I'd say it's similar to Ashland in how they claim many state titles before there were even such a playoff system. My grandpa played for Ashland and the way he would reminisce about his football season made it seem like they made their schedule up as they went. Times were much different back then.
Great coach. It's one of those situations where ....."if you coach them....they will come"....lol I can see a few transfers coming in to be able to play for the man. He's that well liked.
I don't think you have to be a teacher to coach anymore do you? I mean I know a coach wouldn't want to come for free but I dont think he has to be part of the faculty.
How many linemen have been told by college recruiters "you may be faster, stronger and quicker than the other recruits were looking at but we can make them faster and stronger....we can't make you 6'4"." Lol
I think strength is important but mainly to keep from injury. Not selling it short but I just dont believe its a game changer. In the past Ive seen 2 Ironton linemen who were much weaker in the gym than 3 of Russells linemen come out on top. In the trenches 6'4" and 350lbs trumps over a stronger smaller lineman 75% of the time. Just my opinion.
I was there and filmed the awards. I was surprised that JC did not do as well. I do know they had a strong power lifter that only competed in the Bench because of just recently having knee surgery.
