10 Good
  1. Correction, you have three lineman that bench over 250 lbs... Good news is, only one of them is a senior... BUILDING BLOCKS BABY!!!! Offseason will be productive as long as there are more than 12-14 young men who are truly dedicated to getting stronger.. Thats why the Bearcats are being pushed around, not enough dedication last offseason... Afternoon weightlifting is a wash at Walton, because on any given day there can be up to 50-60 kids in that weightroom, which should only hold about 25... Gotta find space, a building, and willing donors to construct a training facility which is the foundation of any successful athletic program.
  2. In regards to Walton, all of the kids on the team are from one school, Walton. There aren't kids coming from multiple schools to practice and play. They must be enrolled in Walton to play for the team. The catholic schools have multiple schools these kids come from to play. They don't just go to CovCath, obviously since they begin at 9th grade assumably. A young man who goes to any of the diocese schools that feed into CCHS is eligible to play for the middle school program. Makes the lines gray instead of black and white, but what can you do? Anytime you have high schools that have multiple feeder schools, you will run into this problem unless boundaries are put on them like the independent schools. Independent schools can accept any student, but must stay under student capacity to accept outside tuition students. If the classrooms are full, no tuition students can be taken. In-District students always take first priority. Moot point though, things like this will always be discussed and thrown around, especially when a program is having success at multiple levels.
  3. You guys are also talking about the varsity head coach who took over play calling last year when they were getting beat in the JV conference champ. game.... And still took the loss.....(3 times by the way).... Not that JV really matters when November hits, but it is a sneak peek into the future of programs..... :ylsuper:
  4. Unfortunately there are no "official" parallel squat racks in WV's weightroom, we do however have a decent what I call a "squat box"... It's a smith machine type with the bar attatched to a gliding ring on each side. And yes, he did squat 600 on that.. Which includes no weight for the bar, no idea what the conversion is for that kind of squat rack. And yes, he went down to the same qualifications he would if he were at a lifting meet, that is made sure of, he's only 5'6" and weighs about 175. Pound for pound, one of the toughest and strongest I've seen in a while, and I've been around alot of football.... I would say on a true parallel "free" squat rack, he would probably still be above 500 lbs. Which is huge for only being an upcoming junior in high school.... Hopefully next off-season, we can enter in some of the lifting meets.. With all the changes, it's been hard to get things like that done, with transportation, entry fees, etc.... Look for him, #34 (atleast he was last year) plays both sides at FB and LB...
  5. Nope, definetly bench, squat, clean.... Deadlifts aren't an everyday lift for them....One benching 300, one squats around 600, two cleaning over 215.... Some pretty strong young men. A couple more are in the 900's.....
  6. [QUOTE=weasel91;3422404]BTW.......WV better get ready for conditioning and weight training the likes those kids have NEVER seen before.....If I know Jeff, and I do, those boys are in for work and discipline like they can't imagine......but it will all pay off for those young men with victory and valueable life lessons....Good Luck Bearcats.......Jeff is tough, but a good man to have teach and coach your young men and students. Believe me when I say there is a group of these young men who have been absolutely busting it in the weightroom since Jan. 4th when school began this past semester. A few which have exceeded the 1,000 pound mark in bench, clean, and squat. All of which have made HUGE gains in each lift, while also being pushed and pushed and pushed some more at 6 IN THE MORNING!!! That's dedication, I commend these guys and any program would be exstatic(sp?) to have this type of dedication in any athletic program. WV is getting ready for what should be a fun inaugural year in 1A football... :thumb:
  7. Can anybody tell me if there are any upcoming weightlifting meets in the NKY, Lexington or Louisville area?? If so when and where......
  8. With all of this back and forth between private school vs. public school, makes me want to say this to all the 6A fans who are pouting about Trinity being private. What about the 1A schools??? Beechwood just won their 11th state title. However, I am pretty sure Beechwood is an independent school, which means any athlete from anywhere if they want to pay, can go to Beechwood. 6A schools should be able to compete with X and T because they get a huge pool of young men to pull from. How do the smaller schools such as Bellevue, Gallatin, Trimble, Frankfort, etc compete with Beechwood?? I believe the only team to give them a run for their money is LCA, which has to be a private school (Lex Christian). I played my high school ball in Louisville against the Shamrocks and I agree they are an efficient football machine, but can you blame them??? If there is an argument about unfairness in a state title game, look to your smaller classes it's OBVIOUS!!!
  9. Does anybody remember a few years ago when Ryle made the same "magic run" to the state championship, only to be embarrassed by the same team SK will be playing (Trinity). This one will turn out to be the same, close in the first half, blowout in the second. Trinity is too deep, and too well coached to let a one man team (SK-Miles Simpson) and it surely is one athlete who wins their games, I do believe Marksberry said it himself.... Sorry Pioneers, Trinity will show you 6A football....
  10. I think Trimble runs the A-11 simply for a little smoke and mirrors. They had no success in it in their last game, and won using #5 in a power running offense. I agree that Beechwood romps in this one, but word to the wise, #5 has a cannon. (atleast I think that kid is #5)
  11. This game closes out Walton's inaugural varsity season. Any thoughts?
  12. Walton wins the conference championship for this league. Congrats to the bearcats for playing their hearts out!! Great season for this JV, 7-1. Kudos to Bellevue for a hard fought game. This one came down to the wire..... GO BEARCATS!!:thumb::ylsuper::dancingpa:thumb:
  13. One understated fact in this argument is the Thursday night games for both Bellevue and Dayton. I know that most of the key players don't participate in these, but your back-ups do, which can sometimes decide games.. Who does Bellevue's JV have on Thur? Dayton has Walton at home, which should be a good game. Any thoughts?
