Bishop Brossart 45 St. Patrick 29 10th Region All A Championship

Featured Replies

:ylsuper: Bishop Brossart's early years in the 10th Region saw dominance in the Touchstone Energy All “A” Classic. Since 2003 though Paris and Maysville St. Patrick had enjoyed a nice run of success.

Saturday evening the Lady 'Stangs sophomore dominated lineup gave notice that the “Stangs are back on top and may be for years to come.

Coach Josh Feldmann's young team dismantled the three time defending Maysville St. Patrick team 45-29 to win the Region Championship. They are now 15-3 on the season at about the midway point after the team finished 19-10 in Feldmann's first season.

“This is a total team of 12,” beamed a very happy and relieved Coach Feldmann after the game. “I am soooooo proud of this team.” Feldmann has put together a cohesive unit of young talent that starts one junior and four sophomores that seems to get better every game.

“I'm happy for my team, added sophomore Morgan Eisenmann who came off the bench to earn a spot on the Region All Tournament Team, joining teammates junior Rachel Hartig and Sarah Futscher. “we seemed to really start coming together at the Owensboro Christmas Tournament.”

Brossart and St. Patrick battled early with St. pat actually starting the game with a 7-2 lead. That ended when Sarah Futscher made a nice drive to the basket to put Brossart ahead 8-7. That would prove the game's only lead change and they would never trail again. They built the lead to 12-7 at the quarter stop and 21-15 at the half. They gradually opened their lead the second half outscoring the Lady Saints 24-14 for the 45-29 win at Nicholas County.

Defensively Rachel Hartig and the Lady 'Stangs were superb holding St. Patrick to a 20.8% shooting percentage (22.7% in the first half and 19.2 in the second half). Brossart took advantage of second chance point scoring 15 to just 5 for St. Pat. Just as they had in the opening game they had a HUGE 20-1 advantage in points off the bench.

They held St. Patrick senior Chelsea Douglas to just ten points on 3 of 11 shooting, senior Allison McKay to 8 on 4 of 15 shooting, senior Allison Tolle to 5 on 1 of 9 shooting and junior McKayla Likins to 5 on 2 of 10 shooting.

Sophomore Sarah Futscher had a great game for Brossart leading all scorers with 17 points and 12 rebounds. She also found time to record 3 assists, 3 blocked shots and 4 steals. Eisenmann who led the 'Stangs with 15 in the big Wednesday night win over Bracken County, chipped in with 13 points (6 of12 from the floor) and 10 rebounds. Sophomore Cori Ziegler had 7 points.

Larry the Cable Guy always says “Get Er Done,” on this day the Lady 'Stangs did just that.

“I really can't say enough how much we appreciate the tremendous job Coach Feldmann has done for us along with the rest of his hard working staff Sarah Garwood and Jeff Schaefer,” praised Athletic Director Mel Webster.

The Lady 'Stangs are only four wins short of last year's 19 wins, finished third in a very tough Owensboro Tournament and have already secured the number one seed for the 37th District after beating Campbell Co. 53-42 last week to go 4-0.

True to form though, Feldmann gives all the credit to his team. “You know this ALL about the Kids,” he exclaimed. “I am very happy for them tonight.”

Hopefully this will be the first in a long list of success. Isn't winning fun!

Congrats to Brossart and good luck in the state. Agree about Sarah, and she is a great kid also.

Congratulations to the Bishop Brossart Lady Mustangs they will be a fine rep. for the 10th at the all a state. The St. Patrick Lady Saints playing there third game within 24 hrs. had alot of moxie but little else left in a couragous effort. Chelsea Douglas logged 94 minutes in the all a 10th region one day tournament, Allison Tolle over 90, Makala Likins at near 90 and Allison McKay with Hannah Ring near 80. The Lady Stangs were the odds on favorite to wins this tourney but to me it was against the spirit of the small school tourney to put the smallest of small schools in a position to be unable to compete at there very best. This is were I want to thank last years tournament host Deming, faced with the same situation last year when weather knocked out one night of play, They got it right by moving the tourney back one day.

I agree Bishop Brossart Ladies have a good young team and will be a force for several years. The Lady Saints gave all they had and more, using just 7 girls in game one on Saturday and just 6 on Saturday night took a lot out of them. The 2 subs they used was a freshman and an eight grader, so the Saints did ok. They lost a lot of girls this season one way or the other leaving them very short handed, but Coach Douglas did a great job with them being that short on girls. Good luck to both teams the rest of the season and Bishop Brossart Lady Mustangs bring back the ALL A State Title to the 10th region.

Not sure I understand the "three time defending Saints". St Patrick has been in the finals the last three years but only won the championship once, last year. Sounds like Brossart has a lot of talent coming up. They should do well the next couple of years. Good Luck, girls!

The schedule was agreed on by St. Patrick and it is our understanding we were working around Coach Douglas' work schedule. Should any team go to the State Tournament they would face a similar schedule.

Against the spirit? Brossart played 2 games on Sat too . . . both teams could have had a week off and Brossart still would of won. No one wants to hear about how many minutes someone had to play. 3 games in 24 hours is a normal weekend in AAU. The better team won.

Your second hand info is wrong, Coach Douglas did not agree to this format. Again the all a state doesn't have two games for the same team on any one day.
