With all of this I am sure no one is an expert on the topic. I will agree with Spartan, Meinken is terrible. The field is one of the worst around. When you leave the rough infield area to the outfield it drops off what seems like over a foot or so. The lighting has to be up there with the worst ones in the area. I do not get out to many night games. I have been to night games at Meinken and do not envy the outfielders. St Henry seems to be very good for night games. JMO

Standards seem pretty specific to me. I have no idea what they mean, but someone should be able to apply them to the lighting at Meiken, which I agree is poor. And I very much disagree with the sentiment that "any lights are better than no lights." If the choice is between playing in very poor lighting or playing in daylight on another day, I opt for the latter.

A month ago, all teams in the district were given two options. Option 1: play one game each day (M, T, W, F). Thursday is not an option at St. Mary because they have grade school graduation that night, and parking/traffic would be impossible. Option 2: play 2 Monday, 1 Tuesday, and have the finals Wednesday. Every one of the schools agreed on Option 2. There is daylight until 8:30. The games were flipped to accommodate Scott's transportation needs. Mel did not put the schedule together either. So there are the facts. By the way, how many other 5-team districts in the state are now in the position, despite this weather, to only have one more game to play to complete its tournament???

And even if that were the case, you are still praying for a best case scenario to try to complete two separate complete games between 4:00 and 8:30. No one wants to feel rushed, especially in important games such as these.

 

That being said, if all the other teams agreed to it, I guess they have nothing to complain about. Why not use two separate fields for the second round games (4/5 winner vs. 1 and 2 vs. 2)?

It is called losing revenue as in gate & concessions.

The issue was not daylight anyway. It may have been that tornado/monsoon that came through about 7:15. If two games were started at 5:00, both of them might have ended up getting suspended.

Ok first of all the second game started at seven and if you read my post it stated rain or no rain this game had no chance of getting completed so it is poor planning. Second as I also stated mel had nothing to do with it. Third i also stated that soembody had to agree with the schedule however this district chooses to do there meeting via e-mail and not get together and meet. Finally if Silver Grove does not bail out which is conmpletely and utterly bush league you are not in that position. This schedule did not make the 5 team district only have one game left. Silver Grove opting not to play has created that situation.

And I do agree that if the schools agreed to this schedule that is there own fault. however, it just shows nobody was paying attention at other schools as to the potential issues that would come with this type of schedule.

If I'm not mistaken, don't all the teams in the district split the gate proceeds during district tournament play? I don't think they split concessions, so they would have lost out on one game of concession revenue, which I doubt would make or break their budget.

The girls softball team did not have enough players for the district tourney last year and forfeited their first round game and they were not suspended the two years. Really does not matter though it is an absolute black eye on the school and the program. Not the coaches fault as he has worked very hard this year and they have been competitive instead of always losing in 5 innings. In fact in the top of the first in the district game they had a walk and three straight singles (unfortunately two runners made outs on the bases). But when you have a roster of 11 and 3 kids determine that they are making a choice to do whatever else they need to do you are stuck.

Okay after doing some research the 2 year suspension only applies if a team does NOT show up. If you show and do not have enough players or if you start the game and then forfeit for whatever reason the rule does not apply.

Money is split but trust me by the time you pay umpires, baseballs, field maintenace issues (diamond dry, chalk, etc) most schools will get a check for 100.00 or a little less.

I sure do not want them to be suspended from post season play. It's not fair to the up coming players. It is as well up to the team to submit reasons for the forfeit to the KHSAA.Then the KHSAA can rule. I did not read the rule the same as you. Where did you find the part "only applies if a team does NOT show up". I read on page 66 in tournament rules.

That came straight from a phone call I made to the KHSAA office and spoke with the commissioner. But I agree with what you say the way the rule reads. And you are correct it is not fair to the younger players who wanted to play the game.
