  1. Robinson stepped into a completely different situation that Herron. If you call Corbin a small school, then Williamsburg is tiny...Corbin has almost triple the enrollment of Williamsburg. I still say last night was a good win for the Jackets.
  2. Why would a successful, experienced coach want to go to Williamsburg? Only kind of coach you are going to get at a small class "A" school is inexperienced. So should W'burg go with a coach that is going to use it as a stepping stone and be gone in a year or 2, or go with someone with strong school and community ties that will stay for the long term. Sure young coaches make mistakes, but they learn from them and get better. Robinson has the basketball knowledge, the work ethic, and will continue to improve as a coach as he gains experience. An outsider with the same traits would jump ship as soon as a better (larger school) offer came along.
  3. I don't know how anyone can say this is not a good win. A win over Barbourville at Barbourville is a good win for a team and a coach even if Robinson had 20 years of experience.
  4. That's some EXCELLENT foul shooting form both teams.
  5. Boucher is correct with his statement that "Ashurst always wants to be the star." That's what I meant by saying his "arrogance" prevents him from being a good official. Getting tourneys/college has nothing to do with how good you are...It's all in who you know. Ashurst must have connections, because he is a pitiful official.
  6. Ashurst is pitiful...has the skills/knowledge but his arrogance makes him awful. Always favors Corbin also.
  7. I think what bothers most people is that if a public school committed the same violation, the penalty would have been much more severe.
  8. Even if I take the Corbin low number (42) and the M'boro high number (15), that seems to be a bit lopsided to me.
  9. Yes, very good. They have to be considered the favorite in the All "A"
  10. I believe they were there 2 years ago, moved away for a family issue, and then moved back this past summer.
  11. It's not Corbin's fault they get the breaks at their place, it's the officials fault. I have no animosity towards Corbin for that at all. Corbin is an excellent school academically and athletically, that's fact. Corbin has top notch athletic facilities, that's fact. Corbin has excellent coaches in all sports, that's fact. My only complaint about Corbin is that over the years they have improved their teams by enticing talented athletic kids from surrounding school districts to come there, another fact.
  12. That's what people from Corbin say. ps...Looks like you accidently hit your caps lock button.
  13. Does anyone have the stats that show the number of foul shots taken by Corbin and then umber of foul shots taken by M'boro? I had heard (so don't know if fact) that corbin shot more than twice as many foul shots as M'boro. It's common knowledge around here that you'd better be 10 points better than Corbin to beat them at their place.
  14. I think it will end up with B'ville or Harlan out of top bracket (I believe semis are at B'ville so that would give them the egde) with W'burg or M'boro out of the bottom. Thought that it would be W'burg since they beat M'boro several times over the summer, but with the 2 returning girls that M'boro got back, and the W'burg/M'boro game is at M'boro, I have to give the edge to M'boro.
  15. 4ht grade hold back is much better than 7 th grade. Definitley agree on the Whitley intensity. I dont' think W'burg played any other team with that defensive intensity, and their is no way they have the quickness to simulate it in practice.
  16. Here I am agreeing with Apex again. The only negative I see is the classroom boredom during the 2nd year in the same grade. That's why I think the younger the better for the holdback. But let's play devil's advocate here. What do you think the comparison is of "hold backs that are athletes" to "hold backs that are not athletes?"
  17. Guess I'm going to have to agree with Apex on the Whitley depth. What was really impressive was that Coach Baker had the confidence to have only 1 starter on the floor, up about 7, midway through 4th quarter. The Williams kid can help, but has difficulty against quick, aggressive defenders. It showed last night. He had several turnovers in short stint. He is very heady player, has good ideas and moves, but is unable to execute against quick defenses. Brock gave some very valuable minutes. Rains works his tail off when in the game. Pettit fouls enough to get adequate rest since hemust be subbed for to prevent fouling out. Pettit by the way is getting better daily and I look to see good things out of him. Just want him to keep head in check and not get "frustration fouls." Teague works hard, good hands, just get fatigues because he is usually battling someone stronger so he has to exert more energy. Cunningham and Taylor seem to be buying into Coach Robinson's inside-out philosophy. Barton is huge help. Young, but very calm demeanor, could care less about his numbers, you can see him trying to do what coach says. It's hard to prepare for high pressure defense when you don't have the personnel to go against that in practice. Keep working Jackets, I'd love to see you sneak up and get some W's in the Bowman.
