NKy.com NKy Coaches Poll week 3

Very surprised that Lloyd after upsetting Dixie in a 34th District Seeding game, isn't ranked higher!

CovCath gets seven 1st place votes but only beats out NCC by 2 votes for the top spot. Just wonder where some coaches placed CovCath on their ballots?

15 Coaches voted! Nice turn out gentlemen!

Decent poll, but I think I'd have Boone at #2 over NCC. Their overall body of work is more impressive than that of NCC. Hopefully, the weather will allow Dixie and Ryle to play Wednesday night (at Freedom) to see if these two teams are in the right spots. I want to believe that Ryle should be ranked ahead of them and I guess they'll get the chance to prove it in two nights.

Interesting that Dixie, with a record of 6-5 got a first place vote this week.

It's a strategic vote.

They are 7-5 and have beat Covington Catholic 10-3.

I believe at the time of the poll they were 6-5, but even at 7-5 today, I guess you are saying since they have 1 quality win so far against Cov Cath (who is very good by the way), they should get a first place vote? Interesting...must be a Dixie fan.

They also just lost to Lloyd who is 6-6 on the year. Don't think they should have gotten a first place vote from any coach this week IMO.

They beat Cov Cath with ease with their best pitcher on the hill, in Severson. They also beat the 10th Region All A Champions and a very good Bishop Brossart team. The beat Louisville Southern who beat Trinity earlier in the year. I know Dixie isnt playing like they should be with the talent they have but on any given day they could beat anyone in the 9th. On the same note they could also lose to anyone, like Lloyd.

So at the end of the day, they are ranked about where they should be, correct?

Sometimes head-to-head factors in and sometimes it doesn't in baseball. Who pitched? Did they play the day before? Where was the game? Everyone healthy?

Team A can lose to Team B and still be considered a top team based on "their best 9."

Baseball is tough to rank.

You are what your record says you are. I was merely pointing out that I didn't think they earned a first place vote from any coach at this point in the season - It wasn't a personal knock on Dixie or their team. IMO so far this year they haven't played as well as they were expected to play. I'm sure they will be a factor at the end of the year. They are as talented as anyone I agree.

I do agree with Clyde that baseball is much tougher to rank because of all the variables.

Just to clarify:

Louisville Southern is 6-7 this year. KHSAA doesn't show them as beating Trinity and even if it did, not sure that qualifies as an overly significant win, as Trinity hasn't had a great start to their season to date.

Not sure that Brossart qualifies as a "very good" team, at least not yet. They've not beaten anyone substantial this year. The second half of their schedule - when they play the likes of NCC, Ryle, Harrison Cty, Beechwood, Dunbar, CCH, Woodford Cty - will tell whether they are a "very good" team.
