  1. Mason Co. has had low scoring games so far this year. Is this due to them starting out playing high quality 9th region teams, as the 9th typically plays a slower and more fundamental pace; or are they struggling on offense?

What I have noticed is only 1 or 2 players are actually willing to drive and create. Also, way too many open shots are being passed up.

Guys go out there have some fun and shot the ball........Its YOUR turn !!! Its ok to miss a shot or make a mistake. Everyone understands your potential, and that it may not be here now.

Just play ball and enjoy this year being called the defending State Champs.

  2. I wonder what coaches gave Fairdale and Christian Co their ONE first place votes?

Kind of surprised to see Mason Co all the way up at #8.

Top 5 looks about right but I'd have GRC at #4 over EC.

Agreed somewhat......But, I don't see many teams underneath Mason Co. that could take the #8 spot.

Also, first place votes given to Fairdale and Christian Co. is just funny.

  3. I did pick Highlands to win..... But if there was to be a big upset this weekend it would be this game. Ashlands size and tempo should keep them in the game.

They just have to keep from falling to far behind early ( easier said than done ) or the wheels just might come off.

    Good luck to both teams.

Also, I love the atmosphere in Ft. Thomas during football season. Anyone going for the first time is in for real treat ! Have fun !

  4. And here is what Sheldon Clark is likely to get out of Mason County

    - Small team but lots of speed

    - A deceptively strong RB in Thompson who likes to get to the edge with a WR blocking downfield, but who will also take it between the tackles

    - Finesse defense, bend but not break

    - Coach who has a penchant for taking big chances that either blow up in his face or can single handidly turn a game around (but not as often this year as in years past)

    - A team who has dominated in their wins, but lost to the two Northern KY 6A schools on the schedule

    - A young QB who can scramble and make plays with his arm and his legs, but still needs to check down on occasion

I like how the Royals young QB hasn't been overexposed, and the running game is given a good solid chance at winning games for the Royals.

The results have been less mistakes and a more potent offense. :flame:

  5. I don't see Mason "surprising" anyone - they may win, but the Royals aren't exactly flying under the radar. They're a quality team; I'm not sure I would classify it as an "upset" if they reach Louisville (although I'm still picking Belfry to come out of the east...)

I think some of the comment you referred to may be a little stigma left over from many claiming Mason Co. would not be as good as last years Royals. I think those notions are now behind us.

  6. Interesting in 3A.........

A very solid pick in the 1 and 2 spot in Central or Belfry.

Then Breathitt and Mason Co. holding firm in the 3 and 4 spots.

Your finals will be Central vs one of the other 3 ( above ).

Would be hard for Mason Co. or Breathitt to pull of 2 upsets.

Russell just won't be there. Not to say that they couldn't get past Mason Co. but the buck would stop right after that.

Out west ? Don't know much except from what I have read about. Central is the defending state champs and not much has changed.

Good luck to all the team involved ! Can't wait to see how it a plays out !

  7. Mason County is similar in that regard. Mason's QB Pawsat is also a soph; in fact, his first varsity start was in last year's MC @ GC game. He throws a nice ball, is athletic enough to be a threat on the ground when he tucks the ball away, and I think for a young guy does really nice job with his play fakes.

He has came along way with his ball handling and footwork since the first game against Paris.

I think alot of not following through was mental since it was his first game as QB1. Even though he had started last due to an injury, the offense was finally his to manage. But, its all worked out now!:ylsuper:
