I think the Reds game is on TV today at 4. What a brilliant move going up against opening day of NCAA tourney.

Stubbs has stuck out in more than half his at bats in spring training. He had 4 today.

Leake got rocked again today. He has give up 15 runs in 15 1/3 innings this spring. Starting to be concerned about those 2 a little.

Is anybody starting to get concerned about the Red's pitching staff with just 9 days to opening day? They don't seem to have very many innings yet and no one has really been stretched out yet. Leake is the top inning guy this spring with 15.1 inn and he has been rocked lately as HT said above. I know it's only spring but here are the numbers through yesterday for the Reds and the Phillies.

Leake 15.1 inn. 9.39 era

Arroyo 14.0 inn. 5.14 era

Wood 14.0 inn. 3.21 era

Cueto 9.0 inn. 6.00 era (on the shelf)

Bailey 8.2 inn. 5.19 era

Volquez 4.2 inn. 11.57 era

Blanton 22.0 inn. 4.09 era

Lee 19.0 inn. 4.74 era

Halladay 18.2 inn. 0.48 era

Hamels 17.1 inn. 6.23 era

Kendrick 13.0 inn. 4.15 era

Oswalt 10.2 inn. 3.38 era

It's more about pitch count rather than IP in spring training. Volquez, Bailey and Arroyo have all pitched in minor leagues games that I know of so those don't count for real innings, but they are being stretched out. Wood and Leake probably have to, but I'm not sure. As far as ERA goes, it's really hard to judge pitchers in Arizona based on ERA. the ball flys out there. Obviously Arroyo will be fine, Wood has done fine and the others are hard to judge.

If they exit a game early they usually go to the bullpen to get to their pitch count. I know Volquez did that the other day.

I wasn't aware that the ball carried that well in Arizona and if they are getting to face live batters then okay. I know they did have a couple of rainouts this spring also so I guess that affected the innings numbers.

I know they are getting other work but bullpen work is not like facing live imajor league hitters.

The ball does carry well out there. I've never hit a baseball there, but I've played golf there and was driving the ball an extra 20-40 yards consistently.

Looks like Willis may have played his way to Louisville after today's outing, 1/3 inn. 3 hits, 3 bbs and 5 earned runs. Could be Lecure's spot in the bullpen.

Pitchers getting rocked again today.

Reds down 9-6 in the 7th. Mesoraco with a 2 run Homer & Lewis with a 2 run double.

It's spring training, so I'm not too concerned about the pitching. But it would be nice if they were able to have a dominating spring.
