  1. Good seeing you by the way and like you said, these two teams I have a feeling will meet in the finals of their conference tourney as they look to be the best in the East Conf.

Does anyone know the bracket format for the tourney? Don't count the CC purples out quite yet.

  2. It was a good game, Twenhofel was up about ten the whole game then almost let it slip out from under them. #20 for CC, who is a real good ball player, hit 1-2 from the line to put it in to overtime with .7 seconds left. A lot of bad bad calls, but overall the teams kept their heads and played well. #20 for CC ended with 19 when he fouled out and #30 for Twenhofel had close to the same. Norton also got a lot of PT for Twenhofel.

It was one of the best MS games I have seen. CC fought to the end. McGovney (#20) played very well and Franzen had about 15 points also. Unfortunately, the CC purple bench is not real deep and it hurt them down the stretch.

  3. Did any teams stand out this weekend at KBA or at Hoops?

Omega All Stars played two good games yesterday at KBA. Unfortunately, they came up just short against the Lexington Colonels. The Colonels are a solid team across the board (semifinals of state last year). In the first game, Omega beat Lake Cumberland by 18 (probably the best game I have seen Omega play this year).

  4. Or is it poor coaching;):D

From what I have seen, the Firehawks are well coached. I also overheard the head coach tell the team during the game that "we win and lose with class." This is something that is lost too many times in AAU ball. I remember getting beat once 63-6 by a team that pressed the entire game (I won't mention any names :thumb:).

The Wolfpack team they played is very strong. It will be a great U13 state tournament this year.

  5. Omega All Stars play Lake Cumberland at 3:00 and Lexington Colonels at 5:30 at KBA. Anyone know anything about Lake Cumberland? I know the Colonels made the semifinals in last years state. Should be a good game.

  6. Highlands 7th beat Blessed Sacrament at SOAS last night 58-23. I didnt attend but from what I heard many kids played and the usual suspects had good games. Several Birds are developing their game and shooting the ball well.

Next up for the Birds will be a big conference game in Falmouth vs. the Sharp Wildcats on Monday evening.

What time is the game on Monday?

  7. KBA Winter Classic schedules aren't coming out until tomorrow. Anyone know who is playing in the different age groups??? I know Omega is playing in U10, Wolfpack will be represented in U11 and U12. Anyone know any teams for any divisions? Who are the players to be watching at this event? :dancingpa

Here are the U10 teams. Central Ky Crusaders, Somerset Future Purple, Somerset Future Gold, Lake Cumberland Warriors, Lexington Colonels, Scott County Vipers and Omega All Stars.

I know Omega pretty well:thumb:. Anyone know anything about the others?

  8. Where are the 7th Wolfpack playing this weekend?

I believe they are taking the weekend off due to school ball conflicts. They will play their last regular season league game at Mt Zion on Sunday afternoon.

  9. The 7th grade wolfpack beat the Firehawks by 20ish and the 8th grade Panthers by 10 last night at Mt Zion.

First half against the Firehawks was very physical. Hard fought on both sides. Racke played very little (looked like his back was bothering him?). Wolfpack pulled away in second half as Firehawks were in foul trouble. Wolfpack assistant got a technical and he was told that the head coach was the only one allowed to talk. I am glad they do not enforce that for my team as I have a tough time staying silent during the game.

  10. From the looks of it there is a lot of parity in NKY 7th grade ball this season. Highlands/Sharp/CC Purple/Summit View are all good teams that will produce some excellent high school players. Summit now has a Bullseye on their back and I know Highlands is chomping at the bit to play them again. They lost by 4 points early in the season and have a chance to redeem themselves later this month. Also looking forward to getting Sharp back but a little unsure what to expect when we show up down in Falmouth as far as the refereeing goes. Mayby you PC guys can share with us whether or not the Old guy/Young guy are still working games down there. :D I know last year our 8th grade coach got tossed in the hallway before the game even started. I dont have details on what was said but the ref was out of line for giving him the boot.

CC Purple at Summit View next Tuesday. Should be a good one.

  11. We are looking for tournaments in prep for State at KBA after the Mt Zion leagues are over. Does anyone know of any out there? I have information on BCI, Hoops, Mid America, etc. but we are trying to find other local tournaments. Thanks for your help.

