I do have complaints.

 

1. The lighting for finals was HORRIBLE. That has to be fixed next year.

2. Concessions weren't very good and lacked any variety. For an athletic event I'm always amazed at the lack of nutritious eating options.

3. Location, this couples back with concessions but there is no way to leave and get something to eat. You are stuck dealing with what the Horse Park provides and while the burgers were ok I would have prefered some variety if I'm stuck there for two days.

4. Time - WOW, Saturday was a LLLLLLLLOOOOOOOOOONNNNNNNNNNGGGGG day. Gotta improve it.

 

Overall, I think I like it better than Frankfort but changes need to be made or I'd like them to look elsewhere.

Floor was the biggest issue. The dirt floor caused issues with the surface not level or dips in certain areas. The green mat had to be adjusted during the day. They need to park the busses elsewhere to allow for more parking. Another issue I had was the lighting for the finals. When they turned out the lights for the finals in Frankfort it was something special. I was told that several more changes will be made next year. There was a record crowd this year with plenty of seats available. Overall I loved the new venue!

 

I did like the location and the "ring" size allowing for additional mats. I was blown away when they cut the lights for the introduction and never turned them back on; I even went to someone and asked about it. I found it almost hard to tell from a distance who was wrestling! Rather bizzare but I'm sure it will be better next year.

1. I usually got there around 9:00 - 9:15 and I did not see a problem with the parking. However, I stayed there all day and did not leave the event so I am not sure how the parking was later on during the day.

 

2. A couple of the concession stands offered salads and some sub sandwiches besides that most of the things were not healthy at all. They also ran out of certain drinks which I think is an issue. Plus $2.00 - $2.50 for a bottle of water was ridiculous. I do think you could bring in your own food and drinks. I don't remember them ever checking bags.

 

3. I have been told that next year they are going to pack down the dirt before laying down the white tiles then the mats will go down.

 

4. I also have been told they are working on a solution on how they do the lighting for the championship round.

 

Here are a couple of things I would change for improvement.

 

1. I would not set up the podium area until the championship round. I mean wouldn't it take 5 - 10 minutes to do so. They could easily do this while moving the one mat into place for the championship matches. This would allow 2 more mats on the floor and should be able to add another round to 1 1/2 rounds Friday. From what I was told, for the youth to tournament they had 8 - 10 mats down (I can't remember). With this said, they did not have the stage up which took up some room.

 

2. Put up bleachers at the entrance area onto the floor on BOTH sides of the stage. There were some people on Friday who stood there almost all day as they had a lot of kids wrestling that day and had no chance to back up into the seats so they pretty much stood all day. I guess it is a good problem to have but at the same time I think it might help organize that area as well.

 

3. Figure out the lighting. I know they are going to address this for next year but it needs to be fixed. I think that was one of the biggest complaints from people.

 

4. They need to make Friday longer by a round so we are not waiting for the finals. They were almost 2 hours late. I think that deflated the crowd.

Overall I think the Altech arena was an improvement. One thing many people probably don't think of his handicap accessibility. Altech arena was far more handicap accessible than the dungeon.

 

The crowd was more subdued at finals than any year I've ever seen it mostly due I think to the late start of the finals. People were so tired if they didn't have a dog in the fight they just left. There were very few people left by the time the bigger boys started wrestling.

I did miss the Fresh Market concession, so I'll have to take that complaint back. Though prices were still very high.

I came at 1 on Friday and was there 15 minutes before the gates opened on Saturday. Had zero issues with parking.

Got there on Saturday around 1pm, had to park in the back of the main lot but there were still many spaces left.
