Seeing as how Crittenden likes to schedule teams during their down cycles, I'm thinking Crittenden should win this one.

Hopkins Central has been on their schedule for 3 years.... So how is this scheduling them if they are down? Exactly what do you mean that CC schedules teams when they are down? And please explain in detail what you mean... It will be interesting to hear what you have to say about this.

Hopkins Central won 13 games in the two seasons before they were on Crittenden's schedule. They have won seven games in the two seasons they have been on Crittenden's schedule.

Union County won 17 games the past two seasons. They graduated a huge senior class and *Poof* they are on the Crittenden schedule this year.

Marshall County has won five games in two years. *Poof* They are on the schedule

Trigg and Crittenden played just about every year in the 1990s. Higgins went to Trigg and *poof*, they vanished from Trigg's schedule. Trigg goes 4-7 last year and look who's back on the schedule. Trigg County.

I will give credit to Crittenden for scheduling Paducah Tilghman and Madisonville and avoiding the temptation of scheduling the Fultons.

Why didn't they continue their series with Mayfield. That had turned into a good little rivalry and Crittenden even won a couple of times. Could they not fit them in or are they just waiting for Mayfield to graduate a huge senior class?

Well I will give it to you that you have done your research and that you do have a couple valid points. However if you knew anything about how football programs schedule teams you would know that when a contract is up then it is up. Some years teams are up some years teams are down. Thats just the way some football is. Union Co. didn't want to get back on the contract when they got off. It just happens that they graduated a big senior class last year, and their Head coach is good friends with Coach Starnes so they made the game happen again. Marshall Co. wanted the game with CC, and Trigg was on our schedule for years because they were in our district. So your "*poof*" doesn't hold much water if you look at how somethings just happened due to scheduling. As for the Mayfield game. All of our fans and their fans want that to happen, but they are still in 1A and we moved up so our open dates didn't line up with theirs. I appriciate you saying that it is a good rivalry that we have with them, but you can cut out the smartness in your comment that we are waiting for them to graduate a huge senior class.

I dont have a horse in the race but I am almost certain that when Trigg County beat Crittenden County 63-21 in 2000, phone calls to Marion to schedule the Rockets in 2001 went unreturned. I have no knowledge of the other schools

So if you don't know for sure if calls were not returned after 2000, why did you post that?? If you are not certain (Which you are in no position to be) then why put something like that? Pluse the 2000 class was 5-6..... Did other schools not put CC on their schedule the next few years because they knew we would be waaaaay better??? Answer that!!

Let me rephrase. I dont know if the call was returned. I DO know that Crittenden was offered a chance to play Trigg in their bowl 10 years ago and refused. I also know they didn't want to try and fit Trigg into their schedule while Higgins was the coach there. How's that?

And let's be honest, I could probably expound on WestKy's research and find other examples where Crittenden has scheduled down. I also understand how the scheduling game works when it comes to the KHSAA grid and trying to match off weeks with opponents.

I have never ever known for CC to schedule down! I believe your reply is completly unfounded. I would be very interested to see what you claim as CC scheduling down! The last few years the only real down teams that are down year after year are the fultons. And CC had to play them due to them in their district. So I don't think your honest if you really think that, because we have always tried to play better competition. So expand away my friend...... By the way what is your team??

I'm a fan of all teams. Ok, most teams. But that has no bearing in the argument if facts are presented. I'm sure WestKy can do some non-district digging over the past decade. I also agree with him that it's good to see Madisonville and Tilghman on their schedule. Those are the teams that will better prepare them for the postseason and not the Websters and Reidlands (although Reidland is in their district this year). It's obvious I'm not going to change your mind because you are too close to the situation. Trust me when I say this. More than one head coach has told me the only time they heard from Crittenden County was after a losing season. Take that how you want.

Not to completely change the subject, but I wonder how much of Crittenden's current schedule is out of necessity instead of by "first choice."

Did Crittenden want to test itself against Madisonville and Tilghman and call those schools up, or did the best available open dates just happen to coincide with those schools?

I really don't know in Crittenden's current case, but I know of several schools (OK, smaller schools) that wound up scheduling people they otherwise probably would not have, but had to because those were the only schools relatively close that had matching open dates. That gets back to the aforementioned scheduling grid, not to mention small districts that mean most schools have to find 6-7 non-district opponents where in the past they only had to find maybe 3-4 because they would have played 6-7 district games.

If you're a small school, and the other small schools in your area have no openings on their schedule, there's not much option but to either schedule up or not have a full schedule. That sometimes leads to strange matchups and, in at least one case that I know of, two schools playing each other twice this year. I think that's some of the fallout from going to six classes, which I'm not a fan of but seems like it's here to stay.

It just seemed like a lot of schools had trouble putting together their schedules this year.

I respect your opinion and if you say that you talked to some head coaches and they said that then I believe you. However I don't agree with what they said. If you do then that is up to you. I know that Coach Starnes has always tried to play up in competition. Granted Webster was on the schedule and that doesn't look good. But you have to be from this area to realize that Crittenden is the only team that has been on Websters schedule since they started a football team in the 70's. They didn't want to break that streak because it would look bad to drop them especially with them being 30 min. away. Now this year Webster asked to drop us off because they said CC was to much for them, so Coach Starnes jumped at the chance to find someone else. That is why we got Pad Tilghman and Madisonville North. Reidland is on now due to them being in our district so in the end we got rid of the two fultons and had to pick up Reidland. Not a bad trade in my opinion. Our non district schedule didn't have Trinity, X, and Highlands, but it wasn't loaded with easy games either. So in the end you can have your opinion and I can have mine, I just hope you realize that it would be nice if those head coaches that said we called them after a losing season would man up and say that to Coach Starnes.