  12. According to the schedule posted on Hoops' website, it was the 6th grade Suns. You are right, though, the Suns do not have a 7th grade program. Those kids play various places now, but most play for the Fighting Irish.

The Wolfpack played two 8th grade teams. The Royal Family and Watson Memorial. Both teams were very athletic and had a couple of stars. #33 on Watson Memorial was especially impressive. Anyone know his name?

Pack did not play well and only had 6 players (missing Uebel, Malott and Shelton). Team needs to be more aggressive. They bounced back on Sunday and beat the Blaze and Rebels soundly in SOAS league.

  13. I think it would be pretty cool to get a list of AAU teams across the state with their rosters and any information posters could provide about these teams. Somewhat like a STate preview. Let me know what you all think. We talk so much about the top players but there are alot of other kids out there playing that could surprise some people over the next couple years by growing/improving their game.

Here is the roster for the 7th grade Wolfpack with some comments.

Darius Meiman - Dad Jim is head coach. Walton Verona I believe

Ben Uebel - Dad Jim is assistant coach. Future Brossart Mustang. CC Kings AAU last year

Justin Shelton - Goggle-free this year. Owen County. Nets AAU last year

Travis Pavy - Gray MS - Ryle. Raiders AAU last year

Nick Brown - Gray MS - Ryle. Nets AAU last year

Drew Mays - Gray MS - Ryle. Pacers AAU last year

Michael Malott - Nets AAU last year

Jared Kunkel - Conner. Nets AAU last year

Nate McGovney - Campbell County. CC Kings AAU last year

This team is strong from top to bottom. Big and quick. Will run you up and down the floor. Undefeated in Mt. Zion league (although competition level is not on par with them).

Though this is their first year, there will be debate on playing D1 vs D2 at state. A subset of this team coached by Gary Geiman made it to the Sweet 16 at the D2 U12 Nationals last year. This was done with only a little amount of practice time.

  14. The schedule below was posted on the KBA website. Can anyone confirm the location for next year's state AAU tournaments? Thanks

  15.

I think the Wolfepack has a very nice team and have seen them play several times. I think they can and should compete in D1 along with the Louisville Storm team. The Wolfepack is a NKY allstar team. D2 is for school or community teams simply put. I think they can compete in D1 on the national scene. I doubt they would win the championship but they would compete! KY was well represented and did fine at D1 Nationals last year. There is a huge difference in the D1 tournament. The athletes are bigger, quicker and stonger. The speed of the game is much quicker at the D1 level than the D2 level and huge difference than middle school ball. Plus you get to measure yourself against the best kids this country has to offer. It is a true measure on what you need to improve and how much harder you have to work. Lets look at the current trend that is not going away with 7th & 8th Graders verbally commiting to major colleges just this past year. The D1 experience is so much different than the D2 tournament on the national level. The ceremonies are professionally done and the guest speakers are people who have been there and done that. Last years speaker was the president of the Jordan line and his message was powerful. Not to mention there will be college scouts and coaches at the 13U and 14U D1 nationals with "Lists" in hand checking and evaluating their list. I can not stress how important this is and you are only putting your kids at a disadvantage in their hoop dreams if you are playing in D2 or local tournaments. Your child can be great but if no one has seen them play or play against better competition then whose fault is it. All parents are going to have to make a choice. What's yours? I would like your opinions on this issue. I will post a letter from a friend of mine who is in the business a little later that I think you will find interesting. If not that is okay too. But I think it is important and that is why I will post it.

Very good post. It will be interesting to see what this year brings. All in all, there is a ton of talent in the area and the future of NKY basketball is very bright. I am looking forward to reading the letter you mention.

  16. I was just wondering who are the better NKY AAU teams this year?

I like to follow as much as possible so any help is appreciated. I am interested in all divisions (4th through 8th). Which teams are good enough to play Div 1 this year down state?

The Wolfpack are very strong across all the grades (4th-8th). Here are other good teams that I know of.

4th - Omega All Stars, Rockets

5th - Hornets (playing up in Mt Zion league)

    6th - Tar Heels

8th - Tar Heels, Hornets, Raptors

Other than the Tar Heels, these teams play in leagues on Sundays at SOAS Mt Zion.