  18. I have no problem with what they do and I realize that it is common practice at many schools. They can't do it for "additional" years of varsity experience, only to make them "later" years. You still only get 4 years after promotion from grade 8. Granted they may occasionally get an 8th grader to play varsity which gets them 5 years of high school ball (like the Barton boy at W'burg). For the most part it is done so that their senior year they are older, more physically mature, etc. I was just offering an opinion on the reason for the dominance. In addition to the fact that Whitley can choose from 600+ girls in grades 9-12 and W'burg can choose from 100+ girls. Also, the difference in the feeder programs/facilities. Every Whitley elementary has their own gym. Meaning that their elementary teams can practice every day. Williamsburg has 1 gym for K-12, so you know the elementary girls get very little gym time. Thanks to the generousity of a local church, the girls are able to get some additionial practice time there. I sure didn't mean to take anything away from Coach Anderson, his staff, and their girls. I respect all of them, I respect the tradition of girls basketball that he/they have established. Heck, I am envious. I just think for a small school, that doesn't hold kids back, that has limited facilities, that excels academically, Coach Rains and his staff put a fine product on the floor...and...that the major difference between the 2 teams I watched last night was the quickness of the Whitley guards.
  19. As I said, "and company" definitely helped provide the defense. I hate that for Holbrook, it appeared she rolled an ankle in warm ups. I hope she is not out long. The biggest difference in the teams is/was the quickness of the Whitley guards. I just hope the next time they play, the W'burg girls walk on the floor believing they can win.
  20. I agree with the Jones and Osborne part, those 2 combined to outscore W'burg's entire team, I don't agree with the "and company" part though. Maybe I should, because the "and company" definitely helped to provide the defensive pressure, but on the offensive end it was all Jones and Osborne. I certailny hope that the Lady Jackets "thought they could beat them." I'd hate to ever take a team into a game that they thought they couldn't win.
  21. I know that age is irrelevent once you step on the court, but I was just curious. It is common opinion that Whitley County identifies potential players at a young age and then parents/school hold them back so that they are older when competing in high school basketball. Obviously it is legal, and they make sure that the girls won't turn 19 prior to 1st day of school their senior year. Here are the current ages of the 8 players that get the majority of the minutes for the burg: E Sears-18-SR B Peters-17-SR K Hoffman-16-JR W Rains-16-JR C Durham-15-SO S Burr-15-SO K Sears-15-SO L Ayers-15-FR Can anyone list the ages of the top 8 Whitley players? Again, completely legal to do the pre-high school hold back, but since W'burg does not do that, it may shed some light on the dominance that Whitley holds over them. I don't mean that this is the only reason, I know, and respect, the time and work that Coach Anderson, Jones, their staff, and all the kids put in...I'm just saying that this is 1 of the factors.
  22. Great effort by the Jackets. If they conitnue to play like that, they can be competitive. Guards seemed to buy into the fact that they need to get the ball inside. Post players worked hard. Whitley hit some big 3's, but I think Robinson would be content to give up those shots figuring that teams can't hit them night in night out. Whitley's bench was very impressive, they are much deeper than I had realized.
  23. Was not even a game. Whitley jumped out on the Lady Jackets from the start and never looked back. Lady Jacket guards could not handle the defensive pressure the Lady Colonels put on them. Whitley guards are very quick, skilled, and can shoot the ball well also. Brimm did not kill the girls from W'burg, Jones and Osborne did. I don't konw how many turnovers W'burg had, but I would guess in excess of 25.
  24. I am it TOTAL agreement with Bubba and Ramblin Man
