George Rogers Clark 39 Corbin 29

Featured Replies

The score was tied at the half at 21 all. GRC made some key adjustments on the defensive side and held Corbin scoreless in the second half till late in the 4th quarter.

For GRC is was the Pokey Harris show. He had 173 yards and 3 TD in the first half. He ended up with 5 TD's ( one a interception) and I am sure over 300 yards. Great win for the Cards tonight over a well coached and scrappy Corbin team.

Congrats GRC! Impressive season opening win!

Yes it is a very impressive win for the Cards. The defensive changes at the half by the Cards was a big difference in the game.

Pokey Harris showed why he's hard to stop.

The George Rogers Clark senior rushed for 300 yards and scored five touchdowns to lead the Cardinals to a 39-29 win over Corbin in the season opener for both teams Friday night at Cardinal Stadium.

“What a ball game for him,” Clark coach Paul Columbia said afterward. “He's got speed, he moves and made a big play on defense, too, taking it back for a score. It was a great game for him.”

If his offense wasn't enough, Harris provided a score on the other side of the ball and put the finishing touches on the season-opening victory with a 60-yard interception return for a touchdown with 4:45 remaining.

“He gave us fits, defensively,” the Corbin coach said afterward. “We couldn't stop anybody.”

Harris rushed for 173 yards in the opening half on 10 carriers. The senior running back had 91 yards in the first quarter, including a 51-yard touchdown on his second carry of the season. Harris added another score in the first quarter with a 13-yard touchdown following quarterback Reid Campbell's 32-yard scamper on third-and-long.

The Redhounds scored on three of their four possessions in the first half, but Clark's defense held Corbin to one score in the second half.

Don't let his name "Pokey" fool you....he is a speedster....:D

Heard that UK, Tenn, Western and Eastern were looking at him.

What did Corbin look like?

Well coached team. He started off the game with a on-side kick...has some tricks and isn't afraid to use them. Their #19 carried the ball alot for them last night..nice player.

Great way to kickoff the season.

Hopefully Clark can carry this into next week.

We are off next week. Our next game is Sept. 2nd with rival Montgomery Co @ GRC.
