There is still aproblem. The playoffs can be an important source of revenue. Four rounds of the playoffs are worth $80,000 to $100,000 to Trinity. (Just a guess.) How do you propose to replace the chance at that type of revenue for the private schools? Separate is UNEQUAL.

 

Play more regular season games since you won't have as many playoff games?

If it is to be separate but equal then who is going to pay for:

1. The second week at Rupp Arena for the private boy's basketball championship
   
2. The second week at Diddle/McBrayer for the private Girl's basketball championship
   
3. The second week at Applebee's park for the private baseball championship
   
4. The second weekend at Papa John's for the private football championship
   
5. The second week at Applebees for the private baseball championship
   
6. The second weekend at whatever venue is used for the private softball championship (the same one as used for publics)
   
7. The second weekend at whatever venue is used for the state volleyball championship (the same one as used for publics)
   

 

My guess is that any revenues collected at any playoffs (including districts and regionals) would probably have to go to the KHSAA to cover the extra expense that separation would cause. The public schools may be cutting off their noses to spiter their faces.

 

Then the other question becomes will the owners of those facilities want to tie up their facilities for another week?

 

You had better beileve that if Prop 20 does become a reality the private schools will demand (and rightly so) that their championships be 100% equal to those held for the public schools. That would include using the same venues. If the public schools try to weasel out of that you can bet the lawyers are already lined up.
