Football affecting Basketball season?
Blackbears '08 replied to basketballfan1's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
I love to hear basketball people complain about football being too long. It makes me feel that football is finally getting somewhere in the state of Kentucky. -
Harlan/Clay Co. Predictions
Blackbears '08 replied to CabinOnTheHill's topic in KY Football (High School)
Nothing like Lungbuster and Pappy funnin'. That is what keeps me going on preps. The funny thing about this is you all are probably really good friends outside of Harlan vs. Cawood topics. As my mammy used to say when I was a little boy, "Can't we just all get along?":dancingpa:dancingpa -
I personally think that they should rotate the home games to each of the three high schools. I know that Cawood is probably more centrally located for all county kids but I still think it would be neat to rotate the home games. I am still hoping for a miracle that the field will be ready though. But I realize that, that is a long shot thanks to all the hang ups that this process has taken on.

State football finals moving?
Blackbears '08 replied to stickymitts's topic in KY Football (High School)
Keep it in Louisville. There is just something about going to Louisville to the football finals. Just my personal opionion, but that and 50 cents will buy you a cup of coffee. -

Braveheart, did you mean "I hope they CAN get it finished"? -
I hope this game does not get out of hand but if the right Cawood team does not show up it could get ugly really quick. On another note, I am hearing that Cawood will have the ghost of the past back for one last time. Are they having some kind of reunion or something? Can anyone from the Cawood faithful tell more about this gathering of former coaches and players? I bet there will be some greats on Big Man Davis field for one last time.

Bellco93, I am assuming that Doodle Woolum is Mark? If so, I have heard that name thrown around here in Harlan but I haven't heard anything for sure. I am not too familiar with Mark but it is not like I matter in the decision process, I am just a jake leg wondering the same thing everybody else is. Is Mark a head coach? What school is he at in Florida? -

The school is WAY ahead of schedule. It will be open in April. -
Not sure on the fields, they could have a football field by next year but it might be the following. I have heard that superintendent Tim Saylor has stated that he will not just put any field and fieldhouse together. I have heard that he will wait until the money is there to put together one of the nicest facilities in the state of Kentucky.

I have to confirm Lungbusters selective memory of the SW/Cawood games. I was at the game and I remember the play he is talking about when the great linebacker Denny Farmer stopped the SW quarterback on the option to seal the victory.

Let me put all rumors and worries to rest. JB Donahue, David Hensley and Tuck Woolum WILL NOT BE even considered as the new coach at Harlan County High School. I am not saying that they are bad or good coaches, I am just simply saying that neither of the three will be the coach for the Black Bears. -

Don't be so sure about Jay Cobb not being interested in the job. I guess only time will tell. -

You all are right, it would never be JB and Hensley because they would never have a chance. As for Dudley, who would want to even fool with him. Don't get me wrong he is one of the best to ever coach in KY but who wants to go through trying to make him the richest coach in the state because Dudley will toy with any job. Holcomb I can see as being a great fit but I don't see him leaving Breathitt, I think he might have some grand kids there. I personally think Jay Cobb would be the best fit but I am not the one hiring so who knows. -

Man I am loving this team next year more and more I think about it. With the ones mentioned, Gilliam, Simmons, Clark, Green, Smith, Helton and I am sure there are others, this team could be loaded with speed and talent. Now if we can put together the big uglies up front. The thing about this is, is that there is a real good possiblity that Harlan County could two platoon which would be crucial in a run at a title. I think that they would be able to two platoon. I get more excited the more I think about it. I too think the kids will love playing together. I just hope the parents will let go and let the kids bond and allow a new era of Harlan County football begin. Go BLACK BEARS!!!!!!!!!!! -
