on the game between the lines. Several times Sean Miller was jawing at the ref's. Not once did a ref spend more than 3 seconds acknowledging his displeasure. While college refs make 10 to 20 times more than an AAU/High school ref, there is a reason why they are at that level. If you talk to a college/semi pro ref, they will tell you they are taught to not acknowledge any fan or non-head coach who is not on the floor. That one principle should be practiced by all ref's regardless. A parent or non-head coach should never be removed from a game unless they physically attack someone. But too many times, ref's get caught up in flexing their muscle and ruin a perfectly good game. That's why I believe in getting up quick on a team and keeping your foot on the pedal as a coach. That way the ref's are in no way involved in the outcome of a game.
  12. Nah, I didn't mean to sound like it was an argument between you and me. That is just one issue that makes me boil - BCI refs! That is the one thing Dave needs to take control of!
  13. Just to clear up - being inconsistent or making bad calls is one thing. Being arrogant and flippant towards parents, coaches and players is what I'm talking about. It is a ridiculous standard that has been allowed to fester at the BCI. That's what makes the ref'ing bad, because then they do what they want and feel there is no repurcussions. As well, they talk smack to parents, players and coaches.
  14. I don't know the guys name, but I know who is handles that part of the gig. Dave has the final say so on all refs though.
  15. Dave is a great guy! No doubt! However, the you get what you pay for - is bunk. Each parent has to pay $5 per day to get in to these tournaments plus the concessions. It is the job of these tournament directors to put out a good product. And having to hear from the ref how great of a ref they are or how they know everything about basketball is a bunch hogwash! Most of those refs never played organized bball past middle school, let alone ref it. He needs to let his better refs do more games and cut out the garbage! When you have multiple parents from multiple teams talk about how bad of a job the ref does, that's a problem!
  16. BCI is only the place when nothing else is available. Unfortunately, they have the WORST refs in the area. Most of their refs AREN'T high school certified and typically want to tell you how great of refs they are. Our coach only plays there when nothing else is going on. Dave's a nice guy - but he needs to clean up the ref problem.
  17. AFIGUY - I know it's not part of the thread, but what about those muskies beating the crap out of Kansas State and former AAU standouts Bill Walker and Michael Beasley! Happy New Year! My boss, a K State Alumnus, is hating life - He had to pay 4 bets off in the office today.
  18. Word on the street is that Dave Clevenger, BCI, just took over the Sports of All Sorts location at Turfway. This should provide more local tournaments. There's also Sports Plus in Cincinnati and Kingdom Sports Center in Franklin, OH. KBA is having it's winter shootout 1/12 and 1/13 the fee is $95. This is usually a good look at potential state competition.
  19. An 8th grade team and the Louisville Suns, I think? I didn't know the Suns had a team anymore though.
  20. I didn't get to watch them play or even go to HOOPS. They lost both games from what I heard, which is shocking. I'm not sure who they played or what players they had available for the game. I think they only had 6 and were missing a couple of starters. In order for them to compete at state, their has to be more intensity from the bench.
  21. I've seen him play games against the Cincy Knights, The Ville, OBC and the Tarheels. In each and every game, he dominated. The Playmakers were the only team I personally witnessed beat the Ville. They didn't only beat them, they beat them by 10! The bottom line reason was that Quick was impossible to stop 1 on 1 or even 2 on 1 at times. The kid can play any spot on the floor offensively and defensively. When I heard he was going to the Ville, my initial thought was unbeatable. However, with the team that G'town Thunder has and a couple of other teams around the state, it may not be impossible to beat them, but improbable is more likely.
  22. Do they have some kids from the Truth?? Is it the same ball club from last year or did you see new kids?
