April 2, 201115 yr Since I've spent most of the day trying to kill time before the game I have surfed the internet dry, mainly Youtube. I mentioned him in my initial post but today I have really went back today and watched a lot of Dimebag's stuff and his story is just so tragic. He was an incredible guitarist and a person who enjoyed life more than anything and for him to be killed while doing what he enjoyed the most is just unbelievable but it happened. Just one of the most tragic cases in music history. Most people don't get to know many of these guitarists because they may play a little bit harder music than what they prefer but Metal has produced some uber talented ax men and Dime is certainly one of them. He is one of my top five all time favorite guitarists and its hard to believe its been almost 7 years since his death. Hope you enjoy. My favorite Dime guitar work is Hollow...But all of his solo's are excellent!

I tell you whats pure metal gold and thats Dimes version of Hollow off the "Live: Proof 101" Album and its basically a combination of the solo from Domination breaking into the middle of Hollow. Awesome stuff. Dime always gets overlooked but his technicality is off the charts. People are quick to dismiss guys because they play hard and fast or because they use a lot of distortion but you watch and listen to the things Dime does on a guitar and it is really impressive. His harmonic squeels with the wammy are second to none, clearly a trademark. I love his sound, you automatically know its Dime, just so hot rodded out and hard hitting groove.

I have tried to find both the Proof 101 and NOLA vinyls but the only success I had was too rich for my blood, or more than what you would want to pay for them so unfortunately I had to let them walk. Love Pantera as well although I was more partial to the Abbott brothers than I was Phil. However I love me some DOWN and its hard to beat what they bring to the table. I've been saying for a while DOWN has one of the tightest sounds for a band I have ever heard, they all mesh together perfectly. That's rare to for what you would call a side project or all star line up, glad they are back doing more stuff now. Love Pepper Kennans sound on all the DOWN stuff, he does great work.
April 2, 201115 yr Since third times a charm heres one last Dime video and it is a must watch for any guitar enthusiast. Truly shows how fun loving of a guy he really was and how knowledgeable he was about playing guitar. It is an excerpt from a guitar magazine where he is demonstrating how to do some of his trademark techniques and its worth watching for a variety of reasons. For guitar players he goes into detail on how to do and get the most out of those trademark squeals of his. Also has some nice solo work and playing, but the main feature is just bringing to life his personality and how good and fun loving of a guy he really was. He was a very funny dude that loved life as much as anyone. Really is sad he is no longer around.

Funny thing is about fifteen years ago or so I was replacing all of my vinyl I grew up on with Cds.Now I'm replacing all of my Cds from the late 80s and up with vinyl...:lol: The best I could find was going to be for around $250 each so theres just no way I wanted to do that. Haven't really tried to look around for them lately but I knew I would eventually be able to get them a lot cheaper some where else. With me and vinyl I impulse buy more than anything else, if I see a record I want I usually get it. I just love the rawness of Vinyl, its just pure the way the band made it to be. Digital enhancement and other things are way overrated IMO. I'd rather listen to vinyl anyday.
