Who cleared all of these kids to play last season with this type of injuries - fractured back, broken shoulder, bruised spleen, buldging disc, torn miniscus??!! These are not types of injuries that any athlete should be cleared to play football. Butler did play the entire game (just watched entire game film from last year) and was not a factor. All is not important, except so many people are indicating Hills only won last season becasue of Henry's injuries; thus Hills not able to win again. Will be a hard fought game and weather again threatens to be an issue. Hills is more balanced than North Oldham, so not as easy to just defend one aspect. Hills 28-21.

Not sure who Henry County was missing last season when they played Hills. Only one of their linemen was out; while QB, leading rusher, top three receivers, and top three tacklers all played. I know Henry County had numerous injuries after they played Western Hills, but seemed to be pretty much at full strength. Will be a tough game, and might be for the district title!

The flag in question was for a block in the back by a WR downfield. Hills had a pass play with the WR running across the field after a catch. Another Hills' WR circled back and blocked Spencer's DB trying to make the tackle. Hills' player got his head and pads in front of Spencer's DB while making the block. Back judge threw the flag for block in the back from 20+ yards behind the play, side judge was in better position to make the call. Side judge started to wave off the flag as soon as thrown since he had better angle to make the call. Spencer then was flagged for unsportsman like conduct due to comments to refs by Spencer player (not coach). Then Spencer got another unsportsman like flag during extra point. The correct call was made on the block in the back.

Do not think they ejected Spencer's coach - no ejection notification gived by ref. The officials did a good job on the picked up flag and got the call correct. The back judge threw the flag from 20 yards behind the play, but the side judge (only 5 yards away and in front of play) immeadately started to wave off the flag. It is VERY unusual to see flag picked up, but it was the correct call. Was a big win for Hills. Offensive and defensive lines did a great job controlling the line of scrimmage. Hills was able to keep Spencer's running attack in check much of the night - limiting Spencer's leading rusher to 28 yards (averaging around 190 coming in). JWright did a great job on both sides of the ball. His rushing yards were huge, but LB play just as important. Another big district game at Henry County this week!

It seems amazing to me that Greenwood High has 4 of the top 10 players in the state in total tackles. Those four kids average 47 tackles per game by themselves. Greenwood's defense must be on the field for a TON of plays. What colleges are looking at Drew Rice? He has good size according to MaxPreps profile and is averaging almost 20 tackles per game.

Good post trueblue60 on differences between West Jessamine and Spencer County's option attacks. Against West Jessamine, Western Hills got too complicated in it's defensive schemes; which resulted in missed assignments. I think Hills will go back to straight assignment defense and do a much better job. Not many missed tackles against West Jessamine, just missed assignments. If Western Hills can control the line of scrimmage, then less opportunities for #11 and #12 to make plays for Spencer. LBs for Hills have to keep their assignments and tackle well. Wet field could hurt both teams, but limits Spencer's cut back lanes more.

I do not think that Spencer runs the same option package as West Jessamine. Also West Jessamine put in many new plays and formations in their bye week that they had never shown before. The Colt's FB had gained at least 140 yards in every game, while Hills limited him to 83; it was the read-option by the QB that killed them (not gutted at all). I think Hills goes back to basic assignment football and able to contain Spencer's running attack. If Spencer does not have a big/physical offensive line, do not see them being able to pound the ball on Hills in the rain/mud.

What is Spencer County's offensive line like? Western Hills' two loses have come against teams with big/physical lines. Hills has been able to contain teams such as Frankfort and Grant County which did not have dominate line play. If Western Hills can control the line of scrimmage, then will limit the number of big plays the Smith brothers can have for Spencer County.

It was the not the speed of West Jessamine that hurt Western Hills, it was the Colts execution of their offense. West Jessamine was very physical and ran their offense to perfection. Hills seemed to have some assignment breakdowns and it resulted in big plays. Frankfort has great skill and team speed, but Hills was able to counter that with a good game plan and tackling. Will have to do the same this week at Spencer County.

West Jessamine played a complete game on offense and defense. Their lines are very big and physical. Western Hills seemed to focus on stopping Colt's FB (who did break one long run for TD), and QB killed them. Having a bye week before Hills game benefited Colts - put in many new formations and plays on both sides of the ball (scored 3 TDs on formations never shown). West Jessamine did take knee at one yardline after botched Western Hills' punt with 1:30 min left - classy move by Colt's coach. Was a harder fought game than score indicates.

What is weather forcast for Friday? If another monsoon hits, all bets are off!! Hills has to limit Colts ground game. Kept East Jessamine to 220 yards under average. Hills has shown good ability to find a way to win thus far. Will be a close game between two teams that were a combined 1-21 just two years ago (combined 9-1 this year). Hills goes 2-0 against Jessamine County, 22-20.

Western Hills is far from a 4, 5, or 6 person team. They play well together and it is a credit to the kids that a different player or unit has stepped up each week. Against Frankfort the TEs stepped up HUGE and scored both TDs, while last week the d-line controlled the game and spent the entire night in Grant County's backfield. This week the LBs had a great game as a unit. Giving credit to kids that have good individual games does not take away from the team concept. The entire defense held East Jessamine to 109 rushing yards, and I am sure any player at Hills will trade any individual stat for a win. Hills is 4-1 due to the hard work of this senior class and their willingness to buy into the staff's team concept. If Hills can continue to play as a team and have great individual efforts, then the sky is the limit in a competative 3A this season.

Even bigger defensive night for Hills than I thought. East Jessamine came into game averaging 330 yards rushing per game. Hills held them to 109 yards rushing. LBs led the way for Hills defense. Slone had 21 tackles (13 solo), J.Wright had 16 tackles, and Curry had 11 tackles.

Sorry, East Jessamine's RB is Thomas. I guess thinking ahead to Spencer Co with a Smith at RB and QB.

East Jessamine has a good combination in the backfield. Hager is short and stocky, and runs well between the tackles. Smith is faster to the corner with good speed and moves. Although Hager runs between the tackles often, has good speed. Very limited passing threat for East. Hills did a good job most of the evening containing both backs.
