  1. Some others that I liked, although they probably aren't "greatest of all-time" material:

The Munsters and The Addams Family. I believe that Herman and Lily were the first couple to be shown sharing a bed on American television.

    The Wonder Years.

    Alice.

The Bob Newhart Show (I'm Larry, this is my brother Darryl, and this is my other brother Darryl).

Get Smart (Sorry about that, Chief).

    Welcome Back Kotter.

Actually, that was not "The Bob Newhart Show". What you are referring to was the sitcom simply named "Newhart".

However, "Newhart" had the best series ending of any sitcom (or any show for that matter) I have ever seen. The last seen of the final episode Bob wakes up in bed with Susan Pleshette on the set of the old "The Bob Newhart Show" telling her that he had this nightmare where he was an inn keeper in Vermont and there were these brothers, and .....

  2. Oh don't get me wrong. I totally agree with busting these police officers chops. And I'm not excusing their behavior, but if the public knew all the crud that police officers have to deal with we may be a bit more "understanding" of why they sometimes crack and do these types of unacceptable things. Every time I hear a teacher complain of low pay, I immediately think of what police officers get paid, the risks they incur and garbage they have to deal with to get that meager pay.
I concur, but no amount of verbal abuse can excuse this type of action. I know many fine Hillsborough and Pinellas County Sheriff's Deputies. I have a retired Largo PD officer in the family. I respect few people more than I do a man or woman who would carry a badge. None of those I've talked to since this was shown on local TV last night, have any feeling other than disgust for this incident.

Even if Sterner had physically abused the deputy, she had no excuse to do what she did. Especially, not with that many officers around her who could help. I saw no weapon on Sterner in the video.

Even if she cracked, as you suggest, the fact that her supervisors did nothing speaks volumes. LN, you're a marine. Doesn't there appear to be a major lack of discipline from the top down, here? There may very well be more to the story, but what could he have done to deserve this?

Even if there is some kind of valid justification for Deputy Marshall-Jones to do such a thing, this type of reaction just makes all law enforcement officers' jobs harder.

  3. I assume that you are talking about Kevin Smith, if so he is already a Junior.
Kevin Smith declared for the draft and won't be back for his Senior season. Curtis Francis was a Senior and Phillip Smith was 3rd on the depth chart last year. I don't know too much about UCF's other backs, but the Knights may be an option. Allen is from Tampa (Jesuit - 3A).

Too bad the Bulls can't get him. It'd be nice to have a good power back like him along with Mike Ford and Jamar Taylor.

  4. Here we go....

Looks like the sales tax will be going up. I'll take user fees over property taxes any day.

  5. What's on Prop 1, Swampy?

    NO. 1

    CONSTITUTIONAL REVISION

    ARTICLE VII, SECTIONS 3, 4, AND 6

    ARTICLE XII, SECTION 27

    (Legislative)

Property Tax Exemptions; Limitations On Property Tax Assessments

This revision proposes changes to the State Constitution relating to property taxation.

With respect to homestead property, this revision: (1) increases the homestead

exemption except for school district taxes and (2) allows homestead property owners to

transfer up to $500,000 of their Save-Our-Homes benefits to their next homestead. With

respect to nonhomestead property, this revision (3) provides a $25,000 exemption for

tangible personal property and (4) limits assessment increases for specified

nonhomestead real property except for school district taxes.

    In more detail, this revision:

    (1) Increases the homestead exemption by exempting the assessed value

between $50,000 and $75,000. This exemption does not apply to school district taxes.

    (2) Provides for the transfer of accumulated Save-Our-Homes benefits.

Homestead property owners will be able to transfer their Save-Our-Homes benefit to a

new homestead within 1 year and not more than 2 years after relinquishing their

previous homestead; except, if this revision is approved by the electors in January of

2008 and if the new homestead is established on January 1, 2008, the previous

homestead must have been relinquished in 2007. If the new homestead has a higher

just value than the previous one, the accumulated benefit can be transferred; if the new

homestead has a lower just value, the amount of benefit transferred will be reduced.

The transferred benefit may not exceed $500,000. This provision applies to all taxes.

    (3) Authorizes an exemption from property taxes of $25,000 of assessed value

of tangible personal property. This provision applies to all taxes.

    (4) Limits the assessment increases for specified nonhomestead real property

to 10 percent each year. Property will be assessed at just value following an

improvement, as defined by general law, and may be assessed at just value following a

change of ownership or control if provided by general law. This limitation does not apply

to school district taxes. This limitation is repealed effective January 1, 2019, unless

renewed by a vote of the electors in the general election held in 2018.

    Further, this revision:

    a. Repeals obsolete language on the homestead exemption when it was less

than $25,000 and did not apply uniformly to property taxes levied by all local

    governments.

    b. Provides for homestead exemptions to be repealed if a future constitutional

amendment provides for assessment of homesteads "at less than just value" rather than

as currently provided "at a specified percentage" of just value.

    c. Schedules the changes to take effect upon approval by the electors and

operate retroactively to January 1, 2008, if approved in a special election held on

January 29, 2008, or to take effect January 1, 2009, if approved in the general election

held in November of 2008. The limitation on annual assessment increases for specified

real property shall first apply to the 2009 tax roll if this revision is approved in a special

election held on January 29, 2008, or shall first apply to the 2010 tax roll if this revision

is approved in the general election held in November of 2008.

  6. When the uncut version was on HBO, I fell asleep. My daughter thinks he's great.

I don't like watching him at all. His body language, his tone, his voice ... all arrogance personified. I feel like he's saying, "Laugh you poor schlep, because I am the comedian extraordinare." He's not funny to me. A complete and utter turn off.

  7. I wouldn't like it if I was the 1 seed. But if I was the 16th seed I would be glad to have a shot.
USF (my guys) will probably finish no better than 15th, and I really do not want to expand the tourney.

Making that 12th seed is a goal a lower tier team can set and obtain. A stepping stone, if you will. That is actually a goal of the Bulls, but it's doubtful they'll make it. I think it hurts the school more getting beat down again buy the 1st or 2nd seed team. This time it will be on national TV. Don't see where that helps.

  8. I don't think so. In the case of the Apple 8G Ipod Nano, the Product Red version cost the same as the other available colors. Therefore it appears that Apple is actually giving a cut of their normal profit on those Ipods to the fund, rather than marking up the Product Red version.
Ya, right. You keep believing that.

BTW, I don't mind them passing a cost like this to the consumer. This happens to be good business. It results in a system that works more like the "Fair Tax".

However, please don't be blinded by the symbolism. With tax breaks for charitable contributions and an overall increase of prices on all product lines, I guarantee you, the corporations involved are not really taking a hit on this.
