  1. The Dean Martin DVDs are always good...except for when Regis starts trying to sing.

I liked the Ronco knives but I've seen that one so many times it's boring now. The Magic Bullet commercial was good too, but they have a new Magic Bullet infomercial now with a bigger blender/juicer.

Somewhat similar is the Cutlery Corner knife show on DirecTV channel 227. It comes on Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Wednesday nights from like 9 PM to 4 AM...kind of like one huge infomercial; great to fall asleep to.

The Showtime Rotisserie is a good one, as is the Express 101 (I think it's called) George Forman grill rip-off. I used to like the Pocket Fisherman too, but haven't seen it on TV in a long time.

  2. Well, after adjusting my driving habits on the website (65% city driving and 35% highway driving) it bumped my MPG's down to a combined 18. I suppose I now qualify, but I guess I'd have to actually talk with a dealership.

  3. My stinking 1996 Jeep Cherokee doesn't qualify. According to fueleconomy.gov it gets a combined (keyword) 19 mpg. There's no way this thing gets that much. On a good day I might get 15 mpg out of it.

  4. I can't find the pity because compared to what I had available to me when I was your age, you've got it good, even if you have to share.

Because of Facebook, I've been able to:

Find classmates from high school that I haven't been in touch with for 25 years.

Keep in touch with friends I've made over the years who've moved away. I'm not talking to another part of the region, I'm talking to other parts of the country, and other parts of the world.

I'm able to keep in touch with my son and his fiancee. It's difficult because of their schedules to keep in touch.

I'm able to maintain a relationship with my future daughter-in-law's family, who I've only gotten to meet once, and won't get to see often, as they live in LA

I'm able to keep up with friends I've made through BGP outside of BGP.

I'm able to keep in touch with my family, whom I never see.

And I'm well on my way to being a Mafia Don. :D

MySpace is far inferior to Facebook, IMO. I hate it.

Are college kids the only people for whom social networking is beneficial? Look at it from the perspective of millions and millions of people world wide. Facebook is a good thing for so many because as you grow older, it's much tougher to connect with people who are important to you. Facebook offers that, and I'm thankful.

All great things. Also, things that could have been done via Classmates.com and a phone and other media.

You're not going to find many college students happy about the changes Facebook has made over the years, but too late now.

  5. So your upset that facebook is becoming too much like MySpace. Yet if facebook would have stayed exclusive to college students you would be happy going back to using MySpace once you graduated. Makes sense.

Never said I'd be happy, I said that's what I would have done. There is life outside of Facebook.

  6. Sure, it's relevant. Are you planning on discontinuing your account when you graduate? Also, if it's no longer fun with those people listed as your friends, block them.

Again, all of the sudden blocking people would create more drama than I really want to deal with.

Also, if Facebook had stayed the same (which this isn't relevant because it's already changed) and closed your account once your college e-mail was deactivated, then so be it. I would have just gone back to using MySpace, like I did before I went to college.

  7. If there is pictures on there you don't want your mom or family to see you probably shouldn't have them on their anyway. Not to mention a lot of employers are now checking that stuff out.

Yet another problem created with allowing anyone on there. Since that happened, employers can get on there, and if they look hard enough, could find something to use against you.

"Well, I see one time 3 years ago that you dropped the F bomb on your Facebook wall. Because of that, we've decided to go with someone else."

  8. I'm trying to feel bad for you, but I just can't seem to find any pity.

One day, you'd graduate....then you'd be kicked out of the club.

Your friends would be far-flung, and you'd have a difficult time keeping in touch.

Then so be it. I'd probably just go back to using MySpace. Obviously you can't find the pity because you weren't there when it first started to see how much better it was.

  9. Myspace is pretty much social ad site. I don't fool with that site anymore.

Do you not think Facebook is quickly becoming more and more like MySpace? They're pretty much one-in-the-same to me now. Whenever Facebook introduces something new, MySpace has a similar feature within a couple days, and vice versa.

  10. Soooo....your beef is that Facebook is no longer an exclusive club? Not really the other stuff, as there's an answer to all your beefs you mentioned. You're miffed it's not exclusive to college students any longer.

What if your mom had gone back to school? She could have had a college e-mail and you'd still be crying the blues.

The likelihood of that is/was very, very small.

No, I honestly do not like all of the other changes Facebook has made. Too much advertising, too many applications and nonsense on there.

And yes, it was a bit like being in a country club and one day the club decided to let anyone and everyone come in and enjoy the facilities.

  11. You know you can block your mom from seeing your profile....right?

And what kind of lecture would I get about that?

    *Ring Ring*

    "Hi mom."

"Why did you block me on Facebook!?:madman:"

    or

    *Ring Ring*

    "Hi mom."

"Why haven't you added me as a friend yet?"

  12. Just have to ask...how has allowing people other than those who have a college e-mail account caused Facebook to become "crap".

With that, they added all these stupid quizzes, applications, etc. I constantly get some kind of invite to "Farmtown" or "Vampire Wars" and they're annoying. Luckily, they now allow you to block these, but I still get invites to new crap all the time. Not to mention the layout now is chaos.

When I joined, you had a profile, and you could join groups. It was simple, yet fun, and I see no need for all of this new stuff.

Allowing anyone to join has made Facebook less fun as well. I don't want my mom spying on me and knowing everything I'm doing at college via Facebook. When it started, Facebook was a college community, and while sometimes a bit raucous, everyone was pretty much on the same page.

All of my friends that had Facebook years ago agree that it's gone way down hill and they should have never allowed anyone and everyone to join, but money talks, and more people mean more advertising dollars.

  13. This is crazy. I am on the verge of deleting my Facebook page. It's too much crap now. When I first registered for Facebook (Fall of 2004) it was so much better than this. On top of all the general "crap" on there now, my parents have accounts, I know people's grandparents who have accounts, and I've seen dogs and cats with accounts. Facebook was great for the first two years and has quickly gone down hill since allowing people without valid, college e-mail accounts to register.

  14. Sonny's in Richmond is the best! All you can eat plus awesome sauces and sides! Their sweet tea is great too. Plus, it's pretty affordable. I drive the 2 hours sometimes just to go there!

That's dedication right there. I always get the sliced brisket (all you can eat) with cornbread and a sweet tea. My favorite sauce is the "sweet" sauce.

  15. ^I've never heard of Mike Linnig's as a place for seafood. The fried fish is certainly good, but seafood generally, you can get better elsewhere. Seafood anywhere not on a coast is going to be severly disappointing as far as I'm concerned, although Mitchell's Fish Market is a nice chain that popped up out on the East End a few years ago that I've liked every time.

Well they bill themselves as "Famous Seafood Since 1925." I got the fried fish sandwich, and the portion was huge, but other than that, it just wasn't impressive. My fiancee' got the crab cakes and we were both disappointed by those as well.

I agree with you that unless it's on/near a coast, it's not going to be great seafood, but there was a whole lot of hype about this place, plus they had a sign out front saying they were voted one of Louisville's best restaurants. After going, I don't see how.

  16. A little off topic, but I went to Mike Linnig's in Louisville, which is supposedly one of the best seafood places in the area and was severely disappointed. Yeah, the portion sizes were huge, but the wait and the food just didn't live up to the hype. You can get better seafood at Red Lobster or Joe's Crab Shack, IMO.

  17. The Sonny's in Richmond is great. When I went they had all you could pulled pork, great sauces, and awesome cornbread.

Tony Roma's has great ribs and chicken and it's over in Lexington Green. I lived in Lexington for 2 years and never heard of Old KY BBQ, Applecreek BBQ, or JJ McBrewsters.
